Thread: Ranger GCW Idea (facilitates Squad Leader Idea)

What about Just Combining Squad Leader and Ranger together! I Know this is kinda strange but then we could havea job in the GCW. That way we could be like good with a group. As I think more peolpe would want to be Rangers this way. And I dont know about other servers but I have only seen nad heared of one Squad Leader. Also all those camps that people have made idea for the revamp, for the Squad leaders camp we could just have those.
Once again it is just an idea, i am not saying we should be squad leaders but I just think it would be thing for us rangers to do with our group.
no thanks. this has been brought up before and it's really not practical.
I'll explain with simple math.
2 fully functioning professions > 1 mishmash profession.
On a similar note, I am developing Ranger and Squad Leader simultaneously. It allows me to do better what I already enjoy: group hunts and helping new players. New players especially appreciate the combat benefits associated with grouping with a Squad Leader. I find the pairing of the two elite professions to be a great match.

If they order a troop group or their "ranger" icon to scout a base (which is going to be on the map already as the devs said) then it would create a waypoint for you automatically. It did not occur to me that this would ruin the game for people. I personally wanted us to have more of a scout role in the GCW since I thought that was kinda what a ranger's stregths would call for. So what profession should we have do the scouting and recon? Dancer? If rangers dont wanna do it I guess we would need to get a dancer or someome. Hope they dont get attacked by kreetles.Seriously if you get PVP fixed so that someone can actually craft leotards for an hour and then go fight enemy players for another hour on the same toon and feel like you had some affect on the GCW and it is fun, then Lucas would never have to worry about this game dying. People who make other MMOG's might not like that too much though.
OK, so the extra icons, do they represent NPC's or actual Rangers? Am I going to end up getting spammed by /tells, or worse the blasted symsg, going "Alliance Ranger! Move to Point Zulu and Scout for Enemy Activity" "Alliance Ranger! Move To Point X-Ray and Scout for Enemy Activity" "Allia.." yah, you get the idea.
I have a 'scout' role in the GCW, have had it overt, covert and non-factioned. (Actually, non-factioned was best as I wasn't targetable) "Ken', n1p up to ***** and see whose about", I get to within 500m of the ville, pop an areatrack, check for the names of players I know the group are interested in, report back. Get on with a bit of casual hunting. Pop /ar every so often to see what's new, track 'animals' to see if they've got their pets out yet...
Also, getting PvP fixed so somebody who wants to craft can also PvP makes little or no sense. You'd have to give them a shedload of SP's, to actually get a combat skill that's worth putting up against others, which of course means giving everyone the additional SP's and then the PvP'ers would just increase their combat skills and keep the imbalance.
That and the fact that many, most, if not all non-combat toons are actually non-combat because, shock horror, they don't WANT to fight.
I'm a Ranger / Rifleman. I class myself as non-combat because I don't PvP. As far as I'm concerned NPC's are just another form of prey, a little more stupid, but with pockets. I occaisionally get caught out when am overt/tef'd and I don't bother fighting back.
I'll die, clone and go back to work. If I want to fight other players I log into Battleground/front/pants.
I am interested in RTS, but I do not see that happening on SWG. As was stated earlier, this is a roleplaying game. Even the JTL add-on was a stretch, but it got me a Y-wing, so I'll be quiet about it.
I have fought in very organized military PVP group and I have founght in very disorganized PVP groups where nobody listented to anyone and ran around doing whatever they wanted. In my experience the organized PVP groups were much more fun and were much more successful overall. I was in one of the most feared guilds on Bria.
The difference between the organized PVP group is that they had spies in the enemy's group. They know the numbers, they knew the templates and they prepared the appropriate counter force to take them down at exactly the right moment. We very rarely ever lost a battle because we thought before we went in, we listened to the commanders and the success was wroth the discipline.
We would be ordered to move to various waypoints and we often did not "see" the enemy were going into attack until we were actually given the attack order. The information needed to win the battle had been acertained before the battle ever started, resulting almost always in guaranteed victor. The real military works this way.
Just because this is an MMO does not mean that we should run around aimlessly and unorganized like chickens with our head cut off. Because we are in an MMO does not mean we should not be able to know our enemy and create the appropriate counter to them. Whether you are playing an MMO, a FPS, a RTS, or actually in a real military in the real world, Intel, recon and organization is 90% of winning or loosing.
Someone who runs around aimlessly with no organization in not gonn be as effective as a group who knows where their enemy is located, what their troop counts are, what their health, strengths and templates are, and creates the proper counter force.
Keep in mind that I never suggested that we be merged with squad leader and I never intended that. The only reason I brought up the squad leader part was because I was suggesting that our tracking data be fed to the squad leader so they could take it into consideration for strategy.
I dont see why adding a few icons and commands to the existin in game mini map for squad leaders, along with automatically creating waypoints for your group would require an entire expansion.

Back in the beginning I was a weaponsmith/rifleman. I was one of the better PVPers also. It was great to be able to run my rifle business and then go out and PVP with my friends. Why is wanting to be able PVP effectively without haveing a 100% pure combat profession make little or no sense? Are you saying that it makes no sense for a master ranger to be able to PVP? We have scout and ranger neither of which are combat professions? Anyway that has nothing to do with this post anyway, that is just my signature. I think that many people dont PVP anymore because now a days you have to be 100% combat template in most cases in order to be affective at PVP. If you could have one Master Combat template and pick up and use the rest of your skills for other stuff and still be effective in PVP you would have allot more people enjoying a wider spectrum of the game. Because you dont like PVP does not mean that is should be relegated to pure combat templates only.

Lets say a ranger just did a recon on the base. The ranger communicates the recon info to the squad leader. The Squad leader then see's a RECON icon on their minimap. He/She double clicks the icon and this information is spit out in their text windown or on a special tab.
