I am a new mayor or politician. I have a cityu on dantooine on the gorath server called River Phoenix. have had my own city for a couple weeks. Now Does anyone have any input on being a successful mayor or any tips for me at all. I have been reading the forums and have gotten some, but I feel liek i'm not a good mayor and is there anything I need to know to keep people in my city. Should i have events and what kind, or I'm not good at interacting with my fellow citizens, how can I take a better leadership role? Any input would be great! thanks.

I don't think I'm a great mayor, but if you want some tips, I have a few things I do that might help you as well

Getting to know your citizen helps Let them know that you're there for them if they need anything, or just a pair of ears. This especially helps if your city is not PA-affiliated, or if the city gets a lot of traffic. Make your visitors feel welcomed.

I haven't been doing as much of this lately, but you can inform your citizens of important changes/events via email by using "citizens" in the "to:" field.

If you have specific questions, feel free to ask

Be generous. Give away gifts. Provide individual attention. Go hunt with them; help them make credits and/or XP.

Taking a Leadership Role means you must be willing to take the reins and diplomatically steer your citizensto the City's general welfare.

It means trading off personal play time in exchange for managerial duties like placing houses, settling disputes, creating city events.

It means giving your citizens a reason for living and playing there... does your city cater to crafters only? Consider a vote for laying down a factional base to give your pvpers a reason to play in the city.

Do you have only pvpers whose majority of play time is spent away from the city? Create a Marketplace and advertise for crafters to take up residence while at the same time convince your pvpers that having built in suppliers in the city for armor, weapons, and other necessities will make their lives easier and less costly. Recruit them to recruit the crafters and offer them some kind of reward... maybe a fountain by their house or other item that only you can provide.

Get to work and do some city planning. Is your city a hodge podge of plopped down houses and other structures that make it hard to navigate? Do you have a city square where you can place your trainers for easy access to all? How convenient is the cloner and shuttleport for city defense? Do you have an area where large groups can congregate to socialize? Is the city laid out to encourage interaction between all the citizens? How about City Hall? Is it nicely decorated? How about running an event asking for the citizens to contribute unusual items to help decorate it. Build some 'plaques' and inscribe their names on it as contributers and make a 'Wall of Fame' in City Hall.

Hold a Fishing Contest that lasts for a week... reward the participation/winners with prizes.

How about the Cantina? Do you have entertainers there for buffing or just to provide some social activities? How about running a 'Battle of Bands' contest... go around to the more popular cantinas/cities on different planets, and advertise this fun night... post the activitiy on your server forum... Give away a FREE small house to the winning band to use as a 'motel room' and ask them to come play again.

How about a 'Home Decor' contest? or a vehicle Race? What about a parade? How about a faishion show in the theater?

You get the idea. As Mayor you have the ability to bring life to your city, enhance it, boost up activities, encourage more folks to live there and in general make a valuable contribution to the enjoyment of everyone's game play.

Make iffun for yourself, don't take yourself too seriously, and remember to keep a sense of humor.

Good luck!

I have no shame; I am totally willing to brag about what a great mayor I am. (Ask any of my citizens)

Here are some of the things I do:

I send out weekly emails to the entire city, informing them about developments and greeting new citizens.

I run a house decorating contest amongst my citizens. I find that if you offer them a nice prize and a statue in their honor to be placed prominently in the city, many people enjoy doing it.

I make sure everyone knows that I will place any trainer they want. I keep an extra slot open for this.

Write up a big city FAQ to answer common questions.

That's all I can think of right now.

To be Successful as a Mayor or as a Business person, you need to:

No City has it all right or will ever have it all right. So, look for something that needs improvement. Do this by talking to the citizens and town elders.

Recognize the needs of the city, community, and the citizens. Then look for a way to serve the people who voted for you by coming up with avision of what you want your city to become and then get consensus on that vision from a City Council based on input from the citizens.

Whetherimprovements are needed to facilitate easy access to businesses and vendors, or improving placement of trainers and mission terminals where it doesn't look too artificial, or improving the location of the shuttleport in connection with your business district. All of these are good choices for projects for the city.

But most of all remember what it is like to walk in the shoes of your citizens. One of the problems with current politicians in real life is that they lose their grounding, forget about who they were and the people they serve.

PS: Make sure to manage your budget. Watch you spending on decorations, trainers, terminals, etc. Because heavy taxation will drive new people away from your town quick. I know when I started out, 2000 credits a week for taxes would have buried me.

I hopesome part of these ramblings helped.

Even Star Wars movies dont like NGE....

Yoda: Twisted by the Dark Side, young SWG has become. The game we played, gone it is... Consumed by the NGE.
Mace Windu(us): The customers will decide SWG's fate.
Supreme Chancellor(Devs): I *am* the customers!
Tiggs wrote: NGE is here to stay.

"And so it is" said Bail Organa as he left.
So this is how liberty is crushed...... by the sound of Tiggs Paws.

I'll miss being a TK

I oppose the NGE and support Holocron Shug and Q-3p0's dream of the way SWG should be!

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, ?How can we do this and not make another EQ?? We didn?t want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we?ve created a system to make that happen."

Since I'm a Master Architect and now almost 3333 in the Politican Profession - my professions are pretty well booked for awhile.

My tips are:

1. Be active with all your citizens. My fist 30 minutes to an hour that I log in, I'm either talking or emailing with the citizens. Answering questions, crafting items or just saying "Hi" or whatever. They say, "hey, lets form a hunting group" and (most times)I drop everything and participate. City citizens seem to look or help, guidance, participation.

2. Actively recruiting. Player cities always seem to lose people as players come and go.Some playersstop playing altogether and some play infrequently. We're now 66 citizens and the more the better. Players who see their mayor actively recruiting and bringing in new citizens into their city feel confident that the city will besecured when players leave and thier city will not fall apart.

3. Add some city events.Typically, I find that we have about a dozen players who are alway on. Others, are doing the same thing I did when I first began playing. Either, doing faction missions, working on my profession or taking off in search of POI's or adventuring. A way to bring everybody together without it being a faction/PA specific event, so something that's fun. A speeder race, a group hunt or even a city scavenger hunt.....

4. Lastly, I don't ask questions of my citizens. If I see one in distress (financially or in need), I give. It's only a game afteralll. Lets help one another.
