Thread: FEEDBACK NEEDED: Future Ranger Doids

Hey guys,

Gron_DM has been asking what possible future ranger related droids or droid functions you would like to see. He says "no idea is too large or too small, too specific or too general", so basically brainstorm about what you would like to see and post them here.

Some pointers:

- The Ranger role may change in the future: Be carefull not to suggest functions that will hinder our development or become redundant at a later date.

- Droids can be a blessing or a curse: Some ranger like them, some dont, suggest why you supporteither side.

My first idea was something along the lines of an organic buff. We are creature hunters at the moment, and i think even if our primary roles shifts completely (stealth etc) we will still have hunting functions. In this regard i suggested a droid which would sort of 'refine' any organic you put into it giving it a buff in stat value. For instance, i gather 10k tat avian (hehe) i then place it into my droid refiner and bingo! the values are increased by 20%. This 20% would be calculated byusing my harvesting level and the droid values.

EDIT: The droid would be Novice Ranger Certified (subject to change)

Obviously just a random idea but definatly something that wouldnt become redundant, would need me to take it into combat with me (i personally dont enjoy fighting along side droids) and would lean towards the gathering aspect of ranger.

Id realy apreciate any feedback and ideas you can give Gron_DM on this topic.

Cheers guys.

I like the idea of the oft mentioned droid module to assist with tracking (i.e. longer range for tracking).

Well for future thinking I'd like a droid Kreetle. If stealth is ever implemented I want to make sure no one can sneak up on me. If they can't droidatize(word? Doubt it, but it has a nice ring to it) Kreetles then how about a Kreetle storage module? Pop down a camp and let loose the Kreetle Watchbugs from your trusty Trashcan 'o Rangering.

I suppose Rasps could be substituted for Kreetles, but I say let the Nemoidian Bird Cage be used for them, it gives the Master Artisans something else to pawn off.

Hydra

Fixed my craptacular spelling.

I hate droids for the fact that they are slow and sometimes when you kill something and tell your droid to harvest, kill something else and tell it to harvest that, it skips the 1st body if it hasnt harvested it yet. So maybe add a droid queue or speed enhancements to harvesting droids.

Birth-control droid: park it outside the lair and it emits some sort of sonic pulse that keeps the critters inside from getting busy, which means less babies and more harvests. Durnies and kreetles would be more resistant than other creatures.

Get-it-on-droid: park it ouside a lair and it puts on some sweet, sweet music, which means more babies -- using this near a durni or kreetle lair will probably crash the server.

Winnebago (tm) droid- this droid would set up a camp for you. Could be combined with other droid modules to specify which type of camp - for example, through in a food crafting unit and a medical unit, it's a doctor's camp. Throw in a mission unit and it has a mission terminal, etc... (well, we might push for a mission unit - see below).

Milking droid - self-explanatory, but maybe with some cool animation and slurping sound effects. Different height droids would have to be used for different height creatures - like if you tell an r2 unit to milk a faamba it would have to jump and hang on.

Harpoondroid - like a more permanent adhesive mesh. If it works the creature is tethered in place; if not the creature gets to drag the creature around while the droid leaves skid marks and makes high-pitched whining noises. Different from tank droid, which we already have, in that this would be useful for the kinds of things that we have no chance of trapping (or tanking with a droid).

Mission droid - could connect us to the bothan spynet and get hunting missions (low-payout) that would give us missions for a wider range of critters than are now on the terminals.

Eopie droid - it would alter the visible spectrum so you and your group looked like herd of wandering eopies. You would still be atackable, but who really bothers shooting eopies. Oh, and if you attacked or if someone pointed their miliking droid at you, you would be discovered.

Answer droid - I don't know about you guys, but I get asked a lot of questions. You could have this droid answer all of your tells for you by doing a knowledge base search based on the content of the tells. If it returned no results, it wouldact like an eyes of mesra.

A delivery droid - this droid could delivergoods or services to people from afar. No more having toenter a city.

An anti-spam droid -- if someone repeats something more than two times in a thirty second interval, it automatically adds them to your addignore list. Very useful for the urban ranger.

An organic survey droid -- ok, I'm serious about this one (no really) - this droid could get the names *and* stats of creature harvestable resources on a given planet. This would save a lot of time. It wouldn't be able to sample or harvest, just get the stats, and you'd have to be a high-level ranger to use it.

A thumper droid -- think Dune (tm) here -- you could take this droid into one of the many now desolate areas (ie., our former hunting grounds), and have it jump start the spawns. One of these droids would be the equivalent of telling the server - hey master ranger here who wants to hunt in this area, could I please get some spawns.

ok - I'll try to think of more...

Hmm, we already have harvesting and trapping droids, so what about a droid to help with that often used skill /rescue?

Maybe some sort of decoy droid/module. Activate your R3's decoy unit and itproduces a holographic image nearby which draws the aggro! This would give us a bit more time before the aggro then focused on us. Of course this would require Advanced Trapping I (Danger Recognition) though.

I would like to seethe rangers get missions similar to the BH profession... where we have to hunt down a Specific creature thats on the planet.

I can go on about this, but if they do implement this they can a Bloodhound droid. I would perfer to see it as a creature skill we can teach to our pets. Put in our area track tree.

Just for fun I picked up Novice CH and a pet dog (level 12), that follows me on my hunts, Had to store it because I could not mask scent it.

I love my droids so im serious about these. How i present them isnt.

Actually a milking droid isnt a bad idea. So far we can harvest the three main organics but not milk a creature like that. Being able to have a droid milk a creature would lower the chances of it getting spooked. Then add a pasteur module to increase the milk harvest since your adding some preservatives to it or to change it from wild milk to domesticated milk.

An area of affect harvest droid. A droid that automatically harvests from all corpses in area

Change the trap launcher to be able to launch multiple traps when loaded with multiple modules. Some rangers like myself actually use our traps and we have combos we like to use. The droids are limited to one type.

An auto-forage module that drops what it finds into its own storage compartment. Foraging should have a meaning soon and it would be nice to be sitting in a camp and tell your droid to find bait or just general wedding cakes and foraged items

A loot module. So not only does your droid harvest from a creature it also loots from the target as well. This would work on dead (or for parents with kids who watch them play) or sleeping NPC's.

A fishing module either go with a couple ideas. R3 goes into the water and uses his electric shot to kill all the fish in a certain radius. So you catch 10-15 at a shot. Or R3 goes into the water and uses a built in net to catch them.

I like the creature harvest survey droid idea.

Also, I would also love a droid that auto-harvests without being told to harvest each individual corpse. "Just set it and forget it". Then base the harvest rating on a precentage of the owner's skill, upto maybe 110% of the owner's skill - no more novice scouts harvesting huge amounts.I thought about leaving out any experimentation lines, but crafters usually like items that can be experiemented on to make a difference between the best Artisian and the pretenders.

Last idea is a recon droid. Something that could be controlled remotely by the ranger to scout out an enemy installation or just to scout the area. Could be useful in base raids and for checking out the area when defending. I'm thinkingof some kind of flying droid that could go over walls and buildings, but couldn't go into buildings or caves.

Squirrel it looks like you just came up with a good way to justify our blue glowies enhanced area-track droid. Maybe limit the module to flying droids like Probots or DZ-70's. Or even, and this is a stretch, make it disposable like a BH droid to keep the DE's with some renewable income.
