Remember that any Ranger qualifies to pick up CH. A change like this means that we get something for nothing. And a Master Ranger/Master CH would be able to control a CL 75-79 pet. Yes we know more about creatures. But handling creatures is the domain of the CH. Just like we don't want to give them any additional harvesting, they shouldn't need to give us extra pet power. Our creature knowledge seems to be more about killing the creature. The CHs focus on controlling it. Although it would be nice.

Gotta disagree for the simple reason that there's already a class that does this, using skill points of their own. They don't get a boost to harvesting for free, afterall.
I harvest them, I don't keep them as pets.
Why should my harvesting knowledge of a creature allow me to tame them any better than the next guy? Sure, I know what meat/hide they drop, how mean they are, their attacks --- but none of that allows me to tame any better than Joe Artisan.
Can't see how our skills translate into taming.

Im with nemo and JB on this.
Its clearly the CH domain to control higher level pets and its their primary process.
You wouldnt expect CH to get harvesting bonuses based on the fact they are around creatures alot, as you wouldnt expect us to be able to 'handle' creatures based on the fact we know a hell of alot about them.
Implementing this would cause a backstep in the development of their profession which im against. It would weaken thier skillset by diluting its uniqueness etc.
An alternative idea would be the hunting dog/beast.
ill post a threat on this in a few minutes
My point is that although we do sharevery similar startpointsthats all they are....... startpoints. We share some basic skills then have choosen to specialise in one area. Hunting vs Creature Handling. If any mix and matching is to be done in both professions it should be within the scouting tiers we both share as pre-requisits.
As i see it, scouting sets you up with basic skills, then you choose which area you want to specialise in. You have to make that choice and personally it is VERY IMPORTANT to me that we make ourselves unique as we can in the ultimate hunter frame set the devs have locked onto.
It is ok having two professions with similar backgrounds and skills however they should only be linked by the requisits they share, not the skill they have learnt after.
If we get creature handling bonuses what we would we give the CHers? And with the argument that we share Scout roots, what would we have to give the BH? The circle of life startes getting vicious pretty quickly, as we would all end up with basically the same skills.

Ok...I see where you guys are coming from with the CH having to spend skill points, however, I don't thinkit will bring our profession back as been indicated. Follow me in this, CH and Ranger branch from the Scouting profession, hence it should be ok to mix a little of CH and Ranger. Like I said I don't want to have a high level pet, I just think that we should be able to have something a little better than what an artisan has.
One other thing, if you truly believe that we don't deserve it because we didn't earn it somehow then we should immediately relinquish the Ranged and Melee defense we get at master. That we have no business having, we are neither brawlers nor marksmen, but we are attuned more to our environment, which includes animals. Of course qui pro quo if the CHs want to get a bonus to harvest by all means go for it, they should get something along the lines of +5/+10 in return.

I don't think you should get CH ability for free (no skill pointsinvested in CH) BUT it would be nice to get some kind of bonus for being a CH AND Ranger.
HOWEVER, if that hair-brained idea about their version of the Bio-farm goes through, you bet I want something for it and I think this would do nicely. Think of it as a threat: If they get that then we get this. Of course, it probably won't happen sense we are still not compensated for making camps silly and useless.

My opinions on the creature affinity bonus to rangers tend to go against adding a few points in creature level.
Firstly, like JB said, we know how to kill them, not domesticate them.
I dont want to take a skill that is primarily theirs
Remember the uproar that happened when combat medics got terrain negotiation? most of us were pretty annoyed.
True...we do know about the creatures, thats why the CH asks us what their special attacks are.
Lastly, with the creatures innate ability to focus on the ranger and chew on them first, it would seem that the creatures would less likely want to be domesticated by us.
+10 is fine with me, that allows me to ride my mount around.
In a Perfect World, instead of just a CL cap on layman pets, SWG would have required certifications for any pet capable of combat duty. Rangers and BH's would have gotten certs for CL 10 "hunting" critters, Commandos and Squad Leaders for more aggressive "guard" critters, etc.
That didn't happen and it's too late to go back and do it now.
The current system allows a CL 10 pet (and BE's can still crank out CL 10 pets that way outperform wild CL 10's) and a CL 10 combat droid. That's plenty of secondary firepower.
