Has anyone ever questioned why we Rangers have an entirely separate...xp class for....CAMPING??????

This is the most grueling, boring, time-consuming, and utterly useless XP grind in SWG.

I understand a separate type of XP for trapping which could be expanded to include "Ranger Weapons" like bows, hunting knives, hand axes, crossbows, etc.

But CAMPING????????? What a frilling WASTE of a wholeskilltreein the middle ofwhat could potentially be the most interesting profession in the game.

DO NOT get me wrong; I love being able put up cool camps(which should allow a dancer/musician to heal BF imho), and my Twi toon looks absolutely stunning in a pair of shorts while she bends over to forage for worthless stuff, but these things need serious attention in a revamp before they are useful.

SIMPLE FIX: Scouting XP should count to fill in all of the non-trapping skill trees in scout/Ranger, just like all of the other elite combat classes which only need two types of XP: class specific xp for three trees, and combat xp for the fourth tree.

GID RID OF SURVIVAL XP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love being a Ranger, but im only keeping 4040 until Ranger gets a revamp that makes more sense for my favorite profession.

Second Chapter of a long post:

Wish list for a fun Ranger experience: beyond this seemingly simple fix to thexp.

1) Add poison/disease resistance mods and forageable ingrediant(s) for a ranger-made, p/d-reducing salve(s) to the survival/camping tree. (if survival xp is somehow defended, then it needs a new way for ranger to earn that xp, and this could be it)

2) Larger radius on Areatrack, maybe an extra 50m in each box up the tracking tree and a +300m for master ranger to extend our range to a max of 1000m.

3) Traps should be useful for putting states, attack/defense mods, and posture changeson PCs and NPCs. Trapping skill level could be checked against the state attack level of the target to see if they 'hit'.

4) Camoflage could hide faction affiliation from PCs and NPCs, even while SF, until camo is broken by check roll, or ranger initiates battle with a first strike. (this could put the icing and the candles on the cake for a sniper/ranger with /cover)

5) "Harvest All". I mean, why not? Maybe novice ranger could get to harvest up to two resources from a carcass, and master hunter box could give usharvest all. Simple enough.

I've only been in game a year, but my main toon is a Ranger, and has been since day one.Currently,Ranger in SWG is primarily a PvE profession, but we should get a 3k ham like anyone else that has to kill for a living. Maybe with some Ranger ONLY Weapons, then Ranger/CH/BE could be a fun and fulfilling template for those who only want to PVE.

BUT, manyof our skills have direct combat aplications that seemingly could and should be easily expanded upon, in a way to make Ranger a wonderful compliment to an Elite Combat Pro that wants to be effective in PvP and still be a Ranger.

I see Ranger filling that little area in the CU diagram between Croud Control and Healing. Our traps could have AoE state attacks that work like carbine croud control abilities, while having poison/diseaseREDUCTION salves (not cures) that work kinda like meditation works for TK. I envision traps like Sonic Pulse doing Warcry AoE, and Phecnacine darts doing Dizzy ona single target, then throw out a bunch ofBone Spursthat poke feet and cause a Posture Down AoE, followed by an Adhesive Mesh that tangles and KDs a single target. Flash Bombwould deliveran AoE Blind, Noise Maker wouldcause an AoE Stun, and the kicker: throw a Stink Bomb on a target and he/she smells so bad that close by NPCs take offense and attack, lol. How about a trap made out of foraged bugs that when thrown on a prone PC that causes him/her to get a bad case of ants-in-the-pants, effectively clearing and keeping him/her from cover or taking cover again for a while?

Obviously, a ranger's camo/stealth abilities need exploration, and I think a ranger could use /block as an effective way to bring up our defenses against attacks, maybe giving us a 1/4/4 rating in the new CU for attack/defense/croud control.

I don't mind paying the high SP cost for Ranger, but give us something to sink our teeth into, PLEASE. I mean, WOW, the possibilites of this profession!!!!!

We are the creature resource gatherers of the galaxy. If you don't have us, you don't have clothes, food,or armor for your precious, marketable-to-the-masses, new combat system. Leave us out and the whole thing crumbles around you.

