Thread: How Will the New Vendor Changes Affect Cities?

Do you think the new Galactic Wide Vendor Bazaar will cause a decrease in traffic to your player cities fellow mayors?

Theres already going to be a massive price war thats going to force the crafters to drop prices significantly across the board - but I'm also worried that people will just sit there and surf the bazaar in Theed and never visit our cities.

Maybe we need the ability to place our own bazaar's in player cities? Perhaps we could add a *cough* sales tax or something to benefit the towns?

Thoughts?

What??

Oh well, I guess this is the inheritance from all the stupid empty vendors in player cities around the galaxies. If people had controlled theirvendors better, this probably wouldn't be happening. I can see why they're doing it - and why a lot of towns that are only about loot and resource vendors and such aren't going to be happy, but it's a reaction to the problem of people being bad merchants.

I can't speak for every player city, although I think mine is pretty typical. We have a thriving mall, and because of the Jedi grind, this is pretty much the only reason anyone comes to our city. With these vendor changes, no one will have any reason to come to player cities. With all the nice additions and stuff, it would be a shame to see player cities die because of this patch.

I am not a politician or running a city - but here are my questions.

Does anyone know if a city will still get the tax for these sales? How will the tax loss and shutle loss impact the cities?

My guess is that is has to cost more to run a city than the 2k the residents have to pay.

Well sales tax doesn't work anyway, so it doesn't really matter right now. But if they ever fixed it.....

I'm going to sticky this thread because I want more discussion to bring to the devs please stay constructive and give (reasonable) suggestions however you can.

I've also brought up the player city bazaar issue again (with a link to this thread), we'll see what happens.

p.s.: for those of you who haven't read, here is a link with more information.

Myself, and the other merchants/crafters in my city like the searching from anywhere. We're split on the buying from anywhere. And we're all opposed to the instant delivery. As said before, and as will be said many more times, there will be no reason to come to player cities anymore if you can buy everything from the main npc cities.

Also - if there's noone browsing your vendors, how will merchants get xp? And what of impulse buys?

Might I suggest that SOE does what the do in EQ2 - - - - if the individual wants the instand delivery they pay an extra 20%.

In EQ2 you can buy from the broker (SWG would call it the bazaar) or you can do directly to that toons vendor to buy they item. If you chose to buy through the broker you pay an extra 20% broker fee.

Doing this would at least give the patron the choice of paying more or coming to your shop directly.

I haven't forced myself to sit down and read that whole thread, but a friend of mine told me Tiggs updated at one point saying that you can buy from whereever, but have to physically goto the vendor to pick it up.

I think browsing from wherever will reward those who put an effort into it. As long as the person has to go pick it up, they will still see what else is there. It will be more effective at passing up cities that rest on past laurels and reputations no longer deserved & give all cities an equal chance at people seeing what they have to offer as long as they have merchants who are competitive and competent enough to draw customers.

Another nail in our coffin.

Where does the sales tax go?

Where is the shuttle fee?

Where are the people?

Our dismal bottom line will become worse and we'll become even more ghostly. Much of the traffic that goes into and out of Player Cities is commerce related.

The purchased item is instantly teleported to the buyers inventory in the current form. If they had to go get the item at least there would be some traffic. I can understand people being frustrated paying hide & seek with vendors. Bargain hunting (The travel between vendors, cities and planets) is not available with minimal effort rather than being a reward for shrewd play.

In the market economy Malls charge more than Retail which charge more than Online which sells for more than Wholesale. Even within a store a shop will have a "Sale" but will hope to sell you other normally priced things while you are there. The sale draws the person in then "while they are there" they make other impulse decisions.

The downside of having this system without delivery is that shop located in the most remote corner of the planet without any shuttle available.
