Thread: Bounty Hunter Traps, huh?

Yeah, that's right... there's a thread listing traps that Bounty Hunters want... no less than stickied to the top of their board! Now, I'm not endorsing trolling here... and I know NRass or DeltaXi would frown upon it. So don't grief them. But for god's sake... that would devalue the Ranger so much!

Please discuss this here in a civilized manner and on the Bounty Hunter boards, if you must post, do so in a Rangerly fashion... not trolling but pointing out that this would devalue our proffesion.

I really don't think that the Bounty Hunters are getting this, but we do need to discuss it anyway.

I doubt they will give it to them, much like they wont let us conceal against humanoids.

Well how bout rangers tracking players is devalueing the BH profession? The one profession that hunts down people can't even track them. Yet a ranger can?

How does BH having humonoid traps devalue a ranger? You hunt animals not people. BH's hunt people.

I didn't count on trolls coming to OUR boards. Heh. Ranger tracking is considered bymost to be the only valuable skill we have. I could give it up if we were to get a bunch of other improvements, but if we were to lose it right now, we would have:

  • Camo: Which might get nerfed to not work on NPCs, thus making it the same as /maskscent but using resources.

  • Two Traps: They're ok, but very similar to scout traps, only area-of-effect.

  • Big camps: They heal faster. They look cool. They take a ton of skill points.

  • Rescue: Works ok, but limited practical value

  • Improved harvests: Probably our second best skill, giving additional hides or meat.

  • Faster crawl speed: Yeah, we can crawl faster.

So if we get nearly all of our other requests, then I could give up tracking humanoids and players. But until then, it's the main thing that keeps me a ranger. That, and the respect that goes with the title.

I honestly agree that BH should be capable of tracking people, that would be a worthwhile addition to the Investigation Tree and it would get rid of the BHers that dabble in our profession just for the tracking ability. Humanoid Traps? If they work against NPC's only I have little problem with that as a slayer of people won't just rely upon weapons. I just don't see what tree these traps could be properly added into without a restructuring of the entire class.

Bounty Hunters should be able to track players to a planet or possibly a region, i.e. Tatooine, Dune Sea, but that would be the limit. More exact short range tracking should be limited to Rangers.

I'm in agreement that some of this tracking belongs in the Bounty Hunter proffession, but it also makes sense that we should be able to track the same things. Maybe we should both get it. However, if this happens, I really hope that the devs realize that even though Rangers keep the skill, they are still going to be slightly devalued, as this skill is very useful to us and some of us even make money off of it.

So I hope we get some compensation if this happens: our list of requests.

Kyyran,

I think you may be concerned over an apples/oranges problem. BHs are only concerned with humanoid traps where Rangers should be concerned with traps that affect everything. Yep, I think if you can track 'em you should be able to trap 'em. BHs have no desire or need for animal traps but we for sure track humanoids. I see no conflict there. After all, BHs don't gain BH xp from hunting animals and Rangers don't gain Ranger xp from gutting and skinning humanoids...er, yet

I move to let Rangers harvest resources and trap Wookies.

I agree with Asheesh. BH traps for NPCs and players makes sense in the same way that scout and ranger traps for creatures makes sense. I posted (rather lengthily, unfortunately) my ideas for BH traps and asked that they help us with making camo kits work on NPCs. I don't know if any will, but we can hope, right?

I don't agree with bounty hunters tracking NPCs and players though. I can see both sides of it, but I guess what it comes down to is the fact that rangers are using the cues from the environment to look for evidence of something passing through the region (think of Aragorn in The Two Towers when he's looking at the ground to see where the two Hobbits were going). We can only do that because we are very in tune with nature and the environment, certainly much more than scouts (and therefore bounty hunters) are, because we have dedicated our toon lives to becoming so. And since bounty hunters have specific droids for this purpose (a la Darth Maul in Episode I and the BH in Episode II), it seems a bit redundant for them to also be able to use tracking to find their targets.

BHs have droids to track people, have had since day one. No need for areatrack for them. Besides, they would bork it up, as most BHs can't read a compass anyhow they would cry and whine, as well as snivel, for a freaking waypoint...but I digress.

As to traps -Lol, they got the scout traps. Fine, let em traps NPCs. Means we can too. Hey, are pets NPCs? T'ain't gonna happen, the Devs may be sorta dumb sometimes but they are not stupid.

I would go to the BH boards, butI consider BH about the most useless profession in this game. Rational arguments are wasted on the 13 yr olds there - oohhh I wanna kill stuff.... I will be a BH an get kewl l33t weapons and armor - gag.

Let em dream, and whine and snivel - then they threaten to leave the game or sue. I only gander at their forum as the Jedi one quit amusing me with all the retarded theories of FS opening.

go ahead BHs, post a bounty... I told ya, you will go broke as all my friends will collect it over and over...death be not pretty, but nor is it permanent

"BH traps for NPCs and players makes sense in the same way that scout and ranger traps for creatures makes sense."

I agree with this logic...

  • It makes sense when contrasting the role of Bounty Hunter and Ranger in the grand scheme of things.

The Bounty Hunter profession ultimately has the same right as Ranger to have traps (as we both have the Trapping prerequisite from Scout)...

  • The question is which traps they should receive, and which we should receive.

  • And that question was answered by the developers vision of us as the Creature hunter (leaving humanoidtraps in the hands of some other profession)

As for the /areatrack, I feel the skill should remain in our perview...

  • The BH have their droids that serve the same purpose.
