Thread: Removing Player City Cloning Center from the option of Closest Cloning Center is a BAD Idea

As I the title states, I don't think it's a good idea to remove player city cloning centers from the option of closest. Here are some reasons:

-What if someone is on their to the player city to clone but has an accident along the way? They are now 3500m from the closest NPC cloning center and only 1000m from the player city. Because they didn't quite make it to the player city to clone, they are forced back and have to retrace their steps. Part of the allure of having player cloning centers is to prevent this.

-Having player cloning centers as the closest option brings visitors to the city. If a player dies in the area of a player city, but haven't cloned there, they see this option and take it, since it's a lot closer to where they want to be than the NPC cloning center. They end up visiting the player city vendors and use the player city services of the cantina and hospital. If they like it, they'll probably even choose to come back here again later.

-Player city cloning centers as the closest option would give healers and entertainers customers. Why? Because players will clone with wounds and will need help. Instead of ending up in an empty NPC city, they'll be just a stone's throw away from the services in a player city, with citizens eager to help.

-Also, some players just plain forget to clone, and forcing them back to an NPC city when they would prefer the closer player city center isn't very fun.

I understand the issue of factional cities and such, but removing player cities cloning center from being the closest isn't the solution. Perhaps the cloning menu should have TWO options for closest cloning center; closest NPC cloning center and closest player city cloning center. This simple solution could make all parties happy.

Actually it wouldn't, because those trying to stay in town for griefing purposes would just continue to do so. If they fixed /cityban though, so that banned people could not use the PRC's cloning facility, then it COULD still be the first option for all friendly players. Those banned would default to the next closest friendly cloning center.

Devs, see how just making the commands work as you intended fixes so many problems?

Actually, on my server city ban works. The only problem is, you have to ban the person before they clone in your lab, or they will obviously clone there when they die. The other issue is, they may be cloned there, but now they can't get in to re-insure the items after you ban them.

If it were possible to prevent someone from cloning there after being /citywarned or /citybanned then it could truly be a win-win situation for all. The person who is warned/banned would be forced to the NPC cloning center and all legitimate uses for the player city cloning center can be preserved. As it stands with the pending changes, the cloning center won't be nearly as useful.

Here's something else to think about, since city ban does work on my server. The city gets income from shuttleport purchases. Certain unnamed cities are starting to use this. They wait for someone to purchase a ticket from the shuttleport, to get the city kick back, then ban people so they can't fly out. This is just a variation of the old merchant sells item/bans customer so they can't retrieve grief.

Maybe not remove it but perhaps give you a choice, then people can't complain about militia abusing their /warn command and then maybe they wont remove it.

Make it so if a player is banned, they are immediately refunded any services purchased in the city. They are no longer cloned there, but their cloning fee is returned. They are refunded their shuttle ticket fee as well. Again, problem solved.

Aye, I think the grief is banning and warning people AFTER they have cloned in the city. You get killed, you clone there, they instantly re-warn you, kill you, you clone there, repeat. The griefing tool is not city warn, but the manner in which people use it. Same with city ban. And a person should be refunded all monies spent on city services the minute they are banned, if they have not used the ticket/clone, etc.

Force remove cities from POI areas.

Do not allow people with citywarn TEF to clone in the city they were warned in.

Allow cities to declare for a faction. Do not allow placement of faction deeds unless city is declared.

Do not allow opposing faction to clone in factioned cities. (So they can't be griefed with scanners and other things)
