Well, reading that, I wouldn't hold my breath while waiting for it. Smugglers and other profs have been given more specific timeframes in the past and are still waiting.
After the CU goes live, he says. 1 month after or 1 year after? Both are valid with TH's statement

'twas ever thus.
Sometime away back in the mists of time, around about when CU first started to get pushed about as a 'real' idea and not just vapourware, somebody (could have been TH, could have been some other red name) said that there would be no more 'significant' profession upgrades till after the CURB.
After that they'd get back to the profs that had so far been neglected interms of revupdating, including smuggler, tailor and some other one I can't remember.
At that time, around Halloween, the CURB would start happening 'after the holidays'. So folk speculated that CURB would be here 'around Christmas and, taking how long it takes to get stuff off SOE's drawing board to Live, the expected date for the 'other' revupdates was going to land around July. That was shot down as a) idle speculation and b) pessimism, but the odd thing is... its working out round about 'right'.
Anyhows, I'd still not hold my breath waiting. Things are looking like they are going to change SO much that we're going to still be relearning how the world works, let alone how our profession works, for months yet.

Rangers are another important issue. They aren't considered a core combat profession, so their role wasn't included in the combat professions role overview, but we hope to address that profession after the Combat Upgrade goes live. We'll release more information when the details start to firm up some time down the road.
"We hope"? "Some time down the road"? How about never? How about just dropping Ranger from the game althogether? Apart from people who mine resources, we are the main provider of organic resources, and for that we get... nothing. Just do another buff, spend another week shooting birds/cows/goats/monkeys/giant rabbits with huge pointy teeth, and get paid what ever passes for peanuts. How many times have I dropped off a stack of hides for some artisan living in a massive house with just about every single loot item on the walls while being told that the price is 75 cpu, take it or stick it. Rangers have to work for a living, as opposed to other professions. We can't sit and grind for hours, we can't set up a macro, we can't go and shoot high-level NPCs for loot. We need to track, trap (pfft...), fight and harvest to make some money. And for this we get to watch everybody else get fancy loot made armor and whatever else they want.
I used to think Fencer got the rawest deal, but now I firmly believe it's Rangers.

This is the same revamp we have been promised for the past year.
Holding your breath will make you turn all blue and pass out, don't do it.
I think I will be a Jedi before the revamp ever hits, and I am not power grinding at all.

Look at it this way after the curb we are going to become some of the most profitable professions around. mid-level content will become high-end and high-end will become "make it quick and bite my head off now"-end so harvesting organics will become even harder driving our level of fun, and prices up. Though............ that will give rise to a new breed of rangers that do it just for the money. After that happens prices will proabably go back down to the regular levels.

I agree with the Second half of Nick's comments. We do actually have to work if we want to make money. can't plop down an animal harvester and walk away.

here's the problem with that though buddy, We will not be able to stack Combat professtions at all, unless you just dont want an Elite Master(which would be suicide, more likely than not). So you might not even be able to hunt creatures you thought were 'mid-level' after the CU without a group.
Just as i predicted, Rifleman will be slow and even more defenseless than we are now. If even a Bull bantha gets to me i'll probably die.......And has it been confirmed that Master Ranger + 1 Elite combat Master yields the Full health increase (3000)???? If not, we're F'ed.........

No not confirmed, TH is looking into it.
As for the revamp, it has been coming after the CU for a long time now. I just hope its soon, very soon.

oh my goodness! six question marks in the title! it must be important!
hehe...
in all seriousnes, TH has assured us that Ranger will be focused on after the CU (maybe not right afterwards). Just be assured that the Ranger team will make sure to bring as much info to the devs as possible to keep us competitive between the CURB and the Ranger Revamp.

TH also assured Smugglers that they were a space based profession and would see their revamp with or right after JTL. Which of course hasn't happened yet.
His comment that Rangers would be getting a revamp after the CU isn't anything new really. The last plan the devs posted before they stopped telling us about future plans was CU -> Non-Combat Profession Revamps -> GCW. Rangers getting taken care of after the CU would still fit in with that plan that also has to include crafters, entertainers, etc.
P.S. I must play this game because I enjoy being ignored by the devs. Check out the professions in my sig....Ranger, Smuggler, Entertainer. I'm definitely a glutton for punishment.

I must admit to a certain creeping air of cynicism whenever I hear the political use of 'later', 'after the blah' or my all time favourite 'it's a known issue and will be addressd in a later hotpublipatfix'.
Yeah, we'll get the Ranger Revamp someday. On recent performance it'll be a shocker for some as we get given 'what was asked for' anytime up to as long ago as the start of the game. One thing, at least we've got the Outdoorsman Proposal to keep waving at them and say THIS is what we're asking for AND it's been updated several times to accomodate the changes that've come into the game over the yearS.
Smugglers, Squad Leaders and Rangers are all 'due' their turn of the Dev Love Brush 'later'. Still, hopefully the CURB will help focus attention on the desperate need for fixes SOONER rather than later.

I hope it's soon too. With more information about the combat revamp coming out, which contains even more ill-thought ideas (example: ranged professions needing to perform death-blow at melee range), I've already put my sub down to one-month at a time (I'd previously gone down from six to three after reading Blair's original post). If the combat revamp doesn't work out well, and they take too long to revamp ranger, I won't get to see it
