Thread: The DEVS have it Right -- Sorry
I am getting real tired about how the harvest reduction and lair HP increase has everyone upset. The DEVS did a GOOD thing.
1) I read complaints " We can make money, not enough hides/bones/meat to harvest" and then the next line "I sell to my guild mates for 1c/unit". Gee no wonder your not making money.
2) I don't want to pay 30c/unit I'll give you 2c/unit 5000 hides min. -- armorsmith. Turns and sell his factory made armor at 500% markup (more with the cheap hides we provide).
3) Things are too tough to SOLO now. This is NOT a soloing game!!! Get over it. If people you are grouped with don't want to harvest, find ones that do. (This was probably brought about by one person harvesting then selling for 1cr/unit)
This economy was broken for RANGERS and SCOUTS, now more people are willing to go out with us. I have made more credits now than before because a groups need everybody they can get to help kill MOBS and lairs. Killing is faster and sometimes I can't even get a shot in but, still harvest.![]()
Don't change it back
We will get decent money for our work and be able to afford new 150K weapons (yep seen pistols going for that with the NEW adv. blaster components. Gee how much work was that!!!. Putting down a heavy harvester and then complaining about our costs :smileymad
. People willing to work with me I work with them period, but I don't give my work away and I don't expect them to either.
AGREE agree agree agree
I am not nor have I ever whined about this game. IMHO those that do not like it -
A. Dislike social interaction. By golly, they may have to actually be part of a group. They are easy to spot in a group, as they do their thing and don't pay freaking attention or help the group. /disband, see ya, have a nice day. Oh, the lizard ate you, too bad, next time, try helping us shoot it.
B. Dislike having to work for a living. Yes you have to check harvestors. Yes, to harvest any decent amount of hides, you must kill a large amount of creatures, not just one. Yes, you must actually leave the confines of a city now and then to find stuff. And my favorite - "I am new (wearing armor and not the newbie clothes, holding a scout blaster) can you help me??" I treat all beggars the same, get a job.
C. Have no patience. No, you can't be Uber in a week, or two, or three. This ain't EQ. Skill points are capped for a reason, you can't be good in all things, deal with it.
D. Have no concept of real life. Ok, I can let the teeners slide, they will learn and this game may actually help them learn how real life works. You deal with people, sell goods for what they are worth, buy things that you need to live, barter, trade, make alliances, talk, listen, work hard, and maybe you get farther along in life.
E. And finally, my favorite. That's not fair. No kidding.Nowhere in the game does it saythings will be fair, or right, or just, or perfect. Deal with
Ooops, sry, power blip made PC act odd... did not mean to post twice, stupid stuff...
to finish..
whing and play the game withing the rules. If you don't wanna, move on out, more room for me.

Guys,
While I don't totally disagree with you, there does need to be something said for the casual player who doesn't have time to find a group.
I've become a casual player (at least on weeknights now) and if I wasn't a PA leader, I'd be really, really hurting.Changing back the harvesting levels for solos to what they were before is important to a wide swath of players of the game.
Oh, and by the way - I hope you wore you asbestos underpants. This thread is going to get flamed to hell and back. ![]()

Total agreement. While I undwerstand some people liked it the way it was before, I prefer the harvest reduction.
For the first two months of this game, I almost never saw smiths posting WTB threads for hides and meat. Now they are, which makes us more valuable.
- I've been on Dantooine hunting Huurton. I get an average of 30 hides per kill.
- I have about 3000 hides on my person simply by hunting that one type of animal for about6 hours.
- I agree that the harvest is reduced, but I'm certainly not hurting that bad from the reduction.
- I see we are not in consensus regarding the issue, so I will float the item down on the Issues list (it is currently the top element, and apparently it should not be).
- The current State of the Profession is available via my signature.
Ok,
I am a team player. I'm in a team of elites where the only other people that can harvest are creature handlers and a BH. Our little team of Antarian Rangers can kill more stuff in one battle than any other team I've seen in Starsider because we all know exactly our roles and how to react, and we're all sacrifice for the benefit of the group. My role was to get all the meat. With group harvest reductions I lost between 2 and 3 units of meat per large animal kill by dropping Ranger and grabbing marksman and BH pistol line, and now I can fight in PvP much better too, instead of having half my skillshad no role inPvP, which we do a lot of.
