I was thinking of sticking it out until the Big Patch to see how much improvement this profession would receive, but I don't have high hopes and to be honest, I'm sick of waiting.

So I discarded my Master Ranger title last night in favor of Novice Marksman (pistols) and instantly increased my combat ability.

We all know this profession's many weaknesses so I won't regurgitate them here. But I wanted to thank the forum citizenry for the many months of interesting and civil discourse.

I have no idea if or when they'll put enough useful abilities into this profession to make it worth coming back, but I sure hope they do.

Just a word of warning though: Rangers havebeen waiting 6 weeks or more for a single ability, camo kits, to arrive in a debugged, balanced and practical form because our developer is so busy with all of the other professions he manages and the fact that he's apparently the lead programmer on player cities. If the camo kit introduction is any indication of how well the player city rollout will go, expect to get far less attention, not far more. It could be many, many months before your wish lists are even looked at, let alone delivered in a working fashion.

With any luck, I'll be proven completely wrong and come running back as fast as I can. But I'm not willing to bet three more months on it.

Have fun, guys.

Disappointing. Have you given up Ranger entirely or just the Master title?

Well of course you did. But that's like saying I traded in my old car for a new one last night and instantly increased the amount I can bench press.

That you weren't having success (or fun) with your character's configuration doesn't mean the ranger class is broken ... it means you weren't using your skill points in the way that best suits your style. Maybe now you're closer to that configuration.

Me? I'd love to have better medical skills for those rare times I solo these days ... but I'm really quite happy with my skill set (ranger/rifleman)

Don't leave... you take too much crap that was spozed to be directed at me !!!

On a serious note, I am a Pistoleer (1-2-4-2), Master Ranger, Medic (3-0-4-0)... and so far I have been kicking serious butt on missions and PvE. If my silly self would wear armor, I betcha I could clean up in most PvE (poop on BEs, the dude or dudette pulls a scatter, I endduel, t'aint fair it t'aint)

Sorry to see ya go, but come back and see if the stuff is fixed.

I also surrendered the master title today. I've been thinking that my view of the ranger is not the same as the role I believe the devs have intended for them in the SWG interdependency, so I moved towards squad leadership. I would like to see /track before I surrender all my ranger skills.

Mmm, I'm willing to bet that a lot of people that wanted to play this profession (like me) and finally gave up would disagree with you. The problem is that I was having plenty of fun, and almost none of it was coming out the ranger trees.

Do a lot of crawling, do ya? How many times a night do you use Rescue? 25? People just begging you for camo kits?

No, the nice part is that my game play hasn't changed at all. I still use camps, I still use my favorite traps and I still move at the same speed. And it didn't cost me 63 skill points. It's like I get to pick up an entirely new combat skill set for free!

I gave up most or all of Wayfaring andSurvival last night. I'll dump Trapping when I need more skill points. I may keep a few bricks of Tracking.

That's to bad Jmatt, I always enjoyed your posts. I'm just surprised you even made it to master ranger with no ranged combat skills at all. I'm guessing you must have taken up Brawler, but still, wow.

Thanks for your kind words. I'll still lurk to check on things but I'll try to keep my whining and sarcasm to a minimum.

Yeah, I got the Master title with 2-Handed Swordsman. I enjoy getting up close and personal (which is why our To-Hit bonuses did nothing for me, nor would a hunting blind).

Sorry to see you go Jmatt. I have read many of your posts, I hope that you will continue to post on this board. It's a shame when a master ranger bites the dust.. Hopefully they will add more useful features so that you'll come back.

I know how you feel. I too have been entertaining thoughts of retiring my Ranger skills in favor of a more practical profession.

I would give up Rangering if it weren't the profession I had my heart set on since they announced its inclusion so many months ago. It is just toohard to give up something I put so much love and attention into.

I think that the one thing that would cause me to drop all Ranger skills instantly would be if they, Development, outright announced that Rangers would get no PvP abilities. No class should be excluded from the GCW, especially not a profession as combat oriented as Rangers!

I too allready knew I would be a Ranger before the game went Live.

I mastered it and it was fun for a few weeks. 3 weeks ago I started dropping Ranger skills in favor of CH skills. I'm now down to Tracking 3 and all my others skills have been surrendered. The coming week I'm dropping the whole Ranger profession altogether.

I'm now 4 boxes away from Master Pistoleer and Master CH and a whole new game has opened up for me. On paper Ranger is and was really cool and I wore the title with pride. Now that I'm looking back there's really not much benefit from a Ranger over a Master Scout. I'm sure that the new traps and hunt camps will be cool but not cool enough to stick around long enough.

I miss the camps, but nothing a scout camp can't handle if you honestly think about it. I'll miss tracking and camps but that's about it.
