last week in politics

first thing's first... for those of you that are in beta, don't talk about beta outside of the beta forums, and don't ask someone else to talk about beta and break their NDA. if you do I'll get Texxie to kick your ass (or I'll do it myself if necessary...) this is a response to some of the posts I've seen on the tailor forum, as I've been watching Jessi's forum while she moves. you guys have been great about things like that so far, so this is just a reminder

nothing from the devs so far, although that isn't news for us I hate bumping threads, as most of you guys know... and restarting the threads over and over makes me feel like I'm whining. I'm gonna ask for you guy's help: please bump up the priority of our top priority bugs by asking anyone who's affected by the bugs, such as citizens or folks who visit your city often. things that are bugs are sales tax, ability to shuttle in/out while citybanned, etc... not "issues" like resignation and addition of cool stuff. the more people report them, the higher chance we have to get them fixed.

school's starting for me this week, so I might be even more quiet (if that's possible...) I've realized that this thread is turning into more of an "announcement board" for me, which is fine... nothing much going on in my city anyway. how about yours?

edit:aduh, forgot to change the date, whoops O.o

Galatorbria is busy as busy can be on Rori. We had a server event Saturday, where yours truly was placed on trial by our servers Imp RP'ers. The accusation? Killing Townspeople. I got off with a slap on the wrist and got to keep my office as Mayor of Rori's only Imperial city.

I tried this morning to take a gods-eye shot of our city for our website, but with area maxed and riding a swoop it still wasnt high enough to capture the taller buildings. Any suggestions or tools out there for us prideful mayors?

Dear Pappi:

Rauha, Naboo (Starsider)

Well, we're slowly climbing in citizenry from the recent disappearances of various houses due to our property taxes. Apparently for about 5 people that was the last straw on their houses' maint, and they poofed over the course of the past week. But, I'm happy to say all 5 of those people have been replaced by new citizens, and there is the possibility of more in the near future.

We have been getting a lot of compliments on our city layout and our willingness to decorate heavily. We are at our garden and streetlamp/statue/fountain limits now, and we just need our cantina and Visitor Center set up and running smoothly for our city to be fully socially functional again. Unfortunately, our main entertainer, Latuya, seems to be AWOL, and thus our famous club Club Supern0va may be disappearing sometime soon during the purge. So, we will have to figure out something else for that then.

As far as everything else goes, life in Rauha is pretty good. Some of the new citizens are crafters that overlap existing professions in the city, so we'll have to see how it goes with the competition.

We're hoping to reach Rank 5, though I don't know if we can. We were Rank 5 before, and I never counted the number of other cities that were Rank 5 at the time, but I coulda sworn the Rank 5 cap didn't hold for us that time. Perhaps it doesn't work? In which case...yay, more decorations

-- This week in Aurora -- September 20, 2004

General News:

Aurora is a great Rebel metropolis on Naboo. Though the planet is overrun with Imperially aligned players, Aurora remains a sanctuary for Rebel players with over 90% of our community aligned towards the Rebel cause. More and more of Aurora is joiing the fight every night. This effort has been lead by the BOTD Military Activity Council, the E-Den Council and other leaders from Aurora. The city's GCW activity has quieted down lately. This is a direct result of the Jedi grind occuring with the recent patch #10. Many of our finest GCW participants have left the war to seek out the path of the jedi.

Aurora is very pleased to welcome the New Order player association. The city looks forward to fun adventures and exciting parties with this group of nice people as they move in to Aurora and establish their own unique neighboorhood in our community. From PA hall to houses, gardens and street lamps the neighborhood of the New Order player association is taking shape. Welcome to Aurora friends!

Building an online community is a difficult thing to do, and to do it correctly is almost impossible. To help the community of Aurora grow to meet the demands of its citizens the city has surveyed those nice people that choose to call Aurora their online home. We use the results from these surveys to develop new events and ways to make our citizens enjoy their limited online time. Here is yet another peek at one aspect of why Aurora is a great community.

When we asked the players about their in-game experiences, particularly where they played most, they showed a definite change from the first to the second survey. In the first survey, 64% reported that they played in and around Aurora. That compares with only 26% from the 2nd survey which occured 4 months after the 1st. Most of the players that adventure on the advanced planets can be found on Dantoinne or LoK. 28% play on Endor or Dathomir, and only 8% play on Yavin.

We next looked at who had gone to the Corvette, the Geo Labs, the Tusken Fort and the Deathwatch Bunker. From the first to the second survey, we found that many more people had undertaken adventures to these points of interest (POI). 28% more citizens have now gone to the Corvette than in the first survey. Since the first survey the proportion of respondents reporting that they had been to the Geonosian Labs has increase to 42% from 40%. For the Tusken fort we found that 71% of our community has adventured at the fort. This has increased dramatically from the 44% in the first survey. Finally, we asked how many folks have gone to the new POI, the Deathwatch Bunker. Of those responding, 25% said they had gone on a hunt to this POI.

