Thread: First Field Base last night... whoo!

(A warm fuzzy post... ignore if you don't feel warm and fuzzy.)

Made my first field base last night after logging in and realizing I was within 1k of survival XP to get the skill box. Very nice.

I do have an issue with camp abandonment in general, and am wondering if anyone shares this view:

If my group members are still in my camp, why should it become "abandoned" if I am away from the camp fire for a short period of time? I would think that one of the main points of our profession is that we would be a clear choice for either scouting around for new lairs or providing the "pulling", yet if I leave my camp for more than a couple of minutes it becomes "abandoned" even if my group members are still there. Why is that?

Camp abandonment has long been bemoaned by Rangers in SWG. I think we all believe that at the very least, Field Bases and High Tech Field Bases, should have a much longer duration before being abandoned.

Btw, I popped my first Field Base last night too. It was awesome and my two friends I was hunting with about messed their pants. <rofl> It was great.

I also agree. I feel at the least the camps should last the normal amount of time until auto disband. This time should be based on the lvl of the camp. It also shouldn't disband if you have to fight. Just my 2 cents.

Why is that?

Because otherwise you qould gain survival xp without actually being in your camp, which would make the skill trivial to achieve. You could simply throw up a camp everywhere you go, run around hunting or tending your harvesters and such and be accrueing survival xp the whole time. You could run around on planets spamming camps everywhere like a chain of Holiday Inns.

Tactically, I agree with you. I really shouldn't have to babysit the camp. But it's easy enough to just put up another one when you need it.

Congrats! I'm 5K from getting to do my own bases, a really good hunt tonight should turn that odometer over for me.

Maybe they should make this a master skill. You hit Master Ranger, bam all camps last for 30 min (or whatever time limit would be good)when no one is in them. No exploit because you don't need the XP anymore.

I made Frontiersmen last night, I made my first high tech field base.. It's awesome.. I got giddy. Saw both crafting stations nearly fell over with excitement, I then saw the electrical fence my mouth dropped. Did I say I love being a ranger! I got ooooo and ahhhhhs by my fellow guildies. Now I would be sooooo happy if it repelled critters I do agree if camps didn't disband, it could be exploited. Maybe the devs could have it if you move out side the camp then xp would stop, until you returned. Also I think there should be a short time limit for the anout of time it stays up when the ranger/scout leaves the camps and increase in time with the bigger camps.

They could do away with an exploit by not allowing the construction of another camp until the first camp is gone. Also, just for the sake of arguement, I wasn't talking being able to go a great distance. Say 64m or so. then maybe I could set up camp by a river and go fishing.

Congrats...

I have the XP, I'm just trying to find another Ranger to train me. (Yes, I know there is a Ranger Trainer in town... I'd just reather help another Ranger with his Apprentice XP then spend 20k).

I can't wait to show off my FB...

Interesting idea, unfortunately there's another problem beside the xp.

When ranger camps have aggro-repelling features, a master could still place a camp to repell aggro and then go off hunting nearby in relative safety, knowing that they have a buffer/buffers between them and the nasty aggro mobs. While this may sound cool, it certainly doesn't seem a fair or coherent use of a camp.

Wannbe here..wannabe scout actually Im a disgruntled Master DE Was hoping there was a way I could place a camp for as long as I wanted. Some of my friends are on-line way before me and I would like to give them a place to rally to and eventually provide some safety to them before we all got on to hunt. If its and XP issue than I like the idea of turning of XP while not in the camp. If its a DB or clutter issue, only allow one up at a time and maybe have owners put hides (maintenance resources) into it to buy its up time.

I have no experience at all, so no need to flame me if its a really stupid idea

Tis a great feeling it is, pop up the first FB or HTFB and all of a sudden all the crap about uber Ranger stops cold. The medics love em. Entertainers love em. Artisans love em. The straight out shooters with no skills love em cuz the rest of us sitting in them heal their broken lil bodies. The crafting stations alone shut half the people up.

I only got one question. How do we carry all that stuff, and which pocket is it in? Do we have an invisible camp toter, who follows us - Oh boy, pop the camp please..now, chop chop.. thats a good lad (insert British accent, I watched too manyjungle movies)

I do agree that once you make Master, at the very least the last two camps stay up til ya knock em down. I would love to leave, fight, and return.