Heed us; we are the farmers that are forgotten by the masses in the cities untilpeople startstarving because the farmers quit in order to find better ways to support their families.

I like a lot of what you posted, except that getting rid of survival experience. The reason why i disagree with this is that every other profession, for the most part (except crafting) deals specifically with two types of experience. You have your normal weapon experience, and your combat experience. The combat experience comes the slowest, but by the time you master profession X, you should have the experience in hand to get that tree.

The same goes with ranger, and scout for that matter. We have scouting, survival and trapping. Trapping is pretty obvious that can't go with survival or scouting, and scouting is used for two trees. To slow down the experience gain (which yes, mastering ranger is painfully easy and fast), survival experience comes into play. Even with survival, it's pretty easy to master, which IIRC you can do by fishing, crafting camps, or sitting in camps. So the solution?

Make a tent, near water (on the edge of it) and fish while in camp. Get bored of fishing, grind tents. I'm currently a 1/4/4/2 ranger right now (was a master at one point and remastering it now). I gained 3 boxes in ranger today, i was a 0/4/4/0 earlier. I plan to have 2/4/4/3 within 2-3 hours, if that - and by the end of the weekend, I'll have master easily.

Ranger seems hard to grind the first time around, but it's really simple - and fast the 2nd time around

Well, um.. dunno if its permanent but tonight on TC we found that scout xp had replaced survival xp on camps. Prolly a precursor for changing us into a CL profession but we shall see as yet.

New home of SWG Rangers!

One heck of a coincidence! haha

Careful what you wish for! hehe.

Those who aren't aware there is currently no Survival XP on TCEp3. Instead its all Scout XP as KaiRaene states. There's a bug where crafting still produces the wrong XP, but foraging and camping now grant Scout XP instead.

Go check it out and give it a test ride!

BTW: This is something that many people have requested in the past. Often times they recieved very unwelcome responses. Scouts and Rangers have long been proud of the Survival lines because they ARE challenging and they ARE a badge of honor. Players like myself, who camped through the whole tree, are proud of that accomplishment.

With the changes to CL for Scout and Ranger who knows what this will mean or how it will affect us. I think the cries of "oh heck no" are currently quelled by the implications of the CL change and the thought of getting a more appropriate combat role.

Wow, Now I can sit my hairy rear-end on the riverbank and "camp" my way up 3 trees now over several months. Watching the players walk by, whistle at the cute ones, growl at the smelly ones, wink at the responsive ones, Ah the life of a Ranger.

Sweet, power camping, the way of the future power gamer Rangers.

Have to admit I loved the camping bit of ranger, except for the 4th box, everything else i got on hunts, in between each mission i whipped out a tent. The first time i pulled out a field base the people in my group nearly crapped their livers out into the fire!!! (I was one of the first rangers on my server hehe)!

What really surprised me was on TCEP3 noticing that field bioscience was now tracking, I was going what the hell until someone told me it had changed ages ago!! Boy did i feel old!

But I have to say I did some foraging earlier and the fungus i foraged did seem to give me a good boost to my action and health regen rates. Of course, a guy in my group asked what i was doing, i said "I dropped my contact lens?". Never reveal the secrets of ranger or scout to outsiders!

Not a smart idea, as now 3 lines of ranger all depend on one form of XP. It will take longer to make Master, unless you are a dabbler and only wanted a couple lines (why I have no clue, not with the way health is figured).

I always figure that I am making out like a fat rat when I go hunting. I shoot the creature (weapon and combat xp). I harvest the creature (scout xp). I probably tossed a few traps (trap xp). Maybe I healed a buddy (medical xp). Then when the group gets tired, I pop a camp and craft more traps (survival xp doubled) and we heal.

What does a pure combat clown get - combat and weapon xp. That's all. I can technically work a couple of lines of FS at the same time (I have Luck - long story but easy to do). All my scout/survival/trap/medical xp goes into Luck while the combat/weapon xp is divided amongst reflex and combat. Granted, there was a spell there I was whacking NPCs for big XP and I have a ton more combat/weapon than senses, but I have 5 lines of that to fill and only the single line in senses.

I think the current TC5 situation is only temporary, the result of bugs. Don't count on it.
