I am working on Pikeman, but I have been a TKA, Rifleman, BH, Carbineer, and Pistoleer

Where any of those combat professions BAD for ranger? Or is it mostly just a matter of preference?

Just your preference. THings will be way different after the CU, though.

I mean right now, most combat professions are the same...basically. THey are giving each combat profession a unigue role in the CU.

I have on Ranger that has Pistoleer as his other Master Profession.

I've been master rifleman and master swordsman, but working on pikeman atm (hopefuly before the CU hits the main stream servers)

Pistol.
Real men do not lay in the dirt and hide. Nor do they scream out of sync with mouth movements and whack stuff with their hands.
(The TK part was a joke, always wondered if they taught non syncronized talking in karate classes tho)

Currently Master Swords Master Ranger*. Basically, I can hit things for very high dmg but slow with a 'ammer, or I can hit things for moderately high damage very quickly, with a 1.5 second Scythe (has the Durable Lathe from the Melee speed Village quest attached to it atm). I like swordsman, no real strategy involved though... "Throw Adhesive Mesh, throw Glow Wire/Wire Mesh, Smack away with weapon" is about it as far as strategy goes.

Now I get to do 3 boxes of camping in two weeks. My wrists are already hurting from practice crafting

Ive been pistoleer, carbineer, rifleman, tka, swordsman, fencer and pikeman.
The most natural fit is rifleman... however, for sheer power and great area attacks (if you like being in the center of the action) pikeman is great. Swordsman has amazing power and good defence. Carbineer really didnt impress me much until i did npcs and pvp for a bit, their ability to lay down stats in an area is really cool. Pistoleer is a great profession that lets you get in the heat of battle yet still retain some distance so as you dont get hit.
In order of my personal preference

pistoleer
pikeman
swordsman
tka
carbineer
fencer

Master ranger and master pikes. I was master rifles for a while, but decided I needed to get a bit more "agressive" about my hunting... Love the pikes and can't wait to see how they work post cu
