Thread: History of your City's Name
We went through several options before deciding to name our city Kor Spera (we did lots of planning beforehand). We're on Corellia, about 2800m from Kor Vella. We decided to take the "Kor" as part of the city name, looking at it the way that "Mos" is a part of a lot of Tatooine cities. In our role-play description we're going off "Kor" as an Old Corellian word for "city".
"Spera" is based off the Latin word for "hope". We had all just recently come out of a messy break-down of our old guild and city.We were looking for a new place to start, and "hope" was the word we wanted since the city was our attempt at a new start. Rather than just go for the English version, we opted for something more unique.
So Kor Spera means "City of Hope".
Our guild is tied directly to the city (you can be in the guild if you're not in the city, but not in the city if you're not in the guild) and is called the Kor Spera Fellowship. We wanted it to be clear that the city was an extension of us.
And it really is quite a view from the large naboo house over looking the whole city getting to see everything.
In real life, I collect swords and other types of melee weapons. One of my favorite lines is the Swords of the Ancients by Kit Rae. (Available over at www.unitedcutlery.com). Rae went so far as to write a large back story for each sword. And this story took place in Ammon.
When I dropped our city hall, I had a brain fart and couldn't think of anything, so I named it Ammon. Then went and named my alt after one of the main characters in his story. ![]()

Very nice! Thats a great city name =) A see that there was alot of planning, ours was a one time decision =P
Named for the League of eXtraordianary Beings. But a dual meaning was a reason we named it so. We are located in the center of Dantooine. On that first day the Empire allowed colonization of Dantooine, it seemed it was a walk of a league or more from any of the 3 outposts.
Dominion...
Named because it houses Dominion Company. An imperial guild. It was named dominion because we strive for total domination
Anyway a far more intersting story was my entire guild roaming the desert one night in November 2003 trying to find a good location for our city. We had been planning on building to the Southwest of Anchorhead for months but as it got closer we felt that we would have trouble with the space with all the houses there. (Today we could do it easily as that area is a ghost town compared to what it once was).
We sat outside a large tatooine house (placed as a space holder for the Guild Hall) and discussed the city name for what seemed like hours. The story we ended up developing was that we were founding the city to get out of the Anchorhead area which was becomming increasingly hot for Rebels at the time.
Our city of Tusken's Bane's history falls into the RP category. The city had to be named "Tus'kens Bane" due to the naming filter blocking Tusken's. Here's the RP history:
From the moment this galaxy was born, brave adventures were drawn to a village in a remote corner of Tatooine. For at this village lived the dreaded sand people who the people of Tatooine called Tuskens (a name the sand people earned after claiming Fort Tusken as their own). It was here that the people of Tatooine said “no more, you will advance no further.” Wave after wave of noble fighters made the treacherous journey from Bestine and Anchorhead. They fought and died at the village. And while the Tuskens remained in the village, their advance stopped.
In support of these great heros, a city was born: Tusken’s Bane. Located just east of the village, people gathered and founded a town that was to be a bane to all Tusken’s on Tatooine by providing support, supplies, and bravery of its own.
Tuskens were not the only thing the citizens of the city had to brave. The city was under constant siege by desert demons, Krayt Dragons, Cannibal Dewbaks, and a many other dangerous creatures. Tusken’s Bane is very much a frontier city and carries the dangers one would expect of such a town.
But within a week of its founding, the Tusken’s numbers were cut dramatically, and soon after, the Tusken’s abandoned the village. For the first time since the capture of Fort Tusken, the sand people were in retreat. The open desert was no longer their dominion. Emboldened by their successes facing the sand people, the town organized a militia and though they were beset daily by any number challenges – a relative calm settled over this frontier town.
But the town did not have much time to savor its victory, for the rumors were proven true. Alderaan was destroyed and the Senate disbanded. Open civil war was declared throughout the galaxy. And soon, Tusken’s Bane would find itself very much a part of it.
Whether you are looking for a new home or just a new way to experience the galaxy, we welcome you to our town. Come join us in the adventure we call…
