Thread: Anyone else feel like they are running through mud?
I play with a few friends, but usually alone so I don't get to compare my speed much.
But today I felt especially sluggish, but I was alone.
I met up with my chef friend and my master dancer friend and we headed to town...
I couldn't keep up with them! I was 100 meters behing after a while when we started off together!
I was holding NO weapon or anything else, I thought it was because I was on follow but that wasn't it.
I had to burst run to catch up with them after they got 100 meters away and even then I felt slow.
Anyone else having this problem please bug it, because I bug enough and I'm tired, I just shut off the game.
SOOOOO SICK OF THIS GAMES FAULTS (I guess I am a glutton for punishment)
- One of the issues I've noticed is that running speed (even when on auto-run), is based on client-server latency.
- The server is continually prompting the client to see if you are still running, what direction, etc.
- So ifmy machine is being ungrateful, or the server is lagging, or you are having a bad internet day...
- As well, your running speed can change depending on which server in the galaxy cluster you are currently playing (the galaxy is made up of multiple machines running different portions of the game space).
- I run the same speed as my medic when I'm in town (he has no scout skills at all). But on Naboo's Northern Plains (reasonably flat terrain), he tends to lag behind considerably.
- It's an irritating issue, I agree. ![]()
Nah I think what he's saying is that sometimes you run slower or faster than another player who has the same terrain ability. You're on the same game server, is it that the client computers are reporting movement at different rates? Not sure...

"Nah I think what he's saying is that sometimes you run slower or faster than another player who has the same terrain ability."
- That was what I understood from his post as well. ![]()
"You're on the same game server, is it that the client computers are reporting movement at different rates?"
- Yes, the client computer(and the latency between it and server) do seem to impact your rate of movement. ![]()
Did you use the Take Cover ability before this happened?
This ability is bugged, and will make you run at an extremely slow speed right after it's used...
"I can't remember but I believe all Bothans tend to run slow, I know that my Bothan does, can anyone find some official semblance of this?"
- I know that Bothans tend to swim slower than taller races (simply because they have swim farther, as their feet don't touch the ground as quickly as taller characters). ![]()
- As for running speed, I don't have a clue. Ifrace does influence the speed that would explain why my medic runs slower than me (he's a Bothan as well). ![]()
Running does seem slower though since the last mega patch. I don't use take-cover and generally only run with a pistol equipped. It used to take me, pre-patch, about 4 minutes to run to my house. It now takes 4.5 to 5 minutes.
As with any experiment, there are constants and variables.
I play with the same people all the time, I know their terrain negotiation, and I know mine.
98% of the timeI blow them away as expected.
But I have had a few instances where i couldn't keep up with them, it is obviously a bug.
One time, using a shuttle to another city fixed it, so it fixes itself sometimes.
I am not debating why it happens (it's a bug)
Just wondering if anyone else gets this running bug.
Well, I noticed this the other night:
I had just beenkilled when I met a friend near the clone center, so my HAM bars were 1/4 black, at least. We decided to run out to meet some friends and get me healed. On the way we ran about even speed.
During the course of our long run, she was jumped and quickly killed by a critter without suffering any black HAM wounds. I set up camp and healed myself as she made her way back to me. By the time she got there, I was fully healed and we set out again.
I was easily twice as fast as her now. So fast that I had to stop every 10 seconds for her to catch up.
So I think that significant HAM bar damage will dramatically reduce your terrain negotiation skills.
This was a pretty good experiment for this, since it was the same characters being measured within a 5 minute time frame across the same terrain andplanet, so we can assume the server latency was the same before and after I healed.
Last night I was hunting cu pas, when a group of overt Imperials ran up, with pets and droids, and obliterated the cu pas and their lair (thank you very much). They then started firing at me! I had no idea I was under the effect of a TEF (which is another issue), and promptly began bursting for my life.
For all the good it did. They caught up with me! I have no idea how they managed, but they did. Naturally, I took the Cloner Express back to Wayfar.
What's the point in bursting (I'm Wayfarer IV, BTW) if the bad guys can catch you? How did they do it? Is it because I'm a Bothan? If so, that's incredibly stupid. I'm a marathon runner, and know a lot of runners shorter than me who can outrun me with speed. A species issue, perhaps? Or a stat migration issue? What are the gating factors to a) how fast you can run, and b) how far you can run?
Had you taken cover recently?
Don't know if they fixed this, but if you take cover, then try to move, you will go at a crawl to a slow walk.
Dunno if this is anything to do with it, and I don't know if the problem has been fixed yet, but I do know that is has happened to other people very recently.
Hope this helps.
