Thread: My hopes for this game are gone.

Just found out from a post that BH correspondent Tanks stated that the smuggler revamp is very far off. This is bad new for us since we are 4th in line to get revamped. I really dont feel like waiting another 2 years for this profession to get revamped. Why are we even waiting this long? When anything is wrong with jedi the devs fix it right away, are we not as important as jedi?

Owen....Calc....we must find out if anything is gonna be done for us. I sure would like to save 15 dollars a month if i could. No reaason to play a broken game. If they are not gonna fix this soon I must know so I can cancel my 6ths and only remaining account.

First, don't knock other professions, it is not appropriate to our trying to get help. The problem is the vast majority of other professions seem to always get attention over us, it isn't a specific profession that is the problem. The Devs have had a "wait and see" approach to us since the beginning of SWG, and as you can tell we are still "waiting and seeing". (Tears) I have been here months before SWG went live, and because of the "wait and see" approach to us, I have seen many, many great Rangers sadly go into the sunset, and on to other games where Rangers are treated with respect and equally with other professions and this includes other SOE games. This is the only MMO that has ranger types that seems to be continually ignored and devalued, but I love SW so I still hold out hopes that "SOON" the "wait and see" policy will come to and end and we will get good treatment and equal treatment with all professions, and that their very narrow view of Rangers will hopefully become broader in the near future. So hang in there, be as positive and encouraging to each other as we can and hopefully we will all be wonderfully surprised at the Devs attention toward us.

I think we need more stickies.

Maybe we should ask other correspondents what they do to get attention?

Because, they are doing it so well that we don't even get our traps fixed.

You are right about 'dont knock other professions' but I still feel the pain. A Master Ranger spends how many more skill points for their profession and what do we get for it?

Yes we have the Ranger lifestyle but sadly it only goes so far. If you decide you want to do more than wholesale the lastest meat spawn to the BEs your options get limited really fast. A profession that takes so many SP to Master should NOT be so limited.

We Rangers have 2, count'em 2 specials in all of the Ranger tree (/conceal and /rescue). Only one of them is really useful (Im a Rifleman, the last thing I want is /rescue and aggro, I have enough of that already). The most useful Trap is found in Novice Scout.

So really what are our plus'es? Harvesting large amounts of organics, making camo and the HTFB (only the harvesting part is of significant interest to other players, fact isnon-Rangers really dont care that much about camo or camps)

It took a LOT of arguing to even convince SOE that Rangers needed to be considered a 'Combat' class in order to have some parity on our CL (at first I was not sure we should be called a combat class but now,, if we got stuck at CL 54, we would be near useless, and no more big game hunting for us...and OMG could you imagine being CL 54 and trying to use /rescue..ugh..insta incap.)

It pains me to say it but what we have is simply NOT worth the SP and not worth it by a very large margin. Now if a revamp is not even 'soon', ugh..what a waste.

I respec'ed out of Ranger, pained me greatly to do so but its hard to see how we are going to get the fixing we need when larger issues such as Jedi and the GCW are so messed up (and the fact that so many other 'real' combat professions are broken as well (we may have gotten the combat class definition but I dont belive we are seen as a combat prof still by those in charge.)

Wow...time to face a harsh reality. How many people do you think bought this game thinking...I want to be a Ranger more than anything else? How many people think that Rangers are a SW Icon?

Now replace Ranger with Jedi and I think you will see your answer.

I know and agree that a lot of people bought the game to swing lightsabres. But when you make a game with 33 professions you can't ignore the rest in favor of the one. At this point the game should just be BH/Jedi/WS/AS/Chef thats the only professions that need to be here anymore.

They've made a lot of promises that havent been kept for all the other professions. A lot of people bought it to play Han Solo and others to play Chewbacca. But Smuggler still hasnt seen a revamp and the wookies have armor but an expansion pack about their race with no content for their race specifically.

Right Fodder..and I certainly didn't mean to imply that it was justified to ignore us. I was just pointing out that Rangers don't support the game.

How very true...but again the harsh reality is unless you are a Jedi, you are a bit player in the Star Wars saga.