I know how an economy works, IRL I'm an entrepreneur.
Realism: An animal the size of a deer gives 1/3 the meat or more than an animal the size of a Wooly Mammoth. My best pull off a deer was 140 pounds of venison, my best (and only) off a moose was 500. But, game's aren't realistic anyway, heheheh, I just wish they were.
Hating groups: I love my team and any group I get along with and the most fun in the game is when a team accomplishes a mission together. However, the other fun in the game and where I made my loot was to simply range solo and hunt and harvest. I can still do this with my Master Scout abilities, not like I ever used Ranger traps anyway, just can't rely on it for income. But, whatever, it's just a game.
Just thought I'd answer this so you can see the changes aren't being criticized by unrealistic, clueless anti-social, anti-team player people who want to solo everything in the game.
If we get to use traps on player pets and some cool stuff comes out I'll switch back. I never whined, just put up my opinions. With the changes it wasn't fun, this game is only for fun, so I found something more fun. If I was concerned enough about a video game I have no control over to whine about it I'd simply stop playing cuz if I got to that point I think I'd be a little out of it.
Happy Hunting!

Without a doubt, harvesting has never been in the spotlight this much before. I think that isa wonderful thing! People are beginning to realize that it takes some serious time to come up with those 3k stacks of hide. When we sell our wares, we are pricing for a) our time investment, b) personal risk, c) travel costs, and d) expenses. Now, more than ever, people are seeing that for some of us, it wasn't just "stuff" we collected while doing our daily routine. Two cheers for raised awareness!
Read through all the detailed threads -- some are quite eloquent. Have you learned something new about crafting? Seeing that their costs are a bit more than the credits they pay for resources is a good thing. Two more cheers for raised awareness!
That being said, I'm a casual player -- 2-3 hours on weeknights. I have to be able to solo. I'm blessed with friends I can group with, but sometimes the travel time, costs, etc, just means it isn't worth it that particular evening. However, I like multi-harvests. There has to be a middle ground, right?
I've seen a number of fixes suggested and I've compiled a few things I'd like to see changed. Yep, I'm going to list them ![]()
1) Clothing needs to decay. Right now, tailors are concerned with quantity, not quality. They have many issues with a market limited by the "buy it once, never buy it again" mentality. Once your duster decays, you'll start looking for higher quality items and tailors will feel much better about the viability of their craft.
2) The hidden harvesting nerf (and the percent is debated) needs to be reversed. Its very appropriate to get a lower percentage of organics when multiple scouts are harvesting, but solo?
3) The group options have to be fixed. This is my pet project, I admit, but it ties into the harvesting changes beautifully. While they are fixing the bugs (pets count against harvesting amounts, overall loot is reduced, notify is not working), why not add a toggle group harvest on or off? If on, the reduction kicks in. If off, harvesting totals are solo level. Give the group a choice -- no one but playerx wants to harvest, turn group harvest off.
Star Wars is attempting to appeal to a wide audience.Very wide: PvP, PvE, Solo, Group, Casual, Power, Combatant, Noncombatant, etc. This is one of the things that makes this game so appealing, yet causes a huge pile of trouble on a day to day basis. It is going to take some time to get all the issues ironed out.
I think our best course is to continue debating these issues -- and this forum is just wonderful at it, by the way. Compromises will emerge, just remember it is impossible to make everyone happy. No matter what you do, someone, somewhereis going to be upset.
I'm not too happy about but the reduction specially the harvesting bonus, but I just have to deal with it and take the good which can from harvesting less. Now I sell my hide/bone/meat for much higher prices and still sell fast on the bazaar. I actually make a little more money now. There is now a lot less bone/hide/meat in the market, which in the long term will raise prices for weapons/armor/homes/meds/food ect.. Also now with the reduction I use 50 percent less traps now. I don't throw up my nice high tech camp as much oh well. Anyway as an established player with a fat bank and account and great support of my PA I'll deal with what's going on with all the changes. But who is going to hurt the most from this are the new players and really casual casually players IMHO (how many hours do you have to play to be a casual player? ). I remember how hard it was for me when I first started playing to make any cash, and afford a good weapon. I though a 1000c was a lot. How are they going to afford those weapons and armor ect with the reduced payout? how are they going to advance in the ranger profession with increased points required for new skills? I hope this does come off as a flame just posting my thoughts..
