Thread: The Noob Speaks, Give Ranger a more miltary/combat role.
One more thing I think we need to make a new proposal that includes a greater military role for us. Put your ideas here for that expanded role.
I think we should keep theseideas
1) Modular Camps - with a few PvP specific camps and modules
2) Revamped concealment - with some sort of surprise attack modifier
3) Expand improve traps - we have to get some sort of PvP traps, don't budge on this. Plus better traps for hunting. Also make our PvP traps anti-personal traps.
4) Better tracking - I don't need to say anymore you all know what I mean
I'm sure I missed some stuff. Add any ideas you haveit to this thread.
WKD is the clan fo' me!!!
not to belittle your ideas, shaw.. but if the combat balance is your concern, you might want to check out this thread...
it takes it a little bit to get going, but it has a lot of our concerns already laid out... if anything, you can add your own take on things to it and bump it back to the top of the forum... since some folks have already made their arguments there, it might be tthe best place to start...
In the Squad Leader revamp thread, we were dicussing fortifications with TH. He told all the SLs that each profession can only have a certain number of abilities, and each tree can only have a certain number of abilities, so if the devs went ahead with fortifications, that would have meant sacrificing a full tree of other abilities that they had planned, and thats why it was highly unlikely.
If you all push for PvP stealth, then they will have to devote an entire skilltree to the ability as well as +mods to it, and that means that a quarter of our entire profession is useless to those who dont bother wwith PvP. No thanks.
Shaw, I think your Ideas are very good, and I look forward to reading any other Ideas you may have to offer. If you were to do a search for ranger weapons, stealth, camps, you will find many, many, Ideas and suggestion, pro's and cons, of just about anything orway to Improve our profession.
I personally dont do much in the PvP side, as the few times I tried, I was hopelessly out classed and had my bottom handed to me by many others that do PvP on a regular basis. TH, GM, have both said that we are to be PvE oriented. Our roles in the GCW, comes to question in my mind, but thats another thread.
I would like to see the Items we have already in place be made to function the way they were intended. Traps Camps, Camo, ect. I think as a community we need to go back from time to time and adress these issues.
Keep up the good job

(I think i'm doing better :smileyhappy![]()
TH made this sentiment quite clear in his discussion with the SLers, and if it comes down to a choice between PvE and PvP, sorry, but Im voting for PvE, the Ranger is about the wilderness, not hiding in the bushes killing people. Thats my view anyway.

GadonThek, I agree we should have a focus on PvE, but we can have both. The point here is that other professions can have both. Rifleman's conceal is supposed to be effective against all, so should ours. Commandos attacks work against all, so should ours. Devs don't always want to admit it but things they say are not as static as they want us to believe. When Jedi were first announced they said it would almost be impossible to achieve jedi status. Now they are devoting two whole publishes to make jedi a more realistic goal for all players. We can have both, the only way to convince me otherwise is if a dev looks me in the eye, takes me too there computer and shows me that it is impossible for us to have both. GadonThek look at it this way, if you want to hunt just creatures right now you can already do that, if I want to fight in PvP I don't have a choice. This is blatant discrimination.
Being a Ranger means you find a role in PvP and fill it.
I am OIC (I made Colonel, neener neener neener) of the Recon Section. In defense - I stay covert, leave the base to hit 525m out, and yes, I have waypointed many spots for just this, and runareatrack. In 15 battles in which I did this, the other side is 0-15 sneaking in.
On offense, I go in first, recon the area, covert of course. Do an /AR from 200 m out, see who is out and about, then report. I usually go back to 1k out and set up a camp so we can callpets, buff late arrivals, store speeders, whatever.
Combat support means you support those too freaking stupid to be able to support themselves.
Oh, and the fact that I do have Master Pistoleer means I have a limited, but decent role in PvP.
