TH told me that the code is inactive on live, and that they haven't received any bug reports that might suggest otherwise *ahem*

I'm trying to see if this means the code is also inactive on TC (so that I can watch for bugs also), and if there are any confirmed cases that proves otherwise, please let me and TH know

Thanks Pappi, we have been checking with all of the residents and it appears to be simply non-active players houses going poof over lack of maintenance and one instance of an ex-player deleting their characters when they quit the game (guess they weren't planning on coming back which is a shame).

It's nice to have a confirmation though and big thanks for the followup.

Seems to me like this was put in for a one-time purge of all the "ghost citizens" created by cross-server trading that was the big thing when cities first came out. And it was pretty effective.

I doubt we'll see this enabled again because there was a lot of concern about people who were going to be away for extended periods of time (particularly people in the armed forces).

Not a good PR move for SOE to be removing "inactive" citizens when they're overseas fighting wars for America.

So upon request, could a CSR have this code be enabled for a ghost town issue? Say like a one time use to player cities that request it. I can have a town meeting scheduled so that we can all agree that we want this change for the CSR.

ok Im a bit divided about this news..

first off, Im glad that its inactive because that means that my citizens dont have to fear being deleted if they go on vacation or are stationed somewhere for a bit.

secondly, it bothers me because my town has become a bit of a ghost town...I have at least 10 players who dont play anymore. While the numbers are wonderful (this means I get to keep my shuttleport) Id rather have no shuttleport then a town full of ghosts.

Im honestly not sure how I feel about this one way or another...If there was a way to delete houses of the inactives --the ones who really dont play anymore...without targeting the ones who are away for various reasons with every intent on coming back...*sigh* but Im sure thats not gonna happen aside from reimplimenting the 6 week rule.

I'm also a little disallusioned as I was told differently by CSR in that it WAS in effect.

Well, if its not in effect-what is?

All the 6 week of inactivity does is removes inactive players from the CITIZENSHIP list. It doesn't destroy their house or anything else.

It's a GREATway to make it more difficult for those who persists in buffing cities with cross server lot swapping.

The trade off for LEGIT cities and CITS is you may see a few cits leavethe citizenship list.

The occassional lossof a few citizensthe citizenship list because of inactivityshouldn't be detrimental to the state of the city. If a city just can have enough citizens playing - well - maybe it should join a city that does.

The success of a city is dependant upon it's mayor and it'scitizens.

Actually, the move had nothing to do with cross-server lot trading, unless that person on the other server went inactive. If the player was active, they could still just bop over to their cross-server trade area and maintain activity.

Non-cross-server players are just as likely to go inactive as cross-server players, so this removal of citizenship thing wasn't targetted at cross-server trades at all. Just at the inactive population in general. Unfortunately, it just caused more problems than it was worth, since the houses were still there, even after the player was long gone.

Although I can see your point, I'm gonna disagree slightly... You're right they COULD just bop over to their cross-server trade area and maintain activity. But, in reality, a lot of these cross-server trades either

a) Went inactive on their own server (and thus, wouldn't be bopping over anywhere)... Which I think covers the main point you're saying this was put in for.

b) Were too lazy to do this. For large groups of people who were organized by their mayors and/or guild leaders to pull this off, it was a sort of "one time" thing they were told they could do to help. And they did it. One time. Never to revisit that char ever again. For some reason, people would rather be playing their main chars on their main servers than wasting precious minutes logging into other servers once every few weeks.

c) Related to b, people either forgot or couldn't be bothered with keeping active on other servers because they did these trades on MANY servers. That would just exponentially increase the annoyance factor of having to log on with each of these chars on other servers.

There's a thread on this forum somewhere recounting actual numbers of lost citizens the day the 6-week inactivity thingy kicked in. It's interesting to see how many people claim to have lost simply "inactive" citizens versus server-swapped citizens.

Okay, now I'm just babbling.. can you tell I'm bored at work on the Friday before a holiday weekend?
