is there anyone out there that plays solo and DOESNT use a droid or pet? i tried it, and its really not as fun killing medium lvl creatures alone as it is using a pet or droid and being able to take down rancors or huf duns or whatever else is too big to solo.

i used a probot (until i released it by accident while trying to tame a creature), but now use a pet. i have been thinking of giving up CH though. but will i still be able to solo? i hardly think so. they made this game with groups in mind, yet add professions that should be played solo (scout/ranger, BH). well unfortunately, we will NEVER be as powerful as BH's, even when they finally fix our class.

sorry, im sorta ranting here......does anyone TRULY play solo?

I fight without a pet. I really don't think that the BIG mobs are meant to be soloed but there are plenty of Not-So-Big (but still pretty big) mobs that can be soloed without pets... if you are smart about it.

However, sometimes I play with my husband and he is a CH and we use his pets for meat shields.

I solo 90% of the time. I don't take on anything huge but i can handle some yellows without too many problems. It just requires the use of tactics and patience.

I solo hunt, and I don't use any pets. I will consider becoming a Creature Handler or buying a probot when they're balanced down to the point where I don't see one of each running by every single time I run out from the city (as opposed to any other given profession, which I have a small chance of seeing during a single run out and back). That's just me; I hate following the crowd that's flocking to the flavor-of-the-week profession, ability, etc.

The issue here is not that they made the game group-oriented but put in solo professions, but that single players using combat pets get combat capability equal to a group. Probots in the movies were deep space scouting droids, not droidekas. A Creature Handler in possession of ferocious dinosaurs should realistically be so involved in training and caring for them that they don't have time to become Bounty Hunters themselves, nor be able to divert their concentration in combat from keeping the pet under control, at least not as easily as CHs can presently do.

IMHO, combat droids need to be both expensive and fragile, and CHs should have had much much more demanding prerequisites than just two branches of Scout. The former is probably fixable at this point, while the latter is unfortunately not.

Heh. This veered off a bit from the issue of soloing as a ranger. Sorry.

Well , my answer to this is yes and no .

I have my Probot out at all times , because he gives me a group experience bonus when fighting .

I rarely use him to actually fight , tho , because they are so fragile now .

So in this sense I " solo " red con mobs all the time . The thing is , like the above poster mentioned , getting to know the lay of the land your on , what animals live there and what ones to avoid , what ones to kill and how to kill them safely .

With Master Trapping I don't have many problems at all facing even the hardest Mobs in the game , there are some that are just NOT possible to solo . Like the Krayt , that won't even appear for less than a party of 3 I believe , and Loks Kimogilas which teleport , spit lethal venom and hit for 2k + damage at a time and run faster than we can burst run . You just can't solo those monsters , period .

However you CAN solo red con MOBs with 10k+ health bars quite easily if you pick around for the right ones .

For example the Snorbal on Lok . Big fat elephant looking muthas that are nuetral and don't BAF . A little knowledge goes a long long way when fighting these . For instance , a pack with Elder or Mature Males should be avoided because the Males will defend the herd and attack you with all the other males the instant you fire your first shot . However , when you find a lair that's spawning Elder and Mature females and young ones , you can trap them and kite them in utter safety , even tho they con hard red and have over 10 ham bars . Each one is giving me thousands and thousands of XP points even in my higher professions , 400 - 500 trapping XP per throw ( even tho I maxed that my second day as Ranger ) and hundreds of Combat XP , Scout XP and resources per kill . Even the babies are good for 1.5 k Xp or so . All trapped and killed in complete and utter safety .

So it is possible and profitable with a little knowledge . Where and what your fighting . Best of luck and good hunting

I usually solo... never used a pet or droid.

I can take down some yellows and reds but it takes a while and I use up a lot of resources. I timed it the other day and if I kill a yellow I gain as much xp as I get killing 10 deep blues. It takes me a few minutes to kill the yellow and seconds to kill the deep blues.

I kill deep blues mostly but whites whenever I see them (whites seem to be the best for xp and ease of killing).

I also solo. I, however, will enjoy leading groups into the wilds when the Ranger class becomes more in demand for doing so. Until then I live by the Ranger concept and wander the wilderness, explore, and become at one with myself and my surroundings.

I solo CONSTANTLY on Corellia. No droids, no pets, and rarely ever with other PC's. Groups are more fun, but it's a b!tch trying to get scouting or survival XP when you have four scouts in a group.

I used to use a Probot, but the only time it sees the light of day now is when im camping afk for some protection.

I've never really hunted properly since they nerfed the armour on the Probot's. However, i know my limits, and tactics to take down the medium to semi-large creatures solo.
