The simple way to fix the problem where there are inactive players still voting for an old Mayor is to give the old Mayor the right to resign as long as there is another running against him. So simple it's ridiculous.
With the fact that inactive player's votes still go to the old Mayor it has become impossible for a new Mayor with new ideas and new zeal to take office. This just makes no sense at all. Developers, unless you add this function and add it FAST, you are allowing many of our cities to turn to ghettos.
In our own town, the Mayor has dropped all Mayorial skills and moved out. She can't even grant Town Militia rights anymore, and guess what? All of the Town Militia members have also become inactive or quit playing. The town won't die over night. Oh no. There are 40-50 inactive players with houses still in town. Slowly but surely it will die off, but not until all those houses spend all their maintenance and fade away or the player accounts are deactivated.
There are several of us town residents interested in making our town work. In fact we have some folks who would like to move in, but alas the old Mayor dropped all her Mayorial skills. We have a new Politician very interested in wetting his feet as Mayor. But alas the old Mayor can't just resign and there are too many inactive players who's votes still go to the old Mayor, although she doesn't even have the skills.
We would VERY VERY much like to see this change. We propose that a very simple solution be implemented. That is allowing the old Mayor to resign as long as there is another politician running against them. Also, it would be appropriate for the old Mayor to be automatically removed from office if she drops her Mayorial skills as long as there is another politician running against her. Please implement these changes as quickly as possible, as some of out beloved towns are experienceing difficulties that are going to ghettoize them. We love our towns and would really hate that.
If you agree with this change, I ask each and every player to /sign this petition. If we stand together on this, they should listen.

this has got to be fixed and fixed now. How many cities will die because of this. Our Mayor is leving at the end of July and I have volunteered to take over but with 55 citizens registered and only a dozen or so regular palyers it will be impossible for us to pass over power. Being based on Talus makes it harder to get new citizens......
This is probably (IMHO) the most important change required in the profession at the moment.
How hard can it be to implement this in a new sub-patch.
Come on guys lets see this sorted and sorted quick
Thanks

I'm going to cancel the account where the mayor of my city is, and I can't get people to vote for the new one... So the city will just die if I can't resign.

I came to the politician forum this AM to see how I could change mayors among my accounts easily - guess that can't happen... Please implement this devs. I'd hate to have to cancel an account just to change mayors...
