Thread: Mounts may not put us out of comission
Personally, I see mounts as very handy for non-scouts to keep up with us while travelling in hilly terrain.
My partner and I have tested it out:
- Myself, Master Ranger,on Foot
- Himself, Non TN at all, on Mount
He can now traverse the cliffs of Theed without me having to wait for him to catch up.
With all the restrictions applied to Mounted players, I am sure that we will not be seeing as a large an impact as many of us feared.

And they look so cool... The only problem is I will have to return to civilization to purchase one. ![]()
I don't see creature mounts as a threat at all. I would EXPECT them to have better terrain negotiation than us. I would DEMAND that they can move faster and /gallop (burstrun) for longer periods. The whole **edit** point of having one, at least for me, is transportation. Personally I wouldn't want to even risk a mount in heavy combat. Especially since I assume that non CHs will still be limited to CL-10 creatures. I also assume that to make a creature a suitable mount, it would not be as good as a combat pet.
Sothe idea that someone will hunt on one of these things simply to bypass terrain negotiation is laughable. The number of people who would do this has to be a serious minority, not even worth worrying about. And Ican't see howhalf the of the special moves availablewould evenbe possible on a mount. Though I do expect a new range of combat moves to become available to a creature handler now.
Though I am glad to know that you still get aggro'd. As long as they can run away from the fight, that's fine.
"but they shouldn't have non'ch be able to ride uber mounts"
You can only ride what you can call.
- So if non-ch can only call CL15 creatures, we can only ride CL15 mounts.

Glad to hear they were are not totally screwed with mounts as far as terrian neg. goes. But the way i see it, it will help us during fire fights when not on mounts becuase we can haul ass out of rough terrian area better then NPC's, critters, or other PC's
That is not my understanding.
It is my understanding that there will be wild versions of all mountable creatures at level 10, and that Bio-Engineers will be able to experiment down the level of their creations. I think Creature Handlers would be rather put out if this were not the case.
As for the latter question...mount speed is independent of the rider. Two players mounted on the same creature type will run at equal speeds. It appears from some stopwatch runs I did on Test that Kaadu/Spats are a bit faster than Dewback/Bols, but either gallop at a speed comparable to /burstrun. I did not have a chance to try a Brackaset/Falumpaset. The only cavaet -- and I haven't tested this thoroughly myself, so feel free to correct me -- is that it seems that whether or not the mount can gallop is determined by whether or not the rider has /burstrun available. It seemed I could gallop all I wanted as long as I hadn't used /burstrun, but if I had, my mount was "tired".
While I'm on the topic, why would we care about whether or not mounts allow people to circumvent Terrain Negotiation? Frankly I'm happy that they do so, for all intents and purposes. That will mean fewer people will buy Scout just so they can run at an acceptable speed, and that will mean fewer people who buy Hunting just because they've already bought into Scout. Meaning, more work for us. If anyone was going to be upset with this it would be Squad Leaders, whose Group Terrarin Negotiation just got devalued -- but really, SL is already at zero so who's going to notice?
Bundling running speed into our skill set was a brain-dead decision in the first place.
From the latest response by TH it seems that when you get aggro'ed you will be able to just gallop away from combat if you don't want to engage. Doesn't that make /maskscent and /conceal somewhat useless since their whole point is to avoid combat?
