Nerf,

1.) Overly high expectations

2.) Flood of new, less mature players expecting Rangers to be "uber"

3.) Misunderstanding of the patch notes/correspondent responses ( i.e. difference between /track, /areatrack)

4.) No patience

5.) No warning on the update

6.) Knee jerk reactions

I guess we expected better. Also, with the announced additions to the class, more people became Rangers, so the community naturally loses a level of maturity.

Whatever the case, this patch is a disappointment for me. So much so that I am seriously considering ending my progression as a Ranger (and I am only Frontiering IV from Master). On this end, the class officially lost its fun factor and became more work. I have enough work in my lap, in the real world.

We expected great changes, and when they turned out to be crap, we got pissed off.

The changes are far from crap....just remember when we had nothing to use at all? Dont forget about where we were...to where we are going.

It's a process people, a slow painful one at times. We will get to the pot-o-gold eventually. The problem I see is people want to be 'uber' and they want it now. Nothing worth having comes easily. Patience will go a long way in this game. I continue to play with what they give me and I manage to have fun. If you aren't having fun then go play something else, take a break. This game is way too new yet to be perfect. EQ has been around for years and still has it's issues. So everyone in all professions should just chill and make constructive posts to help fix the problems.

i for one, am glad that the update is not fully functional, if such an update has made ranger the 'flavor of the month'. with it not working, perhaps the annoying little ones will shoo shoo away

although, i will admit that i hung up my ranger for about a month and dusted her off yesterday. was kind of a give/take. i stepped back from rangerbecause i was frustrated with the lack of correspondance and issues being addressed, and went to bio engi. same stuff there. well, when the patch went live, with a host of ranger issues being addressed (sort of) and bio engi getting nerfed (if you can believe it, nerfed!) the change back was natural. now all i need is for bio engineers to be thrown a bone and i'll be one happy subscriber ^_^

I finaly got on last night and poked around with the new Ranger Abilities. For the Record I am a Bothan Master Ranger.

  • Areatrack: It is slow for the information given. Thouh I wonder, if the slowness is built in or a result of code taking that long to "figure" out what is near by. At Master Ranger and 500m it does tell me if there is anything useful in the area. Expcept that it shows corpses, pets and Vendor.

  • Maskscent: Is now unreilable, but at least I know when it breaks. Its is no longer useful verus the level of creatures I deal with.

  • Conceal: Needs improvement. If it is going to cost resources, then it should be a little more long lasting. I don't mind the occasional creature noticing, but the conceal should still be in effect. They did get Experimentation to work with it, so I can make 6 and 7 charge kits while at my HTFB. Though for what ever reason I get more Experimentation points then I can spend.

All in all, put me down as un-impressed. And at this point, I doubt I will wait for /track, and the new traps and camps.

We are not a "broken" class, but we still don't domuchmore then a Master Scout and we don't bring that much to a group.

"Conceal: Needs improvement. If it is going to cost resources, then it should be a little more long lasting. I don't mind the occasional creature noticing, but the conceal should still be in effect."

- Agreed. The Coorespond Response reads:

"First, it is a lot more potent: it lasts longer (up to 25 minutes for a Master Ranger) and it rarely breaks."

- So I don't think the current implementation is supposed to be the end result

"Though for what ever reason I get more Experimentation points then I can spend."

- That happens in crafting meds as well. You are given a set number of experiment points based on your level (to a max of 10).

- Because there is only ONE thing we can experiment on, the number of points given is sort of redundant.

I'm generally very happy with the new abilities we are now valuable to a group, specially hunting groups. I helped my group find things to hunt last night. For the first time in the game I really felt like we were needed. They were asking me to search for different critters and what location they are now ect, it was great. Now if I could get the camo kit to work for me I'll be very happy and if they put back our creature harvesting bonus I'll be even happier.

There is still a difference between scout and rangers now it's a wider in some aspects and smaller in others. Nerfing or making a mistake and removing the creature harvesting bonus makes us on the same level as scouts for harvesting resources. Why should anyone hire us over a scout to harvest resources? We still have two decent traps, we are still the Fastest class in the game. We can now find things easier than scouts with area track, that means we can do explorer missions which I will have to do now as my primary source of income has been cut, oh well. We are not meant to be an uber class, unfortunately the flood of new rangers were hoping we are and are let down with this patch. Therefore the new anger on the board. I wish everyone who is not happy drop ranger, I loved the fact that we were a rare breed. Hopefully the new rangers realizing we are not uber will give it up and go back to there old professions.

It's here and most likely will be for a while

here was my thoughts last night while on Rori
".......
Gunnar says "Group Up"
Toby Joined Group (Male Plains Tuskcat)
Corky Joined Group (Female Planes Tuskcat)
5 min's later
Gunnar Says "Go Get Em Lads"
You are rewared 1xp rifle
You are rewared 1xp combat
... Harvest bone
6 rori animal bones fat and healthy
"ASDASD#$ZSDS"
/disband
Kill another Ikopi
12 animal bones fat and healthy
Store Toby and Corky, call out probot
Group
Kill another ikopi
harvest bone 6 animal bones
"ASDAF"
/disband

So the way I see things I either have to pack up the pets/droid/Not Group or simply not group them and spend even more time SOLO (ungrouped) to get even close to the same hide/bone quanity as before.

Will have to find yet another way to work around this.

Now my real question is now with maskscent and the wonderfull spawning tuskcat lairs on top of me. So much for living.

I really love people who truly seem to believe that anyone who doesnt agree with them *must* be immature, or a whiner, or ....whatever. I dont like the conceal kits and I am not going to be made afraid to say as much. I am a perfectly reasonable adult who had no high expectations for ranger, other than it would allow me to be self-sufficient - as far as that is possible with the need for weapons and battle fatigue healing. I USED to be self-suficient - given the above restrictions- now that is not true to the same degree. Now I must seek the help of others in order to perform my basic function - "ranging" the wildreness. Now, I am less independant than I was before (you remember, when this was such a lovely, mature community). I dont like that. Is that whining? I suppose some of you might say it is, but then YOU would be guilty of the knee-jerk reaction, not me.
