What different things have you heard from your citizens that they thought happened but in reality the game doesn't even allow it?
For example...
I've had lots of people think that politicians get paid from the city treasury automatically.
or
I've had almost everyone in my city at some point in time think that the city earns in whole or part the money paid to trainers.
Have any of my fellow mayors had to squash any other Player City Urban Legends?
If so what were they?

I had to keep telling one person over and over that the Mayor cannot set anyone else as admin on city hall. Just isnt an option to do so. hehe I still think she doesnt beleive me.

my citizens think its very cheap to keep it running.
while we were a outpost, we ran on donations only (worked well), but since we are a township. I set up a 3 % sales tax, and a 5 % garage tax.
the citizens dont/cant believe it costs 186,500 Cr / week to maintain

Same.
410K per weekand rising. They all think it's under 100K, despite my pleading for donations.

Everyone seems to think I use taxes to spite them.
One citizens said, "2k a WEEK? Kinda high dont you think?"
I replied, "Heh.. sorry, costs 100k a week for my city."
He says, "Wow! Why does it cost so much?"

Some millitia members kept on telling me that millitia is broken adn doesn't work. I kept re-adding them to the list. Then I asked one day "Why you think it doesn't work?" "Well" a player replied honestly, "I can't grant myself zoning rights!"

I wish it could be 5k max instead.
I also started up structure tax to 10%, everyone is happy now, because they didn't believe it costs 238k a week for our city...
so I said go check the terminal in the city hall.. now they pay with no problems, saves the donations I kept bugging people for.
... but early on, many did say how much percentage I got each week..

That I as Mayor or any of the militia can ban people from even entering the city limits.
I get that at least once a day.
Oh, and no, I cannot "just give you your own NPC trainer" in your house.

The most frequent question that I get is...when can we have a bazaar in the city. Umm...it's gonna be a while.

Granting yourself zoning rights is one I see all the time. I often get people asking me to move someone's house or kick them out of town.
My city is 715k per week, I dream of the days I was under 250k. All I can say, is do everything you can to encourage trade in your city. My taxes are only:
2% sales tax
500 income tax
3% property tax
If you can get some good established artisans and people who do lots of business you can pull in a ton of money on sales tax.

Yeah, ours is 500k+, but one of the mayor candidates wanted to reduce our taxes - that was his main platform. I had to explain to him that without the taxes (and even in spite of it) our city runs at a deficit. Thankfully we have people willing to donate to it.

(copied from the "next question" thread, as this seemed a better place for this posting)
there seems to be a problem cropping up of late where a player with Politican skills is coming along and planting a city hall such that formerly rural houses/business suddenly find themselves within a new city, and subject to the taxation imposed by the mayor of that city. I've not experienced this myself, but what I'm hearing seems to suggest that the only recourse these players/businesses have is to pull up and move -- regardless of how long they've been there before the upstart city was created. is there or can there be a mechanism to allow those who were already present to vote 'no' to the creation of a city? maybe the size of the 'no build' zone that surrounds NPC cities and POIs should be doubled for city halls, compared to other buildings or installations (for example - if I can't place a harvester or merchant tent within 1000m, then I'd need to be 2000m away to place a city hall)
just came through spam-center.... er, I mean Coronet and heard an interesting counter to the above argument. doesn't sound right to me, but I wanted to check with folks because it just sounds "too good to be true"
report is, you can 'opt out' of having to pay taxes imposed in a city by simply revoking your citizenship in that city? come on... it can't be that easy, can it?
next think I know, someone will be trying to sell me the Anchorhead Bridge...