City Mall and Merchants:

Aurora is a zero sales tax city. This means lower prices on every item on the vendors in Aurora. Stop by and check out what the 20+ vendors are selling.

The Aurora mall offers high quality products, at low prices and is only a 1 minute ride from Moenia, or a quick shuttle trip through the Aurora Shuttle port. The vendors are restocked every few days and the city is seeing a steady stream of customers to our citizen's vendors. With such great vendors as Hadrian's Deeds and Furniture, Jor'Ran's Resources, Yabu's Droids, Yhaigs Clothing, a Omilossk's Medical Supplies, Ioan's Smuggler Supplies and all the numerous miscellaneous vendors, Aurora is able to offer high quality goods and products at low prices. The mall is on the western edge of town. Stop by and get that item you have been looking for!

The city of Aurora is ungoing a community redevelopment project, and the city's mall is one of the first things to be re-worked. Soon, Aurora will launch a new business district, open to all friendly people. This new district will include a new mall built within a cantina, a larger area for merchent tents and sufficient space for merchants to place small houses in which they can place their private shops.

City Finances:

With the new tax structure in place the city is earning approximately 50,000 credits per day. The city continues to remove gardens every week prior to the maintenance cycle. This reduces the maintenance costs by 250k. It is unfortunate that taxes are not sufficient to support the city with all its gardens in place. We hope to get more gardens sponsored and the new city plan is designed with this in mind.

The city has recently received a cash infusion from one of our more outstanding citizens, Gotar. His several hundred thousand credit donation is much apprecitated! Thanks to everyone that has dontated moneis to the city treasury. People like you help make this a great community.

City Governance:

The city re-development program has been launched. All citizens have been asked to work with the city council and its representatives to move their houses so that we can imporve the city's organization and provide better city services to our community. For those friends that are thinking about moving to Aurora, check out our website at SWGAurora.com (note no WWW). You will find information the city's business initiatives, finances, the various PA's living in town and the charter that serves as the foundation for the community.

City Event Guide:

Finally, several guilds are continuing to run weekly hunts out of Aurora. BOTD and E-Den have standard hunting nights and all folks are welcome to join them. Check out the discussion groups at www.swgbotd.com and www.enforcers-guild.com for more information. If anyone in Aurora has an event they would like to advertise, please send an in-game email to Hadrian, Obeci or Yabu.

That is about all that is happening this week in our great community.

I've been having exactly the same problem on Starsider -- my second character has been mayor for a couple months now, and the "citizens" email has not once worked for me -- 3 CSR tickets on it, and still broken

Antaria Naboo just recruited two new merchants, Yabu and Maako. Yabu is an awesome DE from Aurora and Maako is an awesome bio engineer specializing in Tissues and nutrients, he is also a smuggler. We still have some awesome merchants in the mall, tents and medium houses surrounding the Shuttle. Come on by Antaria for a spectacular day of shopping!

The city of Mirage, LOK on Eclipse has reached the required number of citizens to grow to lvl 2 in about 3 hours! *cheers*

We've decided to become a completely neutral city, so all are welcome now in both city and guild.

we're going to be an entertainment district, despite the fact that it wont actually help the BUFFS of an entertainer =(

Since I've never posted here, I'll tell you a little about our city.

Obsidia, Talus, Kettemoor

We have just become a Level 4 city, and now have a shuttle. Obsidia is now home to 3 guilds. Obsidian Outcasts (OO) is the main guild, then Aurora Borealis (-AB-), spelling, joined us shortly after we moved from Tatooine to Talus. Just this week, -TC- moved in, forgive me I don't know their full name.

But thanks to -TC-, they finally pushed us over the required 55 residents to grow.

We are an imperial city with a few bases, that we enjoy defending. We have a wonderful mall with many vendors and also a satellite mall on Corellia.

When creating the city I took a lot of flack, because many people wanted the city to have some organization to it. Well as mayor, I placed almost every house, besides the larges. Some complained that I was being too controlling, but now everyone appreciates the wonderful layout we have. We have streets and order, and all out city structures are in our "courtyard". I will try to get a map posted up sometime.

I've implemented a City Council. It consists of the 3 guild leaders, a rep from each guild and myself. Basically this is to help take care of the city and make city decisions, on such topics as taxes, bases, and growth. No meeting yet, but we will be having one soon. It will also be a formal introduction of the guilds.

Well I think that about covers Obsidia!

New week already? hm.

Mos Alianza, Tatooine, Scylla

Very little to report from the campaign headquarters this week. Despite the dedication of some people to get citizens to vote, it looks like this election will be even more lackluster than last week. Though our guild recently did a purge, which forced some "inactive" members/citizens to "leave". It's like... being stuck between a rock and a hard place. I don't want too many people to leave, for fear of losing our rank 4 slot, but if enough people leave, I can get elected in...

The randomly placed moisture vaporators seem to be adding a great deal of atmosphere. I have some other ideas to help improve the overall tatooinian feel of the city, but, I don't want to reveal them until the time is ready.
