Thread: /areatrack only 500m?

I'm reading that area track is only 500m.

Is this true??

If that's true, I really wish that we could have a bump up to around 700m to 1024m.

It's true and your suggestion is already in significant posts to the devs. See the "State of the Profession" thread.

"I'm reading that area track is only 500m."

That is correct as Fred_Skinner pointed out.

Though, increasing the range may not really help in most cases however, as creature spawns don't appear much farther away from the player.

It might be useful in tracking Players though... Hmm...

Thanks JRaas...

I'm thinkingthis suggestion with be in Tracking 4would be fun for tracking friends and enemies.

Since I've been reading some of the old posts, basically, the ranger is standing in the middle of the circle.

If the ranger were tohold out a "string"from the ranger, they have a 500mrange... so, they're standing in the "middle" of a 1k diameter circle.

To me, area track should be around 900m... so the ranger is standing in the middle of a 1800 m diameter circle.

JRaas can you consider suggesting this to the developers?

JRaas?

As Fred_Skinner pointed out... A request to increase the radius of /areatrack is already on our issues list.

After the newest patch is rolled out, we will be re-evaluating our focus issues (as /conceal may be dropping in priority ).

At that time, we can debate whether changes to /areatrack are worthwhile of the Top 5.

It's actually 1000m, you stand in the middle of a 500m circle, you cover most of a grid square. Which if you think about it, is pretty darn good, as I am master and get range and distance.

How about making it so that we can set waypoints to where the creature is much like artisan surveying work.

I agree this would be a nice feature to add.

You're thinking of the /track that's under development. (Track let you track specific creature even if it haven't spawn yet whereas /areatrack only list existing creatures).

Don't know if dev will let us track npc and player. It would be nice if they did.

500m is fine since that's the range of the /who command. Don't want us to be too powerful else the nerf crowd will start gathering.

1) /who command is not 500m. I think it has something to do with the city/outpost, not actual range. Maybe by the clone command (my guess) or by zoning in via ship. For example, I was clonedup on Smugglers on endor, and then headed to Research, and Ireceived a tell from a ranger in Smugglers looking for ranger training.

2) I am able to track players and NPC now.

3) /areatrack does not list all existing creatures within a 500m radius. It tracks all creatures that have been triggered to spawn within 500m. And a lot of spawns appear to be triggered by players travelling through that server/zone. If there is no travel by a player through an area for x amount of time, there will be no mobs to a very few mobs on track.

Go to planets that are not travelled frequently and track. Dath and Talus are two examples for me when I travel outside the normal hunting areas where I would get from nothing to maybe a handful mobs, and 150m to 250m later I am covered 360 degrees with red mobs from at least 3 different families, spamming /peace and hope burstrun is faster then the mob or that I am not triggering more spawns right along the path I am trying to escape

Only 500m??? Do you guys have any clue how far that really is? I am an avid hunter (irl) and would love to be able to determine exactly what game was within over a quarter-mile of my position in any direction. As it is, I squat down and take a good hard look at the ground every 30-40m or so, so consider yourselves lucky that we only have to do it once per grid square in game. And, oh yeah, get outside once in a while.

Ok, hurray for another real life comparison

Ever wonder whythe planets in SWG all flat and squarish, where we knowIN REAL LIFEthat all planets are round, and you can go around the world [earth] in 80days [or less]?

Ever wonder why our physicalanatomy is made up of 9 stats in SWG, where we knowIN REAL LIFE how complex ouranatomy is?

Hey, hunter, kill an animal in real life and see it respawn a few minutes later?
