Thread: Ranger soloing tactics?
I'm a casual gamer and often it's easier soloing as a Ranger. Found its difficult to find "good" groups, not the "we're running around like headless chickens" ones. I'm relatively new to all of this and want to make sure I'm maximizing my hunting potential. Novice Rifleman for most hunting (feel this is closer to RL) and 2H sword specialist for the "in your face wet work". Using mindshot/headshot with maskscent and some traps. Would like to know what the "experienced" Rangers tactics are. Any othertechniques/traps ... etcyou use regularly? All of us "learners" could benefit from some wisdom.
Playing on Naritus primarily hunting on Tat, but have credits to travel. If anyone ever needs another group member, send me a /tell. It's nice to huntwith organized people.

"The only reason I didn't kill it was it killed me first" LOL
Although I'm just shy of Master Scout, and not yet a Ranger...
For the bigger game that has the ability to hurt me bad, I use the too-expensive Adhesive Mesh, coupled with a bleed shot and a few leg shots (I'm a Carbineer)... rinse and repeat until dead.
For smaller game, the Noisemaker works just fine, again followedup with a bleed shot and leg shots.
I too play on Naritus, mostly Talus and just recently ventured on to Naboo...
I solo most of the time, and when I don't I have one other person (master CH) and we roam the planet killing things. but the soloing, I do just as adventure, I kill what I want, and have little problems (creatures that is).
I am pistoleer, so I normally lead off with health shot and when they get too close, I warning shot them away from me and just ping pong em back and forth until they are dead. Not too hard really.
Look me up if you want to hunt (the CH and I make a very good team, we know what to do, when to do it). Under the name of Kempel.
pistoleer version II:
Tranq dart , healthshot2, bodyshot body shot, warningshot, bodyshot, rinse repeat until one of us is dead.
Any tips for handling the "bring a friend" groups. Handling the loner animals not too difficult. I've found that if I use threaten or warning shot thetarget will run away but the rest of the group aggros.
Thx for the invite Kempel, I'll definitely look you up sometime.

Find a mob that does not deathblow. Then fight until you are knocked unconsious. Build a camp for 20 minutes then finish the mob off.
Okay I exagerted the melee situation, but the situation is as bad as the picture implys.
Actually, there have been times where I will die on purpose just to get the huge HAM battle wounds just to run out and set up a camp to heal in.
fully healed in a camp gets much less experience than if you are all banged up, so I'll die on purpose sometimes. (only when solo).
Well, if you are going to Solo, invest a few points into Creature Handler and get youself a nice CL 15 tank. With a little creativity you can train it in all the useful commands and still not have too many skill points invested in CH. Not only do you get something that will take damage, but you can group with it to get the "Grouping XP" Bonus.
If you have Novice Medic, then Stim B's are just as good for healing pets as PetStim A's.
BTW, I too am wondering the Galaxy of Naritus. (Mostly in the evenings Pacific time)

You don't actually need to get CH to have a CL 15 tank. Go find a Master CH, or a decent CH, and buy one off of them. Have them train all the commands (group and trick are important ones), and you'll have your very own tank, w/out the need to buy skill points.
I heard nasty rumors, that Stim B's can't be used by novice medic anymore, cause the medical use is higher.
Well, I was using Stim B's with only Novice Medic last night.
As for doing CH yourself. Sure you can get someone else to train your pet, but its more fun doing yourself. And 17.5k scouting XP is chump change for a Ranger
That is why you just get your own CL15 pet, then later when you need the skill points, you can still use it when you sell back CH.

You already have a good list, but since becoming and ranger my favorite trap is the Phoneciana (not sure about the spelling) Dart. It tranquilizes even large aggressive creatures and allow three to four shots before the creature recovers enough to come at you again. I use both a rifle and a pistol. I first and foremost use maskscent, then use P dart, shoot twice throw one of the two mesh entangling darts (this knocks down their close quarters fighting once they get free of the darts effects. Then I shoot twice again and if I have time I throw a second dart (this is for really large and powerful animals) shoot twice and throw the spur (it blinds them and makes all their attacks less effective for a short while). By the end of this have usually either killed the beast or am at the point where I do away with them fairly shortly.
Of course all this relies on the traps working, which is major problem since it doesn't seem to improve as you go up in skill levels. In fact it actually seems to get worse. (Oh well!).
If it is a particularly difficult animal I will usually use my Greater Sludge Panther as well. I feel CH and Ranger go very very well together. My cat has saved me several times in very difficult situations, especially with very dangerous creatures and one or more of my traps have not worked. You really need and equalizer in these situations, believe me.

On the "bring a friend groups" I pretty much get labelled as the "CC" (crowd control), we try to focus on just one group, but I warning shot all the others away and then focus on the main enemy.
Takes a bit of time to get it down, but once you do, it's a very nice tactic/feature.
Forwhite/yellow consolo mobs:
- Health Shot 2
- Body Shot 2
- Body Shot 2

- Stand, run, regular attacks mixed with Warning Shot and Body Shot 2/normal attacks as needed.
