Ranger Archive

Given the new chat room changes listed here, it sounds like it should be possible to have a single RIN channel for all galaxies. I have not yet had a chance to test this but, with the thinning Ranger population, I think it would be nice to have one place where we could all chat without needing to be on the same server. I therefore suggest the following:

1. Every server keeps their original RIN for server specific chat (like forming hunting parties or informing people of new resource shifts).
2. Create a global RIN (grin) where we can chat with Rangers from other servers.

The following chat syntax should let us all join the same chatroom:
/chatroom join Eclipse.grin

I am putting Eclipse as it is my home server and I needed to pick one for everyone to use (hopefully it's not already taken). This should then work as a normal chatroom galaxy wide.

Also, if necessary, you should be able to make an alias to access this chatroom with chat. For example, if it requires you to type /Eclipse.grin every time you should be able to alias this as:
/alias Eclipse.grin /egrin
although it's been a while since I made any of them.

Let me know if there are any problems with this (especially since I probably won't get to try it myself for a bit).

Try /join. The actual webpage listed it as /join but I thought they probably had made a mistake. Let me know if it works and I'll update the first post.

Another option is to make sure that the chat channel already exists. It might be necessary to have the channel already existing on a server before you could join it. It would sort of suck but we might be able to find a way around it if we can get it to work at all. Hopefully I'll be able to play with it soon.

I did try /join but unfortunately ... surprise ... it doesn't work as described. lol Thanks for the tip, I'll try again later.

I think it might have something to do with the nested chatroom thing.

wow - this is the best idea since sliced bofa treats! I have an alt account and I poked around on the eclipse server trying to locate the grin chat channel (to see if I had the exact path), but couldn't find it. I'll be more than glad though to keep trying tomorrow when I'm on. One of the best parts about testing the CU was meeting a lot of you guys (albeit briefly between crashes) on the test server, so this channel would be excellent if we could make it work!

What about "g-rin"

The command is /chatroom join {name of chatroom includiing server prefixes etc}



Keep it as RIN, think of is as universal ranger branding.

If that'd cause a clash, RING (RIN galaxies)

From what I've seen on TC tho, it seems easier for EQ players to join our chat channels than vice versa.



If you're still having problems, it MIGHT be easier to use the 'join channel' option on the chat tab, tehn scroll up in the directory to the galaxy level and try manually creating a channel there.

I'll give it a shot later and let you know IF it works, lol.

Well, I tried for a bit but I couldn't get it to work from another server. If anyone figures it out, let us know.

BTW, /join (the command listed on the website) happens to be the join group command. So it almost makes me think that the system wasn't really designed for the sake of SWG.....

Okay, it seems the 'top level domain' is YOUR galaxy and that you can't create a room in another galaxy or 'above' yours, ie, fo rme it's Bria, so I can get Bria galaxy chat but can't create a room on, say, Infinity.

If we agree to keep the chatroom called RIN and just create one 'locally' it SHOULD be possible to bridge across to an existing room. Problem I was having is that, from your home glaxay you can't 'browse' another galaxies chatroom list.

Could I ask, therefore, that we list the RIN (or RIN equivalent) rooms in this thread and then maybe try linking across to them?


I'm tempted to say NOT ot create one in the GALAXY directory as it's mentioned in the create room tabs there that you can't create a room, even though you clearly can, but also because a numer of folk already have existing chatrooms in the CHAT tab (created simply by using /chatr join RIN which by default adds to you an existing public chat channel called RIN OR creates one if there isn't one locally)




(Gawds, this is like reinventing the internet, lol. Should be publish a protocol?)



I'm going to ask TSR later if it IS possible to create a proper trans-galactic chat channel, but not holding my breath
