Taken from DE forum (I can't clicky)

Just came home and didn't notice much infos about the fanfest, so I'll do a quick write up:

Ive just posted my pictures!

First of all, it was great fun, around 80 players turned up,4 devs, 1 artist (who was there enjoying her holiday) and two soe people (I'm bad with names, sorry ). Darthvader and 6 stormtroopers also showed up andguarded the exits We had breakfast, then the devs and the players introduced themselves. This was followed by a Q&A session where players could ask the dev team questions. They showed us a bit of footage from the upcoming expansion (didnt get to see much though, but the blue glowy of obi wan looked great )

This was followed by a short Q&A session about the expansion but really they didnt tell us much. Julio Torres said they want to keep the suspence up

Later the devs could be found at the SOE display. They set up 3 computers with great joysticks and allowed the visitors to fly JTL (with uberships, x-wings with a 5000 charge capacitor, supershields, etc ). They were really putting an effort into showing the people the game and handing out Total Experience 14 day trials (25000 of them, no barc speeder though ). I didnt see a different game where the actual devs were there and talking to the people. Two thumbs up

So, the blurb (Much was said so I hope I remember everything correctly):

Attendees:

Julio Torres - Producer - LucasArts, Grant McDonald - Producer - SOE, John Watson - Lead Game Programmer - SOE, Dan Rubenfield - Game Designer - SOE

General Combat

----------------------

- Health crystals giving +2000 health is a bug (so expect this to be nerfed)

- Mind crystals are known to be bugged but are not a top issue atm

- They are currently investigating an issue with speed modifiers, apparently these are not really working as intended

Jedi + FRS + FS

----------------------

- The basic answer to questions about the above was that they are working on the big picture here, so it sounded like there will be a bigger overhaul here but it will take a while. "Hang in there..." as Julio Torres reported

- Avoid incap, lightsaber speed issuesand missing good quality pearls and crystals were reported, no exact answers or dates were given

Droid Engineer

-------------------

- Droid engineers will be revamped. SOE envisions the droid as something every player would have as a companion in the game. In the movies the droids play an essential role, and they should do too in the game

JTL

----

- Capital ships have been programmed and are more or less ready but SOE still needs to find a way of introducing them into the game without breaking everything else

Image Designers

----------------------

- Race changes are currently being discussed. They may be added some day if SOE finds a way of doing this without making it too easy to change the race as this isnt "normal" in the sw universe

Polititian

-----------

- The devs have been made aware of the bug where the city management terminal sometimes only gives you the "examine" option

- A "dispand house" within city limits is not planned due to possible griefing

- You should not be able to build cities infront of the Rori Rebel Outpost

- One day plantary information such as if the maximum number of towns on a planet has been reached will be available via an interface

Trials of Obi Wan

-----------------------

- This planet will be for Jedis and Non Jedis alike. There will be more Jedi loot on this planet then there was on Kash.

- Players will be able to discover what it is like to be on the "light side" or "dark side"

- You will not be able to build player structures on the new planet

- There will not be be any "zones" as there are with Kash (I think they mean the "gates" thing)

Merchant

------------

- SOE is working on improving the game interfaces, and one area that will be looked at is the vendor interface, especially the part where your items expire after 30 days and you have to spend hours putting them back into the vendor.

Other

-------

- SOE has finshed programming a "house purge" function which removes old and unused harvesters from all planets on all servers. They are now working out the details of how the players will be warned about the upcoming purge

- The number of players playing SWG is currently rising, not falling, no server merges are planned.

- Because of the large interest during the fanfest and the games convention SOE is considering adding a german localisation to the game (maybe now is a good to write them if your interested in that )

- Theres a new guy working on improving the game performance (he did the terrain optimization in the recent publish and is continueing his work)

- SWG automatically takes advantage of multicore processors

- "Twileks cant smile" bug was reported to the devs

So there you go, if ithink of anything else ill post it here, if anyone else who attended wants to add things ive forgotten just reply

Hmmm...I see a note about DEs getting revamped...but I don't see anything that says when.

There is no timeframe there, and there also aren't any notes on the Squad Leader Change, which, according to JFreeman should be betting introduced in publish 24 or 25. So perhaps not every possible change was listed because there were giving the changes that were going to affect a larger segment of the community. So they didn't feel the need to put in all the info on "niche" professions like SL or Ranger because honestly, how many people would stand up and cheer for Ranger changes? Very few, if our position on the most mastered profession is any indication.

