Thread: Harvesting bonuses, a couple of weeks in.

Something I'm wondering about, I thought it might be interesting to get some general feedback with:

  • Has the grouping bonus encouraged you to group more?

  • If you are a master ranger, do you only feel inclined to group with other master rangers?

My experiences are inclining me to only group with master rangers. Particularly after hunting with a 4x4x scout, we were hunting mountain squills on Tatooine. Both harvested bone, he got around 115 units per corpse, and I was getting 145 units per corpse. So the difference between a 4x4x scout and a master ranger (in a group) was about 30 units of resource. So it seems to me, the skill point investment issue is still far from resolved, despite them givingmaser rangersa +60 harvesting mod.

Edit:
Here's a little arithmetic to show what I'm talking about. Let's compare ratio's of harvesting amounts, versus ratio's of modified harvesting skills.

115 units / 145 units = 0.79

(+45*1.4) / (+160*1.2) = +63 / +192 = 0.32
(1.4 is the 40% increase, and 1.2 is the 20% increase)

So, while the scout's modified harvesting skill is only 32% of a master rangers modified harvesting skill, the scout can harvest 79% of what the master ranger can harvest. This is by no means proportional.

I can't say I've hunted much recently because of r/l getting in the way (tsk) but I have to say that in the times I have gone out, I've definitely tried to hunt with another master ranger from amongst those I know.

After all, if I'm going out there, I might as well try all I can to maximise the return. Doesn't mean I don't hunt alone or in other groups, but if I'm on a job, I'll definitely try to find another MR.

For me, mostly due to RL work and my sporadic play style, I tend to hunt alone (grouped w/my cat) no matter what. I'm definitely a more casual player and tend not to log on for marathon 4-6 hour or more play sessions... I'm usually good for a couple hours, and that's about all. Between the new MRanger increased harvest mod and some decent veghash, I'm certainly not struggling for credits (although my recent bout of trying to collect all the vet reward minis has finally found me a place to spend all those credits I was sitting on with nothing to spend them on! I hit the peak of geekdom - I'm collecting SW Figures in a GAME about Star Wars. I can hear my wife groaning even as I think that, heheh :smileyvery-happy

That said, I do look forward to hunting with Ditah and some of the other Rangers in xXx one of these days, more to get to know them as the new guy in the guild than for any benefit from group harvest. The group bonus in that case will be a nice perk, but certainly won't be the actual incentive to group in the first place. THAT is from my desire to get to know the folks in the guild and figure out who to bug to get stuff made (like all those loot schematics, more weapons, even more weapons, even MORE weapons...)

I have hunted far more in a group because of this change. And when i hunt solo i do it in a solo group to encourage the 15 per lair pops. I like the change because i can see that im pulling far more then I used to.

The bonus isn't applied to the harvesting modifier, it's applied to the actual harvested amount. If you want to test whether the ratios stay consistant, use (1+harvesting mod). Even then, the ratio is obviously going to change, because you're multiplying by two different numbers. I think this is all beside the point though. Regardless of how much your groupmates are harvesting, you still harvested more when grouped, and therefore benifited from being grouped.

I calculated it like that because from what calculations have been done in the past, it seems clear that the any such bonus would be a common factor in the formula. Therefore such a factor can be commutated.

There have definitely been more ranger hunting parties on Naritus since the harvesting changes came in, and I love it. The RIN has been buzzing lately and I have had tons of fun out hunting with other rangers on the server. I feel like they're my new unofficial guild. I have hunted with some randoms and it really hasn't been fun at all because lots of them want to get tons of missions and ride bikes from one to the next. Screw that. Give me two feet, some good friends, and /areatrack and I'm fine... oh, and toss mot' and his uber camping abilities in there too.

I have definitely enjoyed hunting in groups now. I happen to be in a guild that has another master and a partial in it. I absolutlely think the new changes rock when grouped with another master. We can chew through huge amounts of resources in no time flat.

Grouping with master rangers, or no?

No grouping with scouts when im out in a hunting party. Im the only Master Ranger in my guild. I havent hunted with our tracker yet. I've been helping my wife level Rifle. So i've seen the difference in harvesting when im within 64m of her avatar and farther away. Shes just a 1/0/0/0 scout.

There are a few rangers that I group with regularly.

2 of them are master rangers and 2 of them are non-master rangers. I am also currently not a master ranger (but that's gonna change soon!)

I find that the master rangers don't mind grouping with me and that I don't mind grouping with other non-master rangers. I like the harvesting bonus, especially when compared to a penalty. However, the most important part for me is the play style of rangers. I love hunting with them because of how they hunt. Couple that with a bonus and I think we're all happy. I really don't think al-djinn'i cares whether or not I give him a 30% or a 40% harvesting bonus... although, you'd have to ask him.

  • Has the grouping bonus encouraged you to group more? Yep. If I am hunting for my guild, I try to drag the huntee along with me.

  • If you are a master ranger, do you only feel inclined to group with other master rangers? This is a bit of a loaded question. Of course anyone who hunts in a group is going to want a Master Ranger around. On the same note, people who hunt in groups are certainly going to appreciate the bonus that grouping with a Scout gives. I highly doubt there is anyone out there soloing (or not hunting at all) becuase all they could find was lowly Scout. Now, to answer your question, I usually only hunt with my guild, and i am the only active Ranger in it right now, so I don't get the choice of whether to hunt with another master Ranger or not.
