Thread: Please support this idea for bringing back bio-farms which benefit Scouts/Rangers (link inside)

I'd say at the very least theres 1 ranger for every 5 people who want such materials in large amounts. ...snip...
I have 20 asking me. I cannot keep up. We have begged the devs to give us FULL harvest for months now (not pick one, harvest EVERYTHING at once, hide, meat and bone). To be blunt, the amount of harvest to the demand is utterly pitiful.
In his original post, i got the impression that it would be the rangers who would get the farms, but after clarification, it would be the BE. Therefore, the good money and fun I have from hides and meat, would be diminished to mere pittance, the challenge would be gone.
I think there are some good seeds of ideas in it, but in the end, we would be pretty useless in the hide trades, and thats something I dont want to happen.
If we rangers would get the farms, then I would enjoy that, but as this idea stands, we would get our profits cut significantly
For me, I work a lot on a barter system. There are times when I have worked for a BE for a cool pet, or some free petstims.
The problem is not Rangers jacking up the prices from my experience, but Armorsmiths offering 50 to 75 cpu for hides etc. We get accustomed to this type of pay, and when a BE and an AS comes up offering cash for resources, I go with who asked first.
If a BE asked me for 10k meat offering 10cpu and a good non-ch pet, I would probably take the offer. Even if I couldnt use it, I would use it for decoration in my house.
the trick is, find out what a ranger wants, and try to provide that... so I dont mind working for barter
I'm going to appear really negative but sorry its my view.
Dont like the idea of farms, I dont want BE's to have them as it will reduce the usefullness of Ranger a great deal, I dont want Ranger to have them as I dont see Ranger being a farmer. Being a Milkman is bad enough, but farmer...!
No thanks.
A complete absence of constructive alternatives I know, thats cos I dont have any... Doesnt stop me not wanting what is being suggested though. Sorry.
Don't worry, Rangers, I'm with you on the "this could ruin us" bit. I think instead we should focus in these issues:
- Harvest Output. 20% bump is not going to fix this, more like 10 times increase.
- Harvest all of the creature. This should have been done yesterday. I have notbeen trying not to push this because, like much of our stuff, we had a "once over" alreadyand what remains takes significant mods to the code. There are other profs waiting for "love".
- Exactly why are there so few of us? I don't mean the Holo-slaves, I mean the ones that stay. Masters. Perhaps a more indepth look at that should be done.
Unfortunatly, that also leaves us at at turning point that I'm beginning to feel may make me leave Ranger, if we truely become the "Farmer Fred" profession, I'm going to have to go. "Ranger" would be a poor description for the class at that point and become a misnomer.
Going to have to agree. This does not seem to be a good idea. It turns Ranger into a passive profession which we definately are not. We are extremely active.
Organics themselves are not a problem. You can find tons of organics. Everyone that has scout harvests. So the stacks are large. The problem lies in the fact that most people hunt for xp. They hunt what gives them the best xp not what gives them the best materials. Master Scouts and Rangers are hunting for a reason. We are out there finding the best quality because our clients want the best quality. The best solution for this is a bolstered Ranger harvest and making the profession more appealing so that our numbers will grow.
The other problem I see with farms is the shift in organics. How does the shift come into play? Don't think the devs would like something that would mess with the shifts. Probably why they nixed the idea in the begining.

The only person who can make fun of me better than I can myself is a fellow ranger.
Oh Lordy look who it is... Tal-N, unfortuantely I agree with him 100%. I would also like to see farms brought back into the game. I would suggest however that a farm be a special building that only a Creature Handler could place. I would suggest that these farms should not be redeedable and that the should produce 1/2 the amount of resources of a heavy harvester per day so that Rangers have a place as well.
In addition to maintenance costs, I think such a structure should probably have both power and flora costs as well.

God, what a horrible idea. Farms, psh. I am a Ranger cause I enjoy going out and hunting, not running around, collecting from my farms. I don't care that this would limit our income, I would be a Ranger if I couldn't give away resources. Even if this became a Ranger only deal, it's still a terrible idea.
I hate this idea too. Please, NRass, do anything you can to prevent this from happening.
If BEs want meat, then they have two options. One, unlike chef, doctor, andarmorsmith, they have the ability to harvest meat for themselves with the prerequisite of Hunting IV in scout. Two, hire a ranger. I would love to be hired out for some good reptilian or carnivore meat. It would be a nice change of pace from herb meat, wooley hide, and avian meat. I would get to kill animals that I normally ignore like snakes, lizards, and cats.
The best way to fix this is from what's been suggested above. Give us a better harvest yield and, at master, the ability to harvest all resources at once (any RL hunters out there get the animal skinned and find no bones or meat?????). This would fix the animal food shortages and give Rangers uniqueness. It would also solve the problem of people posting "That's it, I quit." and increase theposts of "New Master Ranger on...".
