Thread: This week in politics: 9/20/04
first thing's first... for those of you that are in beta, don't talk about beta outside of the beta forums, and don't ask someone else to talk about beta and break their NDA. if you do I'll get Texxie to kick your ass (or I'll do it myself if necessary...) this is a response to some of the posts I've seen on the tailor forum, as I've been watching Jessi's forum while she moves. you guys have been great about things like that so far, so this is just a reminder
nothing from the devs so far, although that isn't news for us
school's starting for me this week, so I might be even more quiet (if that's possible...) I've realized that this thread is turning into more of an "announcement board" for me, which is fine... nothing much going on in my city anyway. how about yours?
edit:aduh, forgot to change the date, whoops O.o

-- This week in Aurora -- September 20, 2004
General News:
Aurora is a great Rebel metropolis on Naboo. Though the planet is overrun with Imperially aligned players, Aurora remains a sanctuary for Rebel players with over 90% of our community aligned towards the Rebel cause. More and more of Aurora is joiing the fight every night. This effort has been lead by the BOTD Military Activity Council, the E-Den Council and other leaders from Aurora. The city's GCW activity has quieted down lately. This is a direct result of the Jedi grind occuring with the recent patch #10. Many of our finest GCW participants have left the war to seek out the path of the jedi.
Aurora is very pleased to welcome the New Order player association. The city looks forward to fun adventures and exciting parties with this group of nice people as they move in to Aurora and establish their own unique neighboorhood in our community. From PA hall to houses, gardens and street lamps the neighborhood of the New Order player association is taking shape. Welcome to Aurora friends!
Building an online community is a difficult thing to do, and to do it correctly is almost impossible. To help the community of Aurora grow to meet the demands of its citizens the city has surveyed those nice people that choose to call Aurora their online home. We use the results from these surveys to develop new events and ways to make our citizens enjoy their limited online time. Here is yet another peek at one aspect of why Aurora is a great community.
When we asked the players about their in-game experiences, particularly where they played most, they showed a definite change from the first to the second survey. In the first survey, 64% reported that they played in and around Aurora. That compares with only 26% from the 2nd survey which occured 4 months after the 1st. Most of the players that adventure on the advanced planets can be found on Dantoinne or LoK. 28% play on Endor or Dathomir, and only 8% play on Yavin.
We next looked at who had gone to the Corvette, the Geo Labs, the Tusken Fort and the Deathwatch Bunker. From the first to the second survey, we found that many more people had undertaken adventures to these points of interest (POI). 28% more citizens have now gone to the Corvette than in the first survey. Since the first survey the proportion of respondents reporting that they had been to the Geonosian Labs has increase to 42% from 40%. For the Tusken fort we found that 71% of our community has adventured at the fort. This has increased dramatically from the 44% in the first survey. Finally, we asked how many folks have gone to the new POI, the Deathwatch Bunker. Of those responding, 25% said they had gone on a hunt to this POI.

City Mall and Merchants:
Aurora is a zero sales tax city. This means lower prices on every item on the vendors in Aurora. Stop by and check out what the 20+ vendors are selling.
The Aurora mall offers high quality products, at low prices and is only a 1 minute ride from Moenia, or a quick shuttle trip through the Aurora Shuttle port. The vendors are restocked every few days and the city is seeing a steady stream of customers to our citizen's vendors. With such great vendors as Hadrian's Deeds and Furniture, Jor'Ran's Resources, Yabu's Droids, Yhaigs Clothing, a Omilossk's Medical Supplies, Ioan's Smuggler Supplies and all the numerous miscellaneous vendors, Aurora is able to offer high quality goods and products at low prices. The mall is on the western edge of town. Stop by and get that item you have been looking for!
The city of Aurora is ungoing a community redevelopment project, and the city's mall is one of the first things to be re-worked. Soon, Aurora will launch a new business district, open to all friendly people. This new district will include a new mall built within a cantina, a larger area for merchent tents and sufficient space for merchants to place small houses in which they can place their private shops.
City Finances:
With the new tax structure in place the city is earning approximately 50,000 credits per day. The city continues to remove gardens every week prior to the maintenance cycle. This reduces the maintenance costs by 250k. It is unfortunate that taxes are not sufficient to support the city with all its gardens in place. We hope to get more gardens sponsored and the new city plan is designed with this in mind.
The city has recently received a cash infusion from one of our more outstanding citizens, Gotar. His several hundred thousand credit donation is much apprecitated! Thanks to everyone that has dontated moneis to the city treasury. People like you help make this a great community.
City Governance:
The city re-development program has been launched. All citizens have been asked to work with the city council and its representatives to move their houses so that we can imporve the city's organization and provide better city services to our community. For those friends that are thinking about moving to Aurora, check out our website at SWGAurora.com (note no WWW). You will find information the city's business initiatives, finances, the various PA's living in town and the charter that serves as the foundation for the community.City Event Guide:
Finally, several guilds are continuing to run weekly hunts out of Aurora. BOTD and E-Den have standard hunting nights and all folks are welcome to join them. Check out the discussion groups at www.swgbotd.com and www.enforcers-guild.com for more information. If anyone in Aurora has an event they would like to advertise, please send an in-game email to Hadrian, Obeci or Yabu. That is about all that is happening this week in our great community.

Mos Alianza, Tatooine, Scylla
Very little to report from the campaign headquarters this week. Despite the dedication of some people to get citizens to vote, it looks like this election will be even more lackluster than last week. Though our guild recently did a purge, which forced some "inactive" members/citizens to "leave". It's like... being stuck between a rock and a hard place. I don't want too many people to leave, for fear of losing our rank 4 slot, but if enough people leave, I can get elected in...
The randomly placed moisture vaporators seem to be adding a great deal of atmosphere. I have some other ideas to help improve the overall tatooinian feel of the city, but, I don't want to reveal them until the time is ready.
