Thread: Ranger Skill Points: Post CU

YOU WILL STILL BE ABLE TO MASTER YOUR ELITE COMBAT PROFESSION
You can have:
Master Ranger
Master Rifleman (or any combination or elite combat profession)
4 skill point waste
Note: This is not a post to support either side (same skill points/less) or even discuss the issue, its a post so people can link to it anytime someone asks about skill points. This is because a few people have asked for a post like this ehhe.
Ehm not entirely... According to CU, CH is also a elite combatprofession. Since that one has it;s base trees in scout already:
Master Ranger
Master Creature Handlers (2 trees from scout as base)
Rest: 51 sp
Guess we'll be seeing a lot more MRangers/MCH, or maybe not, since CH is still also one heck of a nerfed profession.
Come to think of it tough, I've seen in increase on CH's on FarStar...

I'm really temped to try that out.
One of my Daddies dear friends when I was young was a former Army Ranger, some times BH, and it was a rare sight to see anything in his freezer that he didn't kill him self. I never saw a bit of machismo in him, and I can't remember him ever doing or saying a thing thay indicated I was any diferrent than him because I was a girl. Saidly he died young, but he was still the coolest person I think I've ever met.

Although there has been not much in the way of 'feedback' regarding the skill point changes, the main point isthat with a level playing field (every profession requireing about the same skill points) they can go for across the board balance. It just means instead of saying that because one class has twice the skill points it must have to be twice as powerfull, they can just have it where, every profession is equal so power can balanced across evenly.
Obviously different professions have different roles so different types of 'power' but yeah basically, even skill point cost across the board means even power distribution across the board.
Well okay, but unless it's me, I think they've messed their sums up a little. Currently Master BH costs a huge 169 skill points, post revamp it'll just be 92. Similarly Master combat elites currently costs 92 skill points, but post revamp they'll go upto 106 skill points. So rather than balancing it, they've just turned the tables (which is not the first time they've used that type of thinking *cough*harvesting_bonus*cough*).

Nice anecdote ![]()
I wanted to try Ranger+BH a sometime ago when I was appointed "sheriff" of my town, however skill points didn't permit mastering of both, so I dumped the idea. I quite fancy it again. For myself, I'm starting to call myself a "Space Ranger", as I do go hunting in space, and observing ships, much as I would creatures. So being a ranger, pilot, and bounty hunter seems the ultimate hunting template, there's nothing you couldn't/wouldn't go after.
According to the combat "schematic" bounty hunter will be big in mitigation (plus I hope we still get the high-damage lightning canon), so that would be of use to us as rangers. Conversely, our inate tracking abilities would help our bounty hunter skills. So the two professions do have complimentary skills.
(Similarly which is why I like rifleman, with camoflauge and rifle concealment, we have complimentary skills geared to stealth, in the current system at least).

A lot of people want to scream that the new /cover steps on our toes. I say don't say a word. It will provide us leverage to get some sweet stuff when our vamp comes. That and Rifleman deserve to be snipers, the potential was there but some of the things were broken or just not implemented right.
And I've never heard anyone scream about getting +50 TN when grouped with a Master SL.
The new system gives the same skills in may trees. I like that. Look at the first 4 boxes of Rifles/Pistols/Carbines in Marksman.

This means I can't get any novice skills... I can't get Medic, which is a "must" for a Ranger, which often is without buffs.

Unless you're going to be healing other people the 'built in' stim-A / mini-bacta shot seems
to do a reasonable job in patching you up. So that'll be 15SP you're not tying up in novice medic.
You might have to alter your playstyle a little, shoot shoot heal shoot shoot heal sort of style,
but if it's a 'free heal' then fair do.
As for groups, it makes it all the more important to structure your group so it has enough healers
to cope with the damage your party will take, rather than the current trend which is to make yourself
largely invulnerable to damage and healers can go fish.
