Thread: We need a hunting rifle unique to Rangers
I'm sure this has been discussed but I believe the Ranger is meant to be a Hunter and capable of hunting most if not all reds solo. This being said, a nice improvement in the class would be the development of a slow VERY HIGH damage rifle unique to the Ranger. Kind of like the Wookie Bowcaster. We need to have something that puts a whooping on bigger reds.
Make it a BIG old gun......max damage 1000 -1500 unsliced with a rough speed of 8-9.
Just a thought.....
I'd like to think of the abilities in the Ranger line as suppliments to the weaponry we gain in the combat line of our choice.
So, I'd respectfully have to disagre with you on this recommendation.
Hmmm, I like the idea of some kind of hunting weapon or ability for the master ranger. Personally, instead a a weapon, what if they just gave us the same /concealshot that's in the rifleman line? It totally goes along with the hunter, rangers, hiding in the bushes to pick off animals. I know a ranger friend that has that as a rifleman. He said it's really great, and is sooo immersive for being a ranger. It actually gives him the ability to take red con animals solo. But only one at a time, if they are social he gets in big trouble. With using mask scent it helps keeps the agros from ganing up on him.
The hunting rifle idea is not, bad, but it would cause a lot of grief from other proffessions. At least this would be something already in the game, goes hand in hand with the Ranger hunter, and isn't completely a combat related ability. Just give /concealshot to Master ranger.
Bad idea. Bad, bad idea.
/tells the bad idea to go to its room.
1) Ranger is not a combat profession, it's a supporting or enhancing profession. By design you should take Ranger and *insert another profession here*. Giving the ranger ANY kind of special weapon is moving it into the realm of the combat professions, something we do not want to do.
2) It is the designers' goal that NO character be able to solo a red. I know, I know, some professions have or have had that ability now or in the past. But its not by design and it will be fixed.
So thanks for the post but I must disagree with you on this one.
I would have to disagree with Ranger only rifles as much as I'd disagree with Entertainer only pistols.
Like it or not, Ranger is a supporting profession. It is meant to be paired up with other professions (combat or otherwise) to add support.
The only reason professions like Bounty Hunter, Smuggler, and Commando have class specific weapons is becuase those professions are based off of a basic combat profession.
Rangers are not. We are only based off of another supporting profession, Scout.
We have Ranger only weapons. They are called traps, and we are lucky that we can make those ourselves. Bounty Hunters and Commandos have to go to a Weaponsmith to get thier Light Lightning Cannons and Rocket Pistols and Grenades
That meaning I'm dreaming when I solo greater desert womp rats and mountain worrts on Tatooine? As they are considered instant death for me? And I'll just like to add, that I have no medics skills or pet when I do that... all I have is my traps and my good laser riffle... nothing else than that... Come on Tsion, get back to reality will you? ![]()
I don't think there should be an unique weapon for rangers, for the same reason Tsion said (about rangers not being a combat profession, but a supplement for the combat profession)...
- As others have noted above, we are a support profession.
- So in following that logic, we have skills that improve our combat abilities, but no skills that would help us if we didn't have a combat profession at all (I'm counting CH as a combat profession). ![]()
- Creature-to-Hit bonus improves our ranged weapon skill (in whatever weapon you choose)
- At Master, we have a Ranged and Melee defense bonus.
- Traps that debuff melee and ranged defense, root creatures, blind/stun them
- However, in my opinion... A hunting rifle should be a regular rifle with a Creature-to-Hit bonus enhancement or something like that.
- The rifle would still be created by smiths, but it would be more of a speciality item available to everyone.
Thinking about it I agree......many of us are not rifleman. It just seems we should have a distinct advantage hunting PvE. Not sure then how to do that. Hunting with my scout buddies and commando's etc....Ranger supports nicely but in the end a Ranger out there alone doesn't appear to have much if any advantage.
Sooooooo. Spontaneous idea but bad implementation (rifle). You guys who are Master Rangers should rock most fighting animals. Whatever method does that I'm for then.
ps. thanks for not flaming me guys....if I had made this post in many other boards I'd have been toast.
I disagree. I will give the same arguments as Tsion do.
I am currently Master Ranger / Master Rifleman / Marksmann 4/0/0/4
And I currently do 1500 average dmg every 2 secondes, without taking the Ranger Hit Bonus into account (I sometimes firing close to 4K dmg with the to hit bonus).
So If you want to have a good Ranger Rifle... go to Rifleman Mastering.
My primary profession is Ranger and I like it. My second one is rifle due to the fact I need an efficient combat skill to hunt.
Using both rifle and traps, I can easily kill 50+ CL animals.
So, the only thing I want to be add to ranger :
- a really efficient tracking skill (will comming soon ...)
- a Conceal skill wich conceal (will comming soon ...)
-new traps (will comming soon ...)
- some new usefull camp (will comming soon ...)
- a way to make foraging having a role (you can currently buy stacked food for pet and strong buff fromchef and smuggler). Maybe can forage item help to heal wounds instead of buffing HAM for 10 secondes (I always laugh when I eat the more powerfull forage item, wich give me +500 mind for 60 secondes, but sitting and waiting until my mind is totally full, the buff has disapear)

Maybe not a weapon but what about this idea, a skill called Ambush that would allow the Ranger to conceal his party in a PvE or PvP environment and give a attacking bonus for this first shot. Just an Idea probably dumb but...
No idea is dumb. Some may be bad, some may be good, but none are dumb. Dumb is expounding on a bad idea or throwing a good idea away.
As to your Ambush idea, i think you'll be pleasantly surprised in the near future with the new "Hunting Blind" camp that rangers will be getting. I think it will acheive some if not all of what you are describing here.
