As a master Ranger we spend 135 skill points.

Master BH spend 121

Master Rifleman spend 106

ETC.

What is the justification in this?

If you are a player and actually know the answer please reply. If you don't and just want to flame the devs for this obvious oversite please make your own thread. Thanks.

The reason is that there is no logical way to disconnect scout from ranger. Most of our mods (camping, trapping, harvesting, etc.) are based on scout skills that we simply do better. How do you take away pre-reqs but still give us our skills? you can't. Being able to camp in a HTFB means you need the camping mod from both scout and Ranger. To use the Ranger traps you need the trapping modifier from Scout and Ranger.

basically, they can't remove pre-reqs without nerfing Ranger or completely re-thinking Scout.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

How many skill points does it take to master ID? Get where I am going with this? Keep the mods and skills as they are but reduce the sp requirements for rangers... by how much is up to the devs...

The skillpoints of ID were reduced for two reasons:

it had no effect on combat, as they weren't a combat profession

to allow entertainers to tripple master.

Now changing Ranger wouldn't even be considered because it IS a combat profession, and reducing it's SP cost would open up a lot more possitibilities. Just think about it like this: do you REALLY want to be the only profession which can be compared to Image Designer? Is that the kind of Dev Attention you want? Not me. Make Ranger worth the investment, and the game will be better. Reducing the SP cost and giving us a half-arse revamp won't really help us in the long run.

also, technically you CANNOT remove any of the scout lines as the Ranger skill trees are all built upon skills learned as a scout.

Exploration: Begins Terrain Negotiation as Mask Scent (which rangers get improvements to as they level up Ranger)
Trapping: Begins learning trap schemes and get trapping skill mods (which rangers get improved trapping skill mod and learn to make new traps
Survival: Begins with learning basic camp schemes (which rangers get better camp schemes)
Hunting: Creature Knowledge and Harvesting (which rangers build upon with their ranger skills)

Technically, what needs to be done is to NOT drop the skill point cost of Ranger. what needs to be done is to justify the skill point expenses of Ranger by fixing broken things, and giving Rangers defense mods, and possibly new items and abilities.

I remember when Bounty Hunter cost the most skill points of all professions. I was an MBH back when i had to have Master Scout AND Master Marksman to qualify for BH.

I respect that zeal. However I have been a master ranger 3 times over the last 2 years on 2 different servers. I respect zeal but I don't want to see us be ignored any longer.

I agree with all of your points of view, but if Ranger is in fact a combat profession then we need some changes to put us up to par with all the others like combat skills, traps that dont take 5 seconds to throw and so on...

I was one of those kids that was raised in the middle of the mountains in upper state NY. I then went on to be a bio major in school. When I was a kid and I played D+D my favorite class was the Ranger. Something needs to be done to compensate us for the ammount of skillpoints we spend. I hope they start paying some attention to us.

Along the tines of Phenix's response, but worded a little differently...

Do you want to be as useful as an ID (no offense ID's...)?

Be careful what you wish for. A request for fewer skill points is similar to a request for fewer skills, in my book. I can see it now...we get a skill point reduction, ask for more and better traps, and the response we get is, "We can't becuase it would make you over powered vs. your skill point cost," or some variation of that.

What does the Creature To-Hit bonus do again?

Perhaps we can get a boost in something that will enhance our creature killing skills, but not add any PvP value to avoid upsetting other professions?
