With the November 16th politician patch in mind, does this mean that existing mayors need to re-register each 3 week session to be considered eligible to be voted on? My current politician char is not listed on the ballot but i wanted to double-check before registering him.

Actually, that's somewhat annoying.

The incumbent should at least be registered automatically.

Doing so would NOT make it any more difficult to vote out unwanted or inactive Mayors, since they would still default to zero votes.

But leaving them off the ballot means if they're indisposed or forgetful during the two week "registration" period, anybody can register against them and win the election by default.

I've said it since these changes were first announced, and I'll say it again: expect more grief than ever before with players trying to do hostile takeovers on towns. More griefing means more CSR calls. More CSR calls with no resolution that makes everybody happy means less customers.

Yes, the ability to replace inactive Mayors is nice. But I think they're going to find these changes doing more harm than good.

I don't know, since GreenMarine once again borrowed my city for testing and hasn't given it back so I can't test this right now, but I'll forward this thread to him.

It encourages citizens to be more active but they won't be. The only person to suffer will be the mayor. This update fixes one thign and breaks ten.

the mayor's skills are there to benefit his/her citizens. if the folks in a city doesn't vote, then they don't get to enjoy the city luxuries that come with higher level skills.

That makes perfect sense to me... I think novice politicians should get sticks to beat civilians with. Much as an artisan gets a crafting tool or a marksman gets a gun I am an Imperial guild. I should rule by fear of force

That's assuming all in a city care whether there are cantinas or not - typically a large % of citizens are combat wombats and aren't particularly fussed about these sorts of things.

It's the crafters and entertainers that care, and some of us have enormous trouble keeping them interested....especially now.

this isn't directed towards anyone, but if your citizens doesn't care about the city, either you guys need to talk it over and understand what a city really means, or recruit folks that will care. explain to your citizens that voting once every 3 weeks will ensure everything in the city runs smoothly, and maybe offer incentive to do so (some small reward?)

You shouldn't have to bribe citizens to help you. I pay a VERY large chunk of change a week for the upkeep of the city plus give new players a whole host of things. I think they get enough. Players are quick enough to turn to a mayor when they need help. Why can't it go the other way? You have no way of telling how good a new recruit is until it comes down to the crunch. 70% join and are never seen from again.

Another unconsidered aspect of this change is that if you are the Mayor of a city, it does not pay to have any extended leave from the game, go on holidays, etc.

I'll be away from the game for a 3 and a half week period over the Xmas-NY holidays so won't be able to register myself as the incumbent. As it's against SOE TOS for me to give my account details to a 3rd party, how do they propose I handle this?

I guess crossed-fingers is the only alternative my city has to not being unceremoniously deleted by a griefing resident (of which there are always one or two). We have 42m+ credits in our treasury, and everyone in town has put thousands of manhours into making the city run, get it decorated, fit out shops, etc (even though lots of people have defected to WoW, CoH, etc over the past couple of months). But just the act of me going on a holiday with the wife and kids puts all of that under threat! I'm sorry but who is the idiot who comes up with these things? Something like "the incumbent is automatically registered to run for office again" is such as simple thing - how could it of been missed?

It still anoys me that they do this top-down development of changes, give us a minimal opportunity to allow us any feedback during the dev and imp process, and then once they are implemented ask us "so what do you think guys?". It happens all the time and everytime a major change is made, stupid little problems like this continually occur that end up detracting from the whole of the changes.

Even better.... someone of an opposing faction or guild can drop a house outside your city limits assuming you aren't a level 5 city and as you expand they become a citizen. I see the potential for hostile takeovers coming not long after this.
