Its been discussed but if anyone got traps against npc's it would/should be Bounty Hunters.
This is actually the argument that is always listed as one of the fears... BHs traditionally felt that this was a step into their domain. It's never actually been stated that the traps would go to BHs.
As far as I'm concerned traps should be made to work on NPCs and PCs.
On the BH front, since BH will no longer require the trapping line this really isn't a valid argument. Because their SP requirements have changed they can now choose to take the trapping line from scout if they wish to use traps for Bounty Hunting purposes. I've always felt that since BH lost Trapping as a requirement, the "Bounty Hunters should be trapping Humanoids not Rangers/Scouts" argument would be the same as if Rangers said BH weapon skills shouldn't work against creatures because Rangers and Scouts are creature hunters. Or like artisans saying no player without the surveying line be allowed to place a harvestor.
The plain and simple fact is that Traps need to gain a stronger combat value both in PvE (creature and NPC) AND PvP. Currently there are too many things gating Ranger out of their own role, as far as I'm concerned this is one of the front lines to making ranger what it should be.
Beside that, there's enough to point to this logically within the system, and nothing to support the feeling that they shouldn't behave this way.

True... but as you said before why would I throw a trap when I can do specials faster with my rifle? I hunt critters. I dont trap them. I kill emUsing a trap on an npc or player doesnt make sense to me as a Ranger. So, if Bounty Hunters were to get traps they would indeed need to pick the trapping line back up.
Because not every Ranger uses rifles.. There are those who use Pistols, VK's or even Carbines. And maybe there are even those who use creatures in stead.
To their gameplay, it can be a real advantage (or even a life safer) to be able to throw traps at NPC toons/PCs

I personally am of the mind that locking a skill into such specific circumstances as they have done with trapping is stupid. The only harm I see in making traps usuable on everything is rooting/snaring. I personally don't see this as that big a problem, though, as we are spending a lot of skill points to get the ability (as long as we get adecent miss rate on players, especially at lower levels).

Ok, BHs have no right to claim any trapping abilities now. They whined, sniveled, screamed, begged and cried and got their wish, they got out of mastering Scout. No more camping or trapping for them - D'oh.
No Scout trapping = no trapping skills. Tough crap to them, they got their wish, suck it up and deal with it. They can spend their extra points on combat stuff, they need it.
/agree wholeheartedly. They don't want the the trapping pre-req they can't ask for trapping to work for them without it.
Rangers have no business trapping NPCs or Players. We are creature hunters. Hell, half our traps don't work as intended anyhow, why should we expect them to work on "people"? I think we should be able to traps creature pets in PvP, and I also think our traps should work as intended.
As this is an old argument that has been beaten into the ground already, nuff said.
/disagree. No reason to keep Rangers from trapping NPCs ...it just doesn't make sense. Though in the past I'd be willing to wait and see, right now I think we've really gotta fight for this as a balance against our coming SP requirements.
