Thread: Let me clear something up
I have read many replies and it seems alot are taking it the wrong way.
First off, I love the class, I was 2 boxes away from Master Armorsmith and liked scouting so much I surrendered the skills and became a Ranger. I am happy with the class and the additions are extremely welcomed but appropriate enough to where I expect they should have been there anyway. So in this I see no big favor on SoE's part, they are simply finishing our class.
As for the scouting xp. It apparently has not come as easy for me as others. I asked for advice and tried it, still not fast at all. Now I heard they were raising it and was angered because I did not think it was needed. I became a Ranger knowing I needed "x" number of xp to train. Now I am told it will be raised. Meanwhile those who already maxed those lines get grandfathered in. IMO all current Rangers should be grandfathered in. Just a fairness issue.
Anyway, I am all for the class and the additions. I just am not happy with the xp increase at this point in the game. Too many people already past those boxes up. Those in the middle of them like me should not be pushed back. Sorry if you cannot understand that. I am very surprised not one other person is complaining about this. I have never felt so alone in my life on a message board, lol. Oh well, have to be the oddball at some point I guess.
I am one who believes that these posts do more to help the class than any other, especialy if you can throw in improvement ideas with the complaint.
As long as you do not belittle anyone for their posts or anyone from SWG, I do not think you are doing anything to worry about on these boards, no matter how much whining appears in your complaint.
Heh, I always love these "fair" posts in regards to grandfathering people. Fair to one person that is, you. You don't think it's fair that other people who have already mastered their professions should keep their boxes if the xp gets raised. You fail to realize that by being fair to simply one person (you), you continue to make it unfair that the profession is comparitively much easier to master than other professions. And if you're asking that all Master Rangers be reduced, that is unfair to me, as I have been capped at 100k xp, and would have over 500,000 scouting xp easily if I wasn't capped.
To sum it up, you don't let something continue to be "wrong" simply because you think it's unfair that other people earned the title before you.
Well, In the end, I still think the changes are good. Not that it will slow down becoming Master Rangers, as much as it will now lessen the "need" to grind Survival XP. I assume that any one working on Ranger would have at least one Weapon Skill at Level IV (Specialist.) With that you are in the 55 to 75 XP scouting per "easy" solo. So in the time it would take to make one box of both Wayfairing and Tracking you would also gain enough Trapping and Survail XP to get one box.
For example, In one "camp cycle" I should be able to make 1400 Scouting (20 creatures harvested) 500 Survival (one camp) and 700 trapping (one trap per creature) and take about a half hour, with Specialist. That would mean about 50 hours of playing for Tier IV. That is being very conservitive.
There is an underling issue that you can not be a "Pacfist Ranger/Scout." You must be a Hunter. And to be a Hunter you need combat skills. If you do not have any Combat Skills, then the Road to Ranger is going to be long and hard.

You have to add the word solo to list it's "Pacifist Solo Ranger/Scout", as I'm sure that if I wanted to play it that way, I could have easily still gotten to master ranger just by going out with one friend and letting him do allthe damage (which would increase his combat skills faster too). By pacifist, I guess we'd have to count throwing traps as something "pacifist-like". You'd have to not equip a weapon, stay beyond melee range and then judiciously throw traps to get to Master Ranger without gaining some combat skill (and nothave novice marksman as one of your skills, because you're probably still going to get some combat xp for throwing certain traps - maybe, I've never tried)
You know, now that I think about it,I might actually be upset about the scouting XP requirement increase...except that there are so many other more pressing issues in this game to get upset about. I can think of hundreds of issues that bother me much more, especially in otherprofessions,so that's probably why the XP nerf doesn't get my blood pressure up.
You're completely right that SOE isn't doing us any special favors by finishing our class. It's disappointing, frustrating, and sometimes infuriating that they didn't finishdesigning the gamebefore releasing it.However nothing can be done about that now.
I think we should choose our battles carefully, and protesting the scouting XP increase just doesn't seem productive to me. I'm sure there will be enough new andmore critical problems to sort out after the new abilities are live.

