Thread: questions to rangers
What sort of stats are considered good on a piece of hide/meat/bone?
Should i be looking for random spawns of mobs or is doing missions the best way to go for harvesting?
which planet is best?
thanks in advance
but thanks, i will check out the scout forum.

not to blame you, or call you out as different, but this is exactly what is wrong with the game. The fact that you can be a Master of a profession and have no real knowledge about it. Mastering Scout and Ranger while never leaving a starter planet is just plain wrong. You missed the point of the profession, in my opinion. The only professions I have ground were BH and Doctor. Both of them were for one reason-- roleplaying. I never wanted to have a BH forever, it was just something I wanted in my characters' bio to back up the history I wrote for him. Same thing with my doctor-- it's only a temporary stop-over to give my character a history. But I still know a lot about being a doctor. I learned enough to know what stats matter on meat, gas, fiberplast and wheat.
Again, I'm not saying this is your fault, or you didn't play the right way. I simply think this isa very good example of the problem with this game. Grinding teaches you nothing, and then you are forced to find everything out online, since you didn't learn how to do it by experience.

erm, i have actually been all over all planets and have got most location badges (not just flying through but looking around too) i harvested animals that i killed for something to sell on the basaars, i picked up novice scout because i played a ranger in another game. I decided to go ranger because just smacking mobs for loot got boring very quickly, or maybe you would like people to not harvest "high lvl" mobs when grinding a weapon skill because they they get to much scout exp? its not my problem that basic scout exp is the easiest to get in the game is it?
All i asked for was a bit of advise, it seems you are to far stuck up your own arse to give it so please go somewhere else.

Phenix already told you that you should go see the scout boards and read Brisc's guide.
JB isn't one to repeat what others have already said.

First off-- JB's been a Ranger since forever, back before I was around (and I've called this forum my stomping ground since September 2003). So he has every right in the world to be here.
Second-- you just insulted the guy whose advice you're going to be asking for. That's the scout correspondant. He knows what he's talking about. From the way you were talking, it DID sound like you basically stayed in one place and just was grinding through it, fully buffed/armored and not really learning anything. The best thing to do in this situation? Prove him wrong. Show him that you learned a few things and you need help with some others, and he'll gladly help you. as will we all. But insulting the correspondants doesn't really help you that much, since they generally know the tricks of the trade better than anyone.

So what your saying is, because he has been a ranger since the year dot he has the right to belittle people who have just started the game (less than 1 month ago) and have just started the profesion who would like a few hints as to where to go and what to kill. ok
sure you guys can take the opinion that you are the only ones allowed to be rangers and that new people can be patronised and called noobs (not exact words but thats clearly what he meant) He knows nothing about me or my play style, assuming i started in my home city and have never left my home planet. Again all i asked for was a few pointers, the rest i would happily learn myself, I didnt ask which mobs to kill, i asked which qualities are in demand (flavour/overall qual/toughness etc) which planets. i will quite happily search around hunting various mobs to find which is the better choice.
I have learnt one thing today, that these boards seem to be populated by self important elitists, sorry to have wasted yours and my time by posting here.
