Ok i hate to say this, but i need to make a poll heh. Yes i know, i know but honestly its important. I need to show the devs exactly how much negative impact the CU is going to have on ranger and why ranger needs their revamp asap.
Its going to be part of my report that im writing atm explaining why so many of us are pissed, upset that we didnt get any attention and how concerned we are about what is geing to happen to ranger between the end of the CU up until the ranger revamp hits.
So i put it to you:
In regards tothe CU and the information that has come out(or lack thereof),will you be dropping ranger?
Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?
Is it only temporary until the revamp?
Please answer truthfully about your current plans.
cheers, owen

Why are/arn'tyou dropping it? If Ikeep master Ranger, it's becuase Iam too stubborn to drop it, again. If I do drop skills, I will drop the Ranger skills I deem unnecessary/unuseful and pick up combat skills.
Is it only temporary until the revamp? Depends on the revamp...

Ill put my opinion out too:

If the ranger revamp is scheduled to go live more than one month after the CU goes live then most certainly yes. Will still have my tc toon.
Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?
Not worth the skill points, doesnt give any moderate benefits to the template, becomes a 140 skill point hole as soon asi hit an npc or player.
Is it only temporary until the revamp?
Of course, that is however, if the revamp delivers on addressing our primary issues. If not then i wont be in swg any longer.

You aren't going to like my response, Owen.
"In regards tothe CU and the information that has come out(or lack thereof),will you be dropping ranger?"
No, I will not drop ranger, but I might not re-master it (currently 4/3/4/4)
"Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?"
I am not dropping it again because I realize how much I do love Ranger (though I acknowledge that it needs a lot of work).
"Is it only temporary until the revamp?"
My fondest wish is to be a Master Rangerat the momentthe revamp finally goes through. I'll be the envy of all the other players, when I demonstrate how the /track command works!

Well, as of right now it looks like I will be forced to drop Ranger. This is not a choice mind you, this has been dictated by the current state of the profession in regards to the CU. Based solely on what I've tested it appears that we're going to need some serious combat skills in order to take on any of the higher end Creatures in the game. Being restricted in our SP alotment (after mastery) and seeing as how there are no current benefits to the Combat Level that can be seen, Ranger is left at a distinct disadvantage within the combat system.
We are required to engage in combat, but the skills neccasary to engage in high end combat in order to harvest the most meat and participate in the more exciting portions of the game aren't available to us. Mastering Ranger has become no better than mastering scout. Though some might argue that the addition of Camo bolsters the profession, at this point the existance of the Rifle skill /cover provides a similar less costly alternative.
Ultimately, as things currently stand there is no real reason to Master Scout ... so why bother going Ranger. Trapping is going to be buggy, and with the lack of effective states even that is impossible to really judge by. Harvesting will be much easier with multiple combat professions and the base harvesting skill. Terrain Negotiation appears to be the most beneficial aspect, especially since camps are simply self-healers in a world where healing stims are available and faster.
Yes it is still early, this is simply a statement based on the information we currently do and don't have.
As to whether or not this is only temporary until our revamp? Well the situation is this... we have been told we're not a combat class. Our traps were completely disregarded and despite multiple attempts to draw attention to our SP plight (and health plight) we have not received any public response. I have no idea what the Ranger role is within the concept of Star Wars Galaxies. If we are solely hunters than there is no reason to take the profession up. All the methods of advancing your character (with the exception of buying the high end loot) drop from NPCs with the exception of rare creature components which you're better off selling. If I wanted to "buy" the high end stuff I'd be an Artisan. I want to go out and get it myself and that requires combat skills. Unless the Revamp were to give us a place in combat, to put us on the combat diagram and to make our role meaningful beyond "creature miners" I would not return to anything Ranger related beyond the forum.
As of right now I can say this. Leaving Scout and Ranger out of the bounds of the CU was a gross miscalculation. Much needs to be done to right the course of the profession right now. Until that is done I'd be best served to chase other aspects of the game.

FWIW, Owen isn't looking for a negative response. He just want's to see how the community feels (in other words, he wants to make sure he is seeing both sides of the issue.

Why are/arn'tyou dropping it? I'll always adapt to my surroundings. That's what I've done as a Ranger thus far. You can stick it to us all you want but you can't make me lose my Master Ranger tag.
Is it only temporary until the revamp? I left smuggler once saying I'd be back after it gets a revamp. That was 15 months ago. I went Ranger after I dropped smuggler and am glad I did. I do miss being a smugglerbecasue of theRP aspect though.

No, not gonna drop it.
No, not gonna drop it.
Why are/arn't you dropping it?
Because I just mastered the profession today (YAY ME!) and I have no desire to level up anything else. I also hope that the devs wake the heck up and realize our SP's are far too much for what is currently viewed as "Scout Plus". And that we HAVE to be in combat for all but 1 line of our skills so we ARE in fact a combat class. Is it only temporary until the revamp?
Nope. Just made Master Ranger and I plan on keeping it for quite some time. I'll find some way to take down the creatures my single combat mastery can't normally take down.Message Edited by SpaceCrazy on 04-01-2005 06:43 PM

Good point. Let me just make it clear, though. Just because I am keeping ranger, doesn't mean that I'm happy with the current setup. I'm keeping Ranger more out of a stubborness than anything else.

Why are/arn'tyou dropping it? Several reasons.
*the RPing I've built up
* the amount of work (not grinding) in it. My bio only shows I ever mastered Scout and Ranger (and soon Creature Handler). It makes me a dedicated toon towards Ranger
* Pure stubborness, asI will keep kicking and screaming about Ranger and the lack of valuable content for Rangers until SOE/Devs get sick of it and remove it entirely (as probably could be done by now)
* On a personal level I have fun playing Ranger combined with my pets. Camping outside a bit, exploring...
This doesn't mean I'm totally happy with the CU. In fact I'm not at all. If it goes thru as planned (without ANY changing regarding Ranger issues), then I will adapt and find passive ways to express my dislikings. One spring to mind: Ranger in group? Sure, 50k beforehand, I'll put a camp nearby, you do all the killing and signal me when you're done.
After all, with only 1000 health I'm not a good in fighting. Could be an entertainer instead.
Is it only temporary until the revamp?
If the other professions gets so borked too (DE, Entertainer) that I've ALSO worked hard for (NO GRINDING), I will seriously consider cancelling my account. I'm not going to pay the bills for ignorant fools!

I don't see any other recourse if I want to be able to have a character who is able to survive.
Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?
I will stick it out until the revamp if and only if the health issue is resolved. If not, see ya.
Is it only temporary until the revamp?
It will more than likely be permanent. The devs in their infinite wisdom have totally screwed the most fun profession over until the players have no choice but to leave. Everything that has happened to the Ranger community has been negative and only the persistance of the Correspondents (not including myself) has caused the Devs to make any changes for the better.
Oh yeah, I have been a Master Ranger since the day of the points nerf, if anyone wants to go back and figure when that was. Back when there were three Masters on my server. The other two originals are gone, both out of the game due to the lack of changes in the profession. Unless they Devs pull their heads out of their collective butts, the mass exodus will start and there will be no organics in bulk being harvested. And where will the economies go then?
