Thread: New City Structure Request Post Office

Thoughts on this? I think a city structure that allows for the offline trading of items between city characters is a great idea. Think of it this way... you special order an item from your city's armorsmith and bank tip him the money for it. You have to log off though to go to work while he is still making your armor. You get home, go to the post office and there is your item waiting for you!

Basically... you go into the structure and access a *box* with the citizens name on it, and you are allowed to deposit only. If you access your own box, you are allowed to *withdrawl* only. Maximum storage might be somthing very small, like 10 items (covers all armor) and that is it. There might also be a timer placed on stored items of say... 48 hours or so. If it doesn't get picked up... it is deleted.

Just an idea... but would like to know what everyone else thinks.

I think its a great idea, except for having the items deleted after 48 hours. Sometimes something comes up & you can't make it on, then thats a loss on both ends. The low item max is a good idea so not to make it laggy.

Great idea, saves creating collection vendors, and more secure.

Very nice idea. The 48 hour limit does seem much too low; perhaps something more inline with the durations on vendors would be better. In order to make this a more local city sort of thing, and to simplify drop box lookup, I would suggest linking the list it uses to the city's citizen list. That way you'd still have to travel to that city rather than simply drop the item(s) at whatever city you are at - as well as have a managable list to scroll through.

I like the idea as well. But I would like to say I am on Lok I order from a AS on Dant and I can go to my Declared Post Office and collect the items without traveling, much like you join a bank.

What would make it even better would have the PO be player city owned. But, the person dropping off an item would have to pay an assigned drop off fee, and possibly one to pick up as a buyer. Maybe a COD system where a certain percentage of the "sale" would end up in the city coffers as a processing fee. Just another way to make some creds for the treasury. You could make it like the shuttle/garage fees.

while I totally agree that something like this would be great to have, I suspect that this sort of facility probably won't appear in player cities for the same reasons as bazaar terminals.

perhaps, as an alternative, the bazaar terminal system could be adapted to serve this function? create the ability to post a "directed sale" on the bazaar -- only the named person could purchase the item, no limits on the price. as with the present operation of the bazaar, the item would be available for 'purchase' for 7 days, then if unsold the seller would have 30 days to reclaim it from the bazaar storeroom. since this is a 'directed sale', the system would need to send an email notification to the intended buyer as soon as the item is put into the system, letting them know the name of the item, the price and which city he'll need to go to.

however, Ifeel that this capability needs to be tied to Merchant (so should the vendor search, but that's a different story)though it's debatable where on the tree it should go -- is this a Master skill, a Novice skill or somewhere in between?

If you try and stay within the spirit of the idea presented by the original post, there really shouldn't be any prof tie-in here. In RL anyone can walk into their local post office and pay for service. It would seem that is a main part of the intended function here.

Sounds like a very good idea!! course 48 hours isnt much time.... should work like a vendor 30 days to pick it up.... if you cant make it on in 30 days for an item you already paid for then most likely you dont really want it anyways :0 )

Not a bad Idea, However, the storage limit and time limit would be a big issue for not only myself, but a lot of people. I hate the fact that we have Limited Space and storage as it is...Take out the limits and we'll all be happy...My point is this..If you have an item, say a "Closet" that you are able to place items in, than there should be NO limit on how much we can place in there...if no one else but you and or your spouse or friend is on the admin, it will not lag anyone else when you open it up. I say, give us UNlimited storage space, especially in our own Yachets...it doesn't lag someone that goes by me in space if I have a ship full of whatever I choose to place in there....I do like the Idea of a Postal Office very much, but Nex on the Limit restrictions...or, give us more Lots...lol.
