So as I was posting on the Top 5 List, the idea hit me that maybe, just maybe we could have a meditate type of skill. Imagine this.
You sit alone in the wilds of the Naboo forests. Your mind sharp. Your senses alert. Nothing moves without you seeing it. You are calm. At peace. One with nature. Your time in the wilds have hardened you into a hunter with no equal. In the wilderness is where you shine. You have learned to protect yourself against numerous poisons and diseases. From the many experiences you have had, you are better able to prepare and defend yourself against creatures that poison, disease, stun and affect your body in ways that the normal man could not defend against. You prepare your mind and defenses against the creature you are about to face. You know its strengths and weaknesses. You have been subjected to its poisons before and your body has developed an increased tolerance of it. No longer are you defenseless against this attack. You have tasted its poisons and now better understand how to defend against it. Your preparation for the oncoming battle is close and you are fully prepared to taste the poison of the beast yet again, but this time your tolerance of that poison will not hinder you. This time, you are prepared. The beast closes in and you spring to action. You feel its poisoned pincers coming ever closer to you and fear the time spent in preparation will be all for nothing. The battle ensues and you are able to defend against its many attacks, but finally you fall victim to one of its poisonous strikes. You are happy to see your preparation paid off and the effects of the poison have been lessened to a great degree. No longer do you fear the poison strike of the Gaping spider hunter. You have overcome its poison and now stand the victor in your struggle.
So, anyway, that is a storied description of the idea, but here it is plain and straight forward.
I am thinking perhaps we can prepare for a certain creature or NPC by knowing its strengths and weaknesses. Its attacks do a stun damage, so we are able to buff our natural defense vs. stun prior to the battle.
We can only buff one or possibly two states at any given time and the buffs would last for a period of time longer than that of a food buff, but less that that of a doctor buff. Maybe an hour tops.
There may be some state attacks that we should not be able to defend against.
I believe this may be something that would give us a much needed edge in PvP and not make us an uber profession, since these buffs only work in the wilds. Or maybe perhaps they CAN work ina city, but the effects are greatly diminished.
I think one of the things that gave me the idea for this was the Dread Pirate Roberts in The Princess Bride. In the scene where he slipped the Iocaine Powder into the goblet of wine. He drank from it too and tasted the poison, but he had developed an immunity to it from slow exposure to it over time. This is what I think we can get. An increased defense or immunity to certain state attacks such as poison disease, stun, dizzy, etc etc. Just in the form of a temporary buff.
So, anyway, what do you guys think?

I started out by saying no way! Then as I continued reading, I was intrigued, but I still need to be convinced. I think we should just persue the mods and not ask for a form of meditation (which is a fairly controversial skill from what I hear). You may sawy me yet, though

Hehe, this idea looks like bringin in some casts of D&D's Druids and Clerics to SWG. I would be nice (nicier if you can buff other players), but doesit fit in SWG? I don't know. Even more...
...The rol of a Ranger asit's currently drawn is:
1.-To harvest organic resources, and
2.-To help people in wilderness in the following manners:
2.1.- helping in battle throwing tramps (if you are rifle you cant use them, as they are limited to 50 m).
2.2.-providing camps for healingwounds (useless as there are thousands of cities with Hospitalsall over the galaxy).
2.3.-camouflageplayers (breaks quite often).
2.4.- tracking preys (the only 100% ranger skill).
Ranger helps to hunt rather than hunt himself. That's why I think you shuold be able to apply such a buff to other players. BUT WHAT ABOUT CHEFFS AND BE? Are they going to be unemployements? Theycook andmake tapes against stuns and other disseases. No, I think that thewe should claim fora good implementation of Camo (or another brand new idea not yet implemented in the game) instead asking for a new one. Camo is our unique "buff".

While it would be a nice bonus, I think we are more likely to just get standard defense boosts. It's easier to add that way with a similar effect. And other players can't really say we are getting a new skill or anything. I like the idea but I think I'm with Calc on this one.

I would not want to mimic what the TKA can do, some of us have chosen to be masters of unarmed combat, would they be able to "double buff?"
I think that a ranger meditation would be much more applicable in the form of a disease/ poison resist for a short time (5min) plusses to dodge creatures and other defensive features.
And for clarification, I dont think i would call it meditation, but "wilderness preparation" or "survival instinct" something like that
good idea, lets keep this one batted around a bit

As both a TKM and Ex-master Ranger, this could get messy. However it SEEMS you're suggesting an ability for Rangers to give themselves a boost to poison/disease *resistances* rather than the ability to stop poisons and diseases like TKA can. If that's the case then I fully support it.

right, thats exactly what my intentions are
a meditation ability to cure, lessen or take care of poison or disease after the fact should remain in the purvey of the tka.
the ranger, being able to see what the creature will try to do to him or her, should be able to prevent being diseased, poisoned etc.
thats the difference in my head

As a TKA myself, the meditation skill is unique to TKA and agree it should stay there. The 'survival instinct,' on the other hand, sounds more rangerlike. As a master of the outdoors, a ranger should be able to defend against creature state attacks. A 'def. vs poison' should be an ability of rangers only. Of course, that would spur on the "NERF RANGER" posts from combat medics if it were to be implemented in PVP. So, limit it to creature attacks.

See, where are you guys when I am coming up with names for these ideas? Meditate was a bad choice of words. Survival Instinct (thanks Draknev) is much better.
And yes, the intent was that it doesn't get rid of poisons or disease, but gives you a higher resist/immunity to them. If you fail to use your survival instinct and prepare against a creature that uses a disease attack on you, then you suffer the consequences.
As far as Combat Medics potentially whining about it. Let them. The way I see it, everything needs a balance. Right now there isn't much that can balance out the overpowered disease and poison attacks thata combat medic can use. Combat medic needs someone to watch out for who isn't as vulnerable to their attacks. A TKA can meditate away a poison or disease, but not in the thick of battle. A Ranger should be able to defend against CM disease and poison just the same as from creatures in my humble opinion.
Is the intent of this idea clear now? I know I sometimes am unable to make clear the intent, but with help, it always seems to be clarified in time. Let's hear some more input. I'm happy to see people taking a shine to this so far. Keep in mind, this idea came to me last night and I have had very little time to organize a cohesive document regarding it. I wanted to get the communities feedback first and see what you all thought.