Honestly, it seems our only recourse is the Star Wars pen and paper RPG.

Many of the other professions dokeep a "Top Five" list of bugs that they hope to get addressed. Somewhere in Texas each week there is an SOE:SWGdevelopment staff meeting for setting priorities. If we had a queue of "top" or even just "easy, pre-revamp" issues all ready for the the staff to pick from rather than having to research and develop the items themselves it might make it more likely that one of our issues will make it into the development hopper.

Good hunting and clear skies.

We've done that for 18 months it doesnt help. For anything to get pushed in the Scout/Ranger world it takes both the scout and ranger correspondents working togther. Which they do rather well.

Whether you realize it or not. You have one of the best correspondents representing this profession. Owen doesnt make promises he can't keep. He takes the fight to where it needs to go and pushes hard. Between our Ranger and Scout correspondents we have seen some of the really nasty issues get resolved through brute force.

Believe me it is not for lack of trying. Owen and Vorpaks (since they cant get Blue Glowie support anymore) are pushing to get things moved forward. But right now the devs focus is on other areas besides us. And honestly there isnt much, if anything, we can do to fix this.

Oh I know I will see "We could petition", "We'll do an ingame protest", "I'll quit". Thats fine and dandy but it doesnt work. I really wish we could see the game population and subscription numbers. Because im sure Im like a lot of people who still have there accounts but dont play active or at all. And are sitting here twiddling our thumbs waiting patiently while playing other games.

*Cough* Commandos, Smugglers, Squad Leaders.. Image designers, Musicians, Dancers.. all entertainers.. Droid engineers, anyone? The list goes on.. Rangers aren't alone, and never have been, in feeling a lack of substance and attention for their professions.

Who exactly are these professions/correspondents that are getting attention so well? (Apart from revamped combat professions, which was promised since shortly after the start of the game and only saw change 1 month ago).

I don't think it has anything to do with correspondents or how vocal the community is... We always read that Jedi/BH get changes because they whine and rant. That's complete nonsense.. Otherwise we'd see battlefields finally fixed!

Changes made have more to do with what the developers see as the priority, and what will have more of an affect to the overall game... not on which community/corr is the most vocal.

Corrs can only submit questions, bugs and issues and wait.. and wait.. for a response. Which is usually a "we definitely want to do this, but we don't have a timeframe" type answer. We've never had a ranger corr who didn't do this.. not to mention fight hard to be heard.. and I don't see how anything they could do would fix our problems any faster.

Bug fixes? We as a profession arent really seriously bugged at all(thus our low priority). Our biggest problem is most of what we can do, no one else cares about. We arent in demand save to supply meat to crafters..and for that kind of SP commitment, I want to be more than a glorified butcher.

Of course the Ranger issues are all in the design of the profession..its deeply flawed and redsigning things takes time and effort and is difficult and in the typical engineering sense, if its not currenly 'broken' or non-functional, its not high priority.

So yea, Rangers are 'functional'. just we are nowhere near what we should be given the SP usage.

SOE is obviously in firefighting mode..they only have resources for high priority, immediate game breaking issues for the near term. Sadly I dont see them doing major revamps post-CU whatsoever..SOE as a company got no ROI for doing the CU, all they got was a lot of account cancellations for all that time they spent 'revamping' combat. I cant see how they are eager or willing to do that again.

You prolly are right, what ever we get will be hotfixes perhaps at some point gettinga SP reduction but whatever it is, its not likley to be a overhaul. (we are gonna get what is easiest and cheapest for SOE to do)

In my opinion Squad Leaders are still worse off than we are usefulness-wise (still), BEs are more broken, and Doctors got hit harder by the Cu than we did. Defending jedi makes my stomach turn but consider the fact that the FRS is currently turned off and it is impossible for any new Jedi to advance to the rank of Knight until it is fixed. They might potentially see attention again before we do.

Some wise person once said that he thought a lot of our issues could be fixed by hot-fixes. I am still hoping for that. I would like to see all of our "little" issues ironed out before our revamp so they can concentrate all their attention on new stuff/new skills to add on.

But first we need the bug fixes.
