Thread: Battered, Broken Yet Still VERY Useful Maybe Even More So
Yes like every other Ranger in all the galaxies, I am frustrated at the broken profession, but I see a sway of benefits to us. We have been hit hard with many different "benefits" to other professions and the game that take a little something away from us. So yes we are battered and broken. Many will want to change and move on to perhaps when fixed to come back. (and we will be fixed. and being last we might get the best.)
Lets sit back and look at the silver lining of this dark cloud that has befallen us. Camps are no longer needed for vehicles, pets, or droids. Making camps even more useless and the small market of camp selling no longer there. Now what this does is get rid of many scout dabblers that had it for camps. There are a lot less harvest capable players out there. Yes I know there are other professions that still use scout, but how many of those characters actually harvest and harvest a lot? We are the harvestors. We are the organic harvestors of the universe. (I myself don't want this to be our only attribute, but we have it and we can use it). I get many tells now asking if I have stacks or different organics. I am actually in the business of harvesting with a group of rangers. We are overwhelmed! But when they revamp Ranger and more people will come towards ranger, I will already be known and when we are useful and other players need us, I will be known and they will come to me.
Rangers are a community no just a profession and for our future I think we would do well to unite. To get to know each other. Hunt out and find other Rangers get to know them. Design a network. Utilize what we have now so that we own the land when things change.
I know on Eclipse many of us have come together. Both as an actualpa and as a community of rangers. We have a chat channel RIN. And we hunt together. The latest was a large group hunting Rancors for bone. We welcome everyone to hunt. And we are always looking for new rangers to join our ranks be it in the pa or as part of the community.
If you are bored and want to dabble around, I can't wait to see you back later. But those who have good secondaries (I am a swordsman and am loving it) and are willing to stick around look at the positives. Utilize what works and make yourself rich while keeping the market balanced. Make yourself known! We are still useful and when things change we will be even greater.
This forum is full of brilliant suggestions and I have loved having NRass as our correspondent. We will make it and it will be fun. It is all a matter of how you play.

Antarian Rangers We are the organic harvestors. And we love the hunt!
Good points.
Hopefully we'll see prices on hides/bones/meat increase.
I still think it's crazy that I can make far more money with far less effort mining metals and chemicals with zero artisan skills than I can make spending countless hours hunting and harvesting organics as a master ranger, wearing out armor and weapons in the process that will have to be replaced.
Seriously....I canspend all of 15 minutes checking my harvesters and generators and selling these materials on the bazaar and make more money than spending all day hunting and harvesting. The only exception occurs when there is some really great quality organic that is on a mob I can get missions for and I can harvest a large number of units of organic off. Having 999 OQ Wooly Hides does me little good when it's on paralopes on Talus (no missions, 10 hides tops normally off one).
That high?
I normally sell high-quality meats for 40-60 CPU.
Yes we could really get rich and drive the prices up but then what does it do to our clothes, armor, and food? Everything goes up.
Our (AR and its hunting group) intent is to maintain a level so that prices won't go sky high.
We would love to see more fighters teaming up with us. Therefore we kill more and harvest more. If you still have some scout even better.
All I was saying is that we may become rare, but we are still necessary. Love your secondary. I love mine. With that I can handle Ranger for now and live for a brighter future. We are still needed and will always be needed unless organics just magically pop up at the doors of the tailors, chefs, and other artisans.
Don't dwell on the negative. Comment on it, make your voice heard so that change can happen, and then turn to the positives. Make a name for yourself in the Ranger Community, make yourself know throughout your galaxy, and keep yourself paid.
Thanks again to Nraas for his dedication and for all the other die-hard rangers for their opinions and hopes for a brighter future.

Well said.
Spreading depressing thoughts simply leads to further depression... A vicious circle.
Plan for a future where the developers have cycled back to our profession. When that happens, we will be elevated once more (hopefully in a manner to the communities liking).
Until then, either hang around and bandy proposals, or move on and visit the other professions thathave been in the developer's eye more recently. ![]()

ya, I have seen my BoH skyrocket as a result. I still sell 15-20 for the best stuff. 40-60 is the relm of good fish meat. There the labor (amount vs time) to get it would justify the price, but not the stuff that drops 50 or more per critter. I have seen what could only be called gouging it the trade forums, so even you pricing is low compared to what I saw in the auctions.
Gather a large group and have them all harvest. It really help multiply out the harvest, keeping prices down. If I had to hunt all that by myself, ya, I definatly see your pricing. One thing I swore to my self is I would not ride the price up like that if at all possible.
The price can enter the ionisphere for all I care.

How many people do you know who are going to join your group so they can harvest resources and just hand them over to you?
Bottom line is that's what my time is worth. If I can make more credits running missions than what people want to pay, I will, and the Doctors can go get their own freaking herbivore meat.
Chilastra has made the RRIN, which sends updates of resource shifts to all rangers that are signed up, as part of a collective which might eventually include a shop to sell our goods. Though I haven't been involved for the past week due to me working on my alt character. But it works well and there is a certain unity among us.

I've hunted along side Frederick recently , and the way he does so it to make it useful to the others hunting is pay them up front for what they personally harvest, then he just combines everyones and sells it for around the same price he bought it at from you. Works out pretty good.
You may say, why not just keep it yourself and sell it off? Because it would take you much longer to get the same amount solo. And you make an easy buck by selling it right away and very decent prices.
Unless you're using a very liberal definintion of "around" this doesn't sound like a good deal for the guy running the show.

Actually it probably won't take me much longer. Yes, the sum total harvest of a group will be greater than my total harvest, but an individual's share probably won't be. The group would have to outpace me by 40% just to keep up, and a soloist can move faster.
Obviously you have not hunted with me before
There is a point where a group is more efficient then solo. Knowing the difference is somewhat an art form but it's about at class level 15 where the hide/meat/bone is plentiful enough (50 per or so). I got a 120k bone stack in three days with a group on Dathimir. Could have been one day but we were not all that serious about it. We never are actually, that would be... boring
but let me tell you, NEVER could do that solo.
Organization is the key. So is volume. Also keep in mind that missions are half the yield as Natural lairs. Ideally you hopeget many naturals on the way to mission lairs and the mission lairs are thereto cover the time you don't find natruals. In the end share the profit. I pay pretty good, not as much as an auction, but I want to keep costs to my customers down so that they don't go else where and I get plenty of word-of-mouth advertisement.
btw, I see in your sig that you are a Rifleman. Use BoH? Ryshcate? ...need meat for those. Pate needs Domesticated even. Going to need a group to make a stack of that out of the SavageHumbaba's in Agrilat. I've solo'ed them too but the merchant gets much more with a group and everyone gets about the same money individually as I would selling a smaller stack solo.
Get bored of Pikets? Take another contract that takes you to Lok or Yavin. I never get tired of the game that way and I have had guys tell me this has renewed their interest in the game. Why grind when you can actually do your role and make money and gain exp and... oh wait for it... have fun
.
Bottom line: hunt with me long enough and you will never have to worry about money or experience again. ![]()