I agree that the lair missions needed to be slowed down/toughened up. As to the harvesting decrease, there are good and bad parts to it. It makes our commodities, and therefore us, more valuable. On the downside, though, high prices for hide, bone, and meat only really hurts the casual gamers, and the poorer crafters who haven't hit master yet. It also gives the master crafters a bright, flaming torch to wield when they raise their prices.
What really annoys me is that many Rangers use the argument of 'credits' to back how good this is. To put it bluntly: I am a Ranger. I don't give two craps about money as long as I have/had enough to put gear on my back. If wealth is what drives you, perhaps Ranger is not the profession for you. Maybe you'd be more happy as a merchant.

couple of points...
- If I can't find a group while I'm online, what would be the point?
- Yes I've advertised. I'm on Eclipse, many are asleep when I log in.
- I don't really have the time or inclination to jump servers.
- My friends are on Eclipse - they like missions and don't all harvest: the group I do get (when they are ready to) doesn't always do critter missions.
- Movement and coordination of harvesting (to max stats on what gets harvested) is far more difficult in a group.
- Most people I know or contact for this seem to have a real problem going beyond 2.5km from a city. (Why is that? really annoying...
) - Right now, low-end critters are more efficient. I have been getting Exp missions for Krahbu and hunt Durni,Gubber and Bagerset and I travel lookin for them. Crazed Durni yield as much meat and hide as the others and I can drop a lair of 30 in 5-10 minutes. Krahbu and Bagerset (much larger critters)take 20+.
- I need a team of pro.s to max harvest. Every group I have been in I scream my brains out how to maximize the number of critters. There is always a few that are clueless and we loose potential harvest from guys that just kill the lair as fast as possible.
- The few runs I have done that include harvestable critters in a group the TOTAL harvested by the 3 of us that were harvesting was less then my previous run by my self on same critter (Bagersets). The difference was ALARMING.
I understand your sentiments in principal, and don't fault you in any way. I like exploration and solitude. I like socializing too. It's just right now, something is "odd" with harvesting. I'd prefer to choose my way depending on conditions and availability of help. FORCING me to find a group... I didn't sign up for this, sorry, it's just not going to work for me. I say make BOTH work so I can choose to when my friends are on and solo when they are not please. I don't feel like sitting in the cantina waiting all nightfor them. If the game is worthless w/o a group... I'll go play BF1942... you can do both there.
I'm not in EQ or AC or DAoC or any of the other "Guilds are God" games for a reason... What group was Han Solo in?
Ditto. Just because SOE is trying to force a grouping game on us soloers with little free time to play doesn't mean that we're just going to buckle under and start panhandling for group handouts.
I'm a strict soloer. It's what I imagined the ranger as being and it's how I like my playing style. I don't really care for having to wait for a bunch of people to get their acts together so we can emphasize getting creds over harvests.
I like being out alone, no one for miles, running across the terrain, exploring, being able to pick and choose my prey, and being able to make a living off that. It's harder to do that now. As a master ranger, I should be able to get a larger harvest than I do now. With the resource increases to camps, that's less material to sell. I don't even count camo kits as taking up my resources since I don't use them at all.
Sorry, I only half agree with you. I do like and agree with the harvest changes for groups. I even think that the reduction should still be in place if you are using pets. They are just like groups, dealing more damage and killing things faster.
But, there should be no reduction for soloing. It's slow and hard, and thats how it was before the change. Slow and hard. But I could log on for an hour and go kill some lairs and get some hides, get some xp, and have some fun.
As Delta said, this game is supposed to support the casual player. When it was in Development, they said it WOULD NOT be like EQ, and you could be on for an hour or two, and actually accomplish stuff, solo. The game would not make you group. That is the reason I left EQ. Not because I'm antisocial, becuase at level 20, I couldn't do anything in the game with out grouping. I was a casual player and it took an hour just to get in a pick up group. I didn't level for 6 months because of this. So I quit.
Just return the previous harvesting for SOLO ONLY.