Saying all current rangers should be grandfathered in doesn't make things any more fair. It just puts you over on the "people who had it easy" side, while everyone who picks up ranger from here on in stay on the "people who have it harder" side. Any time there's a change made to the difficulty of a given task, somebody will have benefitted from completing the task prior to the change, while others who come later do not. It's unavoidable. If you grandfather in all current rangers, you'll end up giving the easier rate of advancement to someone who grabbed Novice Ranger right before the patch, while someone else who got that box a mere six hours later gets the harder requirements, and there's no qualitative difference between those two people. As that is just as unfair as the current plan (if you get the skill boxes before the patch, you're set), yet involves more complex coding, we're better off sticking with the current plan.
In summary: ANY change that makes requirements harder WILL mean that a line is drawn and people who come later have to do more than people who came earlier. What you are disguising as a plea for fairness merely amounts to "move the line a bit so I can be in the early group". The fact that you (like myself) are already in the middle of the ranger tree now doesn't accord you any greater privileges than someone who is equally motivated to be a ranger but just won't get their Novice Ranger box until next week.
Settle down everyone. We need to think about and welcome all ideas. The thing for me is, I'd rather be playing an unfinished professioninstead ofsitting around my real-lifehouse saying, "When the hell are they going to get this thing done! I'm going out of my mind!" Those beta bast*rds have been having all the fun. I'm glad I'm playing, and in a couple of years it will still be a work in progress. Just because the game is up and running, doesn't mean it is finished. We should know by now that NO web-based production is ever "done". It is always be a work in progress. The players of today will not be the players of tomorrow. They'll expect different things.
I feel that recent players don't appreciate all of the work that has gone into this game. Just the graphics alone are something to be praised. This staff has worked their asses off to get away from the standard D&D skill progression and try to make it work. There is room for improvement and I think they know that.
This game has been more than a couple of years in the making. Squashing bugs will take a little bit. Even finishing the original scope of the game may not be done yet. I can understand that.
On the other hand, don't think I'm sitting by and ignoring issues. Everyone's input is a great thing. I /bug stuff every chance I get. But they put in /bug so they could get feedback and fix stuff to our liking. Just be as kind and courteous as they are to us.
Rangers will be great, even past this next patch. Let's keep the feedback rolling, but keep in mind that the developers have a huge load on their hands. Their goal is to make this game great. Everything they do is to make this game the best it can be. When they are told that what they are doing is NOT the best for the game, it's a tough pill to swallow. We have to be patient with things like that.
My point. The game is what it is right now. It will change. Keep telling the devs what YOU want so it changes the wayYOU want. They will listen if we do it constructively.
Hope I meet a couple of you on the Kettemoor server.
I am a Master Ranger.
I actually was miffed to find out that getting XP will now be easier!
I wish I had not bought the game till next month.
I'm kinda upset that even though you new guys will have more XP you have to gain, you will have an easier time of it!
So dock me points, I don't care...
I currently have +19k Scouting Xp
+80k Trapping (capped)
+15600k Survival
Experience comes with experience folks, it's no big deal, you will get it, you will get there...now, it will just be easier to aquire and you have to get some more, you'll be OK, I promise...

I never implied you should lose your boxes! I am not talking about anyone losing anything here, but rather help those who already started Ranger with the current xp requirements KEEP those requirements. NOTHING is unfair to you, you are already Master! Not once did I imply you should lose anything. I am not one to cry nerf in these games, I rather see weakness made strong than strong made weak. Same applies here.
And I still cannot stomach a Master Ranger telling me the xp increase was needed, lol. If that is not a bias opinion I do not know what is.
As for our xp not being in line with other professions. I was an armorsmith. To get my top line I needed like 60k xp. I could get 700 of that from 1 chestpiece!
Many other professions require MUCH more xp, but they also GET MUCH MORE. Take pistoleer for example. Sure it requires a buttload of xp, but I can get 2000 xp on one solo kill easy! That same kill will give me a mere 300 scouting xp. It is all relative.
FWIW, consider that most who have mastered ranger, unless it is very recent have already capped scout XP long since. So even if you charge the masters full XP, and refund prentice XP and take away master if they are short (which would be fair), the vast majority would still qualify. And this having earned XP in a much less attractive class than the new, improved Ranger.
I am still working toward master myseslf, and probably won't make it before the patch (2.2.3.2 atm), and will almost certainly be affected. Though, the Wilderness changes would have made my life easier as I have almost 10k in artisan XP just from camps and traps [Note to self: Stop using Field Base for a 10 min camping trip
]
bah, ranger is the easiest class to master next to creature handler. They had to do something to make it more challenging. Hell, one tree you can max in an hour and the other you dont even have to be in game to level in it.....what did you expect?
(Just glad I got master before the fixes
)
