Thread: Need: City Layout Tool
http://www.geocities.com/forthofffer/map.jpghas Tatooine structures. The background is shades of tan, like most of the desert on Tattoine.
I made the images for the structures bringing up the overhead map (Ctrl-M) in SWG, making it so I was looking at a bland background (such as the sky), and taking a screenshot. Then I scaled the image to one pixel equals one meter. Then I used Photoshop's Select Color Range to select the buildings and fill with my target color. Then I inverted the selection and filled outside with the terrain color. Finally, I copied an appropriately sized rectangle to the main image.
People could follow the same procedure for other planets.
Here's a repost detailing the tool one of our PA created:
Hi I'm Talon from Aartan Ridge City on Farstar.
A couple of people have asked me for the Excel Spreadsheet that one of our members Jayce designed to help me plan our city.
In the link below you will find the spreadshet we used with all the tattoine buildings and sizes clearly marked as well as the city radius's marked out from the city hall.
Each structure shows it's footprint and rough size andthe grid squares are 8 feet in diameter.
You can move and copy the buildings and rotate them using excel and of course zoom in and out.
If your going to re-post this tool please give Jayce credit as he put an awfull lot of effort into it. Couple of problems with it, we only put in the Tatooine structures as thats where we were building and its a bit of a pain getting it our into jpg form to post on the web. your best bet is to view it full screen and then print screen it and put it into photoshop
Also you will need a copy of Microsoft Ecel to run it.
Here is the link to where the file is stored

Just open the above index and right click the City Planner.xls and click save as.
If anyone gets the sizes to the other planets structres and makes a version with them please post it here.
As an Example here is Aartan Ridge in its full glory.

We're building on the messa outside of Mos Entha that is the outline you can see around the city.
Have fun

The terrain is not 100% accurate, but the houses are all taken from screenshots with the overhead map on. I know the scale is correct on those becuse I zoom the map all the way out and shrink the resulting image by 50% (cutting away everything but houses from the images)
I use Paint Shop Pro 7 from Jasc. (www.jasc.com)
I'm planning to actually make a tool out of it, but for now I have a bunch of graphics very handy for city layout. In these images, every pixel is 2/3 a meter. (Or put other ways, a meter is 1.5 pixels)
These work best if you have an advanced graphics program like Photoshop or The Gimp. (I use The Gimp myself)
- A grid of structure lots big enough for a city
- Rings for the various sizes with a transparent background, good for overlaying over other images
- Same rings, but filled in. This is good for overlaying on a background like the grid with a "Burn" or "Multiply" style.
- All Naboo and Generic buildings and factories including civic structures, with their footprint
Also if you happen to be using The Gimp (Freely available for Windows here and included in any Linux distribution) :
- Naboo and Generic buildings with 4 layers (Grid, partitions, structures and footprints as separate layers - I usually merge the structures and foorptints for placement)
- The map I keep with all of the above and some more in 8 layers (Soon to be 9) to produce both a nice looking map with the land and houses, and a city planner map with grid and buildable areas marked.
