Thread: An acceptable change to harvesting?

I was thinking of the following changes to creature harvesting.





Novice Scout:


Normal harvesting


Hunting 2:


Harvest Hide - even if you have already harvested a resource from the creature, you may harvest an additional amount of hide if you use this ability.


Hunting 4:


Harvest Bone - even if you have already harvested a resource from the creature, you may harvest an additional amount of bone if you use this ability.


Novice Ranger:


Tan Hide - the Ranger may use this ability every 30 minutes. If the creature's corpse you select this ability for is known to drop a loot known as Hide, you obtain a stack of5 with a bonus equal to the minimum of that type. This value increases with your creature knowledge skill, which will grant the highest possible bonus at Master Ranger.


Hunting 2 of Ranger:


Harvest Meat - even if you have already harvested a resource from the creature, you may harvest an additional amount ofmeat if you use this ability.


Pull Teeth - the Ranger may use this ability every 30 minutes. If the creature's corpse you select this ability for is known to drop a loot known as Teeth, you obtain a stack of5 with a bonus equal to the minimum of that type. This value increases with your creature knowledge skill, which will grant the highest possible bonus at Master Ranger.


Hunting 4 of Ranger:


Harvest Organs - the Ranger may use this ability every 30 minutes. If the creature's corpse you select this ability for is known to drop a loot based on bodily organs, not including hide, teeth or bones, you obtain a stack of5 with a bonus equal to the minimum of that type. This valueincreases with your creature knowledge skill, which will grant the highest possible bonus at Master Ranger.


Master Ranger:


(someone help me with the name ) - You have the ability to pick the best parts for your intentions. When you use the Tan Hide, Pull Teeth, or Harvest Organs ability, you will be given a choice between the stats of the loot. You will be able to chose which you would like to have as a the maximized or minimized stat. You will only be able to chose one of these stats, and it will give a bonus to that stat from the loot you would normally obtain while using the ability without making a selection of stats.






Input? Would this affect the economy? Should there be a higher cool-down timer?

a bit confused.


what would these looted body parts do?


just a trophy?


or an item enhacement? (such as Teeth for sword cores, organs for medicines, hides for armor)

I think he means they would be similar to the loot that you normally get for that creature in usefullness. So, for example, if you use Tan Hide on a Gurk King it would give you Gurk Hides above and beyond what you can loot off the creature.


Not a bad idea overall, give rangers a little more use in the game.

ok, at first i thought he meant something along the lines of saying that only someone with the Harvest Organs ability could loot Krayt Tissues (they look like organs, right?)

Examples:


Organs - Rancor Bile, Spider Venom (From the Fire Spider in the Geo Cave,) Krayt Tissues, Janta Blood?


Hide - Krayt Scales, Rancor Hides, Kimo Scales, Gurk King Hides (maybe not, as this is a required component of "legendary" armor,) Voritor Scales, Brackaset Plates, Fambaa Plates, Janta Hide?


Teeth - Rancor Tooth, Bile-soaked Rancor Tooth, are there any others really? I coulda sworn there were.

My point is this: Every creature that drops Teeth as loot will undoubtedly have teeth 100% of the time you are fighting it, unless it is really old and they fall out as per the creature's life cycle. There should be no reason that someone with knowledge of creatures cannot remove a tooth. Same with hide, except they are easier to obtain removethan teeth.

So will you be able to get these resources only as a Scout/Ranger? Just clearing up the info, in case this means we are the only ones that get to loot these things. Perhaps you just mean that we get more of these products when we do loot.

Not answering for Bio, but I would imagine anyone who kills a creature can LOOT it and get the random roll for whether or not they find anything and then just how good it is.


We rangers, on the other hand, would be guarenteed to HARVEST it from the creature, albeit at the lowest level of loot initially, gradually improving as we climb the tree to master, whereby we'd get considerably better results.


For example.


A ranger and a pistoleer are each hunting their own rancor. The pistoleer kills his and 'loots' the corpse. He finds nothing. The ranger on the other hand, kills his rancor and is immediately able to harvest some hide, and then harvest a bile soaked tooth. It's pretty crappy since he is not a master, but it's better than nothing and will help pay for some metal for traps.


A few weeks go by and both the ranger and the pistoleer are at it again. This time, the pistoleer loots the corpse and gets a tooth! And wow, it turns out that its an uber tooth with a great bonus!! The ranger is still able to harvest his tooth and this time, it's much better bonus because he is master and much more able to skillfully remove the tooth with its properties intact.


That's how I read the proposal

My main problem with this is that loot items are meant to be rare. Everyone is not meant to be walking around with damage/speed capped weapons and health bonus capped armor. Such a change would make loot made items much easier to find. It's a cool idea but I think it's a bit risky to implement.

Easy solution, lower the drop rate on the items, they're too stupidly common as it is. Better option remove the /loot option from creatures and make it harvest only by those with skill. There's no /harvest option on NPCS. How's a city-slicker supposed to know where the krayt gullet is? With the LONG reuse timer there would be substantially less of these cluttering the economy than the rifleman killing 10 an hour.

the only change to harvesting is going to be more people harvesting while grinding xp. Of course, not all people will be harvesting, but i can only guess that skins, hides and bones will go from .25cpu to having to pay someone to take it off your hands.
