Thread: Need: City Layout Tool
Anyone out there know ifa website or individualhas developed a city layout grid that can be downloaded and manipulated to create a city? I have done a good job with the layout so far but we have grown so fast that I am now into uncharted territory and need to do some planning.
Any help would be appreciated ![]()

Works awsome if you have PS or PSP. Will try and update it when i get shots of the player city buildings
I think that to start with this, assuming a flat area, one would need to know the size and shape of every building. I do not know if this data has been collected, especially since cities were only just released to live - most of us have not seen all of the structures available.
Another issue is terrain. I mean, stuff just doesn't fit some places =) I understand that many communities are not challenged by this, but on Rori for example (where my city is) there are an awful lot of hills.

It is. I need one that has more of a grid and shows actual building footprints...preferably Naboo style.
Same here!
I'm doing my City planing with Paintshop ... grid of 20px equals a sqare (8x8m) ... did screenshots of all the Tatooine buildings needed (city buildings on Test) and put them on a sandy underground ... made several layers (already placed buildings that aren't gonna change, new placed buildings up for redeed, possible new building placed, transparent special areas, circles for all city radius around the hall, Names of residence, streets with names)
But it got so big my paintshop broke ![]()
A friend had taken screenshots of all the buildings and transferred them into the program's library. The great thing is that you can define the grid sizes and make everything 'snap' to its appropriate location.
Why do so many people have city designs that look like military housing? Where is the organic feel? Where are the variety of house styles? I need to upload some screenshots of Fairfolk.
Anyway, it's campaign cartographer for me.
