Thread: How Many Rangers Hunt in RL?

Arecent post got me thinking... How many of us Rangers hunt in real life? Personally, been running with my Father and Grandfather since a very young age. Hunted and trapped in Northern Alberta for 25 over twenty-five years. Hell, my Grandfather at the age of 85 still maintains an active, albeit small scale, trap line to this day. Whitetail deerare by far my game of choice. The recent over population of this species has led to additional tags issued by the Provincial Gov't. That's a far cry from years ago when certain zones required draw for whitetail. Anyway.. I look forward to your response!

Not sure if this is what could be considered a "politically incorrect" topic. If I've offended anyone, I apologize in advance.

Calculus,

That is hilarious. I'm six hours and thirty-six minutes away from starting a week's vacation where all I'm doing is camping and fishing! Everything is packed. Just waiting to punch that clock...

Closest i've been to hunting in rl is hitting squirrels with a 22 pellet gun (or whatever it was called). Pretty sure hunting itself is not politically incorrect, i think its the gun ownership some people get worked up about (with some very valid arguments).

Actually, there was that time i went hunting on Yavin for some....oh crap, mixing up real life with that 'other' real life again!

I've done a bunch of hunting. Bird (pheasant hunting is awesome), deer and bear. Never got a bear, but I took down a buck with my pops a few years back. Haven't gone in a while, but my dad just picked up a piece of property with a WHOLE lot of hunt-able acreage, so I'll probably go hunting next season.

I also fish when I can, which is pretty infrequently now.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

I hate camping. I've never hunted yet. And im not an outdoorsman. But in game i'm all these things. Something about being able to roleplay a person you'd like to be.

I don't hunt. But I do like to camp, fish, skydive, snowboard, boating.

Now if I could just find that snow on Tatooine and skydive in.......

I've been hunting for the past 25 years, ever since I was 8. I started out raccoon hunting with my grandad and whitetail deer with my dad. I've always been a big fan of the outdoors and camping-turning more recently to rock-climbing and mountaineering. Whitetails are still my favorite chase. I've gone from shotgunning to compound bow, and have recently taken up primative bow.

Mostly deer hunting (several time with a bow). Fish too... Does golfing count as a walk in the woods? Used to do lots and lots of 4-wheeling, although sense I moved to the city I switched out for a car. Just not the same hunting with a Mustang so it's now only when friends go out and hunt, I go with them.

Another thing we used to do (not much any more) was camp a few days in Smoky Mountain National Park and trace a bit of the Appleachian Trail.

I dont hunt in RL, at least not with a gun. I dont think hunting for my keys in the bottom of my purse counts as sport either. I like to take photographs of wildlife. In game thought is definitly a different story. I can't get enough killing and skinning to satisfy me.

I've also done a fair bit of camping. I've done REAL camping down in Georgia in the summer (going in with no tent, no real food(dried food only) and only a water filter and Nalgene bottle). We ate crawdads for the most part, except the one day I managed to trap a rabbit.

I've also hiked sections of the AT-- the first 50 miles or so from the southern end and about 20 miles in or around Upstate NY. I'm starting this summer to do the tallest mountains in NY...Climb each in a day, camp up top, return the next morning, that sort of thing.

Im 33 years old from the north east and my Dad was/is a big deer hunter.

He never really thought I was interested and never taught me how to hunt.

So a message to all you fathers out there.

When you ask your kid if he wants to go hunting when he's 16 and he says no, keep asking.

I was/am deadly accurate with all forms of archery.

My favorite is the recurve bow, takes more skill.

My dad never let me practice too much with his compund bow because I kept pushing arrow after arrow out the back side of the target and kept messing up his arrows!
