Thread: Macros to make Rangering More Effective
I have a trap macro that goes like this (of course I usually use this in groups)...after the traps are thrown, then I run in and beat the animal up.
in the sixth toolbar, I have 5 slots (F13-F16) with traps in them.
Then i have the trap throwing macro in another slot on my first toolbar.
heres the macro
/ui action toolbarPane05;
/ui action toolbarSlotXX;
/ui action toolbarSlotXX;
/ui action toolbarSlotXX;
/ui action toolbarSlotXX;
/ui action toolbarSlotXX;
/ui action toolbarPane00
the first line sends you to the second toolbar, then the slots throw the traps, and the last line returns you back to your defaule pane.
I usually use
1) stink bomb
2) glow wire
3) phenacine dart
4) sharp bone spur
5) adhesive mesh
(one note, make sure your adhesive mesh is refilled often, since you only get 2 of those per crafting session)
On the /ui action toolbarSlotXX command..
Do you just put the number, or include the F? Also, for single digit numbers, do you put it as 01, 02, etc. or will putting it simply 1, 2 etc. work?
Thanks.
Let me elaborate, macros suck.
Go ahead, use this, and realize half way through it you need to heal... SOL there bud, as traps trump heals. As you lay incapped by a baby gubber, you may atone for your sins.
Not even I am so lazy as to macro traps. I make a bunch, toss em, kill and harvest. I have had trapping maxed forever, like before I made Master even.
Instead of spectating, participate. Or do your widdle fingies get tired??

the more complicated you make it, the easier you are to kill
/snicker.

Here's a couple I use:
/harvest meat;/loot all;
and
/dismount;/maskscent;/mount;
BTW, the trapping macro is the best for when I was grinding through trapping, but that's just me elaborating.
But are those considered macros or just hot buttons? Are all macros hot buttons, or are hot buttons macros?
I said that I only use this in groups. (check the original post) Because, as a Ranger, im primarily combat support, my first duty as a ranger is to weaken the beast for the group, then go in and attack.
I wouldnt use this solo (that's just dumb), and when I do solo I use a much more judicious tactic when throwing traps.
and JBMat, if no offense was meant, then none was taken.
I know that there are some good macros out there that save space, time and allow me to concentrate on the situation at hand rather than finding the shift key.
No offense personally, just 90% of macros are dumb.
Hotkeys aside, I use a few macros - /harvest meat /harvest hide
ok, two.
I can see setting up short simple macros. Your trap macro is huge. What happens if and when you need to shoot or rescue or heal someone... you are out of luck. It has been shown that you can't do squat until the trap queue (for the lack of a better term) is cleared, and you can only clear it by throwing all traps. The left arm theory I mumbled about in a previous post.
Your macro effectively takes you out of the action, unable to help in any other way. That is the main reason I do not like macros. They start you doing something and by the time you realize you need to do something else, and stop the macro, you are dead or your buddies are - either result is a non starter.
I just throw the traps one by one using shift f(whatever), heal when I can- another shift f key, and shoot if I want or have to, other F keys.
IMHO macros get you into trouble and offer no easy way out.
