Thread: Tracking: why not?!
This was brought up in beta a couple of times, and was shot down or ignored by others more interesting in whining obout how thier vibro knuckles were nerfed. But I still think we should have a tracking command, whya profession trained in the art of the wild doesn't have a way to find a specific creature or at the very least know what is in his/her general area is baffling.
It would be very easy for the devs to give us something like a /find command that popped up the types of creatures found on the planet, and upon selecting a type, telling us where the closest on is located with a waypoint.
1.) implemented exactly like missions, it would generate a new lair when we tracked. It could be percetage bases with skill mods for higher lvl rangers.
2.) or it could work like a survey in someway, where if there is nothing in our general area, we wouldn't find the tracks, or it would start to lead us on a waypoint trail that may take us a very long time to finish, without us knowing.
either way, it is a travisty that this skill isn't in this game.
I really like your ideas on it's implementation. It's more in line with other aspects of SWG (*BH waypoints) than the other EQ-esque versions I've seen. Bravo. Cheers ![]()
Great post. I am not quite to Ranger yet, as I have two boxes to Master Scout. I did feel that something like this should have been in the scout profession as well, scaled down obviously as Rangers would much much better than just a Scout.
Kudo's on a well articulated and intelligent post. ![]()

A great post!
I specially like the survey like idea. It would be useful when you're in the middle of nowhere on Tatooine and you're looking for some banthas to kill.
May I suggest our correspondent talk about this to the devs...
I completely agree that it should be added. It should confer the ability to Rangers to find certain types of mobs. I'd add it to the Trapping or Frontiering line at level2 with each level improving its radius. At level 2, you can track mobs 1024 meters away, level3 -2048 meters away, level4 4096 meters away (off the radar). With it should come a drop down menu so you can actually limit your search - avian, insect, herbivore, carnivore. You'd get that kind of breakdown at level 2. At level 4 maybe it allows you to limit further - carnivore followed by Plains Hunter, Plains Tusk Cat etc.
Something along those lines anyway.

The reasonI don't think this should be a scout ability is because it is a very, very useful command, and as we know basically everyone has some scout abilities. If this was in that tree, even a bit, it would water down our profession even more. This would be a nice thing that would make the Ranger tree worth looking at, and it would put us in a nice niche when it comes to groups. ![]()
This is a great idea. I posted an idea for Tracking, to work almost exactly as you did, on the Scout forum. We have discussed this several times, with many good ideas on how to do it in the Scout boards.
The Scout corespondant has put it in the first list of things to discuss with the Devs, to add for the profession. So many others in Scout/Ranger feel the same way. It would make us more useful to groups, who want to hunt a specific type of animal. Thus grouping, an socialization, something the Devs want us to do.