In other words, this is another example of chicken little syndrome. Nowhere on there does it explicitly (or even implicitly) state anything abou which order professions are getting revamped in, or when we can expect these changes. The only thing we have a timeframe on is the Trials of Obi-Wan expansion. November 1st. Other than that, everything else is idle speculation until we have more definitive proof. Unless you have data that says a dev said "DE will be revamped in the next publish" you have absolutely no evidence that they're going to get worked on before us.

This is what I'm talking about people. You can be critical of SOE and their policies, and wary of being overly hopeful. But when you take a benign piece of info like "DE's will be recive a revamp" and warp it into "DE's Getting another Revamp NOT Ranger", you've gone past being objective and are no longer being helpful in any way, shape or form.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Evidence! DE has a past history of 3 Revamps. What history does Ranger have. Everytime DE has been told they are getting a rework or revamp they have gotten it. DE is seen as vital to the SWG content, we are not.

Also if you look where Dev man hours must now go Trials of Obi and Jedi FRS and anything that will be included to meet the Lucas Arts deadline for Trials then Ranger and SL must lose out.

Um...hate to burst your bubble, but that's not "evidence"...it's still just speculation...because there is still no timeframe. Past behavior cannot always be established as evidense of future action, which is why in a court of law, past action is often viewed as one of the most easily defeated arguments. Good evidense is something concrete. For example: SL have gotten word that they're going to be worked on in Pub 24-25. Yet there's not a note in your list about their changes. Therefore it is a FACT that not all upcoming changes were put on that list. It is also an indisputable fact that nowhere in your list is there any word of when these changes will come out.

Well considiering that pub 23 is going to a bug-fix patch...and 24 is when JFreeman speculated SL changes would be coming...I'm going to go out onlimb here and say that SL will get changes before they implement a new FRS. Also, Trials of Obi-Wan is an expansion...and most expansions are worked on by a completely seperate team than the ones working on professions...so simply because Trials is coming out doesn't mean that all developers are working on that, and in fact it's likely that there are two teams, so Trials won't affect work on professions until it's live and all the bugs surface...which mean November.

Again, all you have is speculation. It's fine to say that you believe that, but trying to state your fears as fact is simply childish.

Well, at least the new planet won't be in zones like Kashyyk, so that's a plus. And hey, they're making it possible for me to smile, I'd grin about that, but it's still rather impossible. Nice to see they have completed the Capitol Ships, just that they're too psychotic to know how to put them in the game without breaking everything just yet.

But eh, SL has their revamp first, and we've pretty much been ignored for a long time. I'm willing to say good for the DEs because I'm used to my bugs and maybe with another droid I'll be even better. Who knows, such is the state of affairs.

I keep seeing notice of other professions getting a revamp. If we don't care enough aboutwhen our own revamp will come, why should the Devs? This is why I have been stating the reasons that we need a revamp, and what indicates that we aren't going to get one at all, never mind any time soon. They keep noting "new and exciting changes" which will help move attention from the fact that they have already stated at a previous fan fest which professions will be getting attention. I think they are trying to make it easier to ignore us, and we make it easy for them by not caring (when) in my opinion.

Edited to prevent from insulting those who care about our revamp.

So what do we do? Go back to complaining on every forum possible in a loud shrill whining voice just to get people to hate us for even trying? We don't have the numbers, heck even the Smugglers are complaining in every thread they can find and still aren't fixed yet. We don't have half their numbers and we're far too content to just chill here in any case.

The simple fact is: The only way we would get attention is by luck or whining only achieved by an entire 300 page whinefest dedicated to our cause. Personally I doubt even that would get us attention for a revamp, just more excuses, so I'm more content just waiting it out.

Where do you get this? I don't think there's a single person who doesn't care about a Ranger revamp on this forum. How many people have presented constructive ideas, proposals, thoughts, etc. I know a lot of people care about this profession more than is healthy (myself included). How you can look at the "genius" thread and not see a bunch of people who care about getting a revamp is beyond me. Maybe people don't agree that complaining about it is the best course of action, but that doesn't mean they don't care about a revamp. They might simply feel other tactics are more effectve.

Ask anybody on these forums. My guess is that they'll tell you they care about Ranger getting a revamp.

I can't even respond to any of your other points when you insult me and the rest of the Ranger community by insinuating that we don't care about getting what we deserve. I realize that not everybody agrees with your tactics, but to say that they don't care is like telling somebody that if they don't believe in your religion, that they don't care about God.

Ok, maybe I should have placed "not caring when we get our revamp."

I apoligize, and will edit my original post, since that single word makes a big difference. You guys just seem to watch other professions getting their good changes with "oh, good for them" attitudes, but I don't know how much more of that I could take.
