Thread: Thunderheart, do we have to grief....
to protect player cities? (repost from general dev forum. Wasnt sure if this was a general issue, a city issue, or a gcw issue)
I wish I had some level of sarcasm associated with this post, but I am quite serious. The problem? Well, some cities are "factional cities". My city in particular, on Lok, is an Imperial stronghold. In addition to a booming city with 82 residents and 157 buildings, we host a complex of seven factional bases laid out for overlapping fields of fire. One of the advantages of the location is that its a 9k run from Nyms, forcing the rebels to really organize for an attack.
Enter cloning centers and shuttles. Now we have a problem. We will be building our shuttle on Friday, and already have a cloning center. This is great news for us, as our citizens have been patiently making 9k runs for months now, and a shuttle looks great However, having a shuttle means that a mass of rebels can simply fly down to our city, clone in our cloning center and basically use our own facilities against us in battle! Can we ban them? Kinda. The banning system only works on an individual basis, which means we can only ban after the fact and if they have already cloned, they will keep popping up in our clone center even if banned.
So our little city is left with a few options:
1. Leave our city insecure with covert and overt rebels shuttling in and cloning at will.
2. Stop them from the above.
How do we stop them?
Well, if we place the shuttle and cloning centers first, we can pop down forward outposts close enough that the covert scanners can actually cover the entry areas to both facilities. Between this, and the bases turrets, minefields and support personnel, any rebel, covert or otherwise, that tries to shuttle in is dead on arrival. In addition, rebels wont be able to get to our cloning center, even if we arent around.
The problem? Imagine a few rebels shuttle to our city. They die instantly, but hadnt cloned at Nyms. Now they are in OUR cloning center (its their only option). Every time they try to leave our defenses mow them down. The are, quite literally, trapped. Even if they consented us and we pulled them away from the center, it would likely be too late to rev them and they would still only have an option of cloning in our city.
We've gone over and over this problem and there is simply no way to protect our facilities, cloning in particular, without "griefing" rebels who get to close to our city.
What do we need? What we have always needed. A way to globably ban/warn based on faction. Banning should eliminate our cloning center as any option upon death, forcing rebels who die near it to respawn at some other cloning center and not ours. Without this kind of tool, we are going to have some very very very unhappy rebels in the fair city of Haven.
Just a plug for the city, we are at -330 -3300 on Lok on Naritus. I encourage you to check it out. Quite the city, and our second set of faction bases will be going up soon.
I hope that the devs can reply to this in some meaningful way. We dont want to leave our cities resources open to the rebels, but we dont want to grief either.
Man welcome to grieferville...sorry if you want your little kingdom to remain closed to the masses...and that little advertisement to come down and see it was real nice after plastering that you want to waste anyone who is not of your ilk...
well think about it.. he does have a point... if the are has only one cloning center.. then what??
by not protecting your city from invasion makes you an unfit mayor also. They are a stronghold (city ability) and thus treating as such.. any neutral and imperial can enter
but rebels right now can enter (with current system) but if they ever decide to attack the faction base... they will never get to leave... (with current system)
when with the patch changes (declared becomes covert when travelling and logging) with detectors.. they are still dead meat..
Again, the problem is this mayor doesnt want a player city, they want a personal kingdom.
They are free to try, but I certainly wouldnt change any rules to stupport personal kingdoms.

Actually, Dayln, I know this guy. He doesn't want a personal kingdom. He just wants no rebels.

like I said before.. neutrals and imperials can still enter the city.. it is not a private kingdom (if it was. then no one are allow unless they are citizen or invited)
He is roleplaying a true imperial following the Emperor's mandate.. erradicate all rebels...
I'm sure the Emperer wouldn't want rebels using his cloning facilities ![]()
Actually the emperor wouldn't want cloning facilities to begin with. Technically, it is outlawed.

really?? now I'm confuse The emperor was the first to use cloning to create the army
(army of the republic)
I think the "free world" outlaw cloning.. ah well.. I should read more books instead of watching the movies.
We are indeed RPing an Imperial Stronghold, and have already had some significant battles over our faction base complex (ie estimated 80-120 rebels with pets hit us a few months ago, but we were beaten back). The city has been on Lok for months now and is by no means going to wither away. However our citizens would like to have shuttle/cloning services. We want to provide those services but we dont want them turned against us by rebel scum. At our current location, it takes an enourmous amount of rebel effort to even put a dent in our defenses. However with the availability of a shuttle, its just a little too convenient for rebels to pop in on us at will.
Haven is an Imperial city, and we openly admit any of imperial faction or proven neutrality (ie they have to take a covert detector test
). We will not tolerate rebels of any kind. In my mind we are completely justified in defending against rebel intruders.
Lets not start this area as a “you should not make it a private city” or you’re a faction griefer”. This is a legitimate problem that all sides face and truly if one or the other side built a city then its there’s to make into a “personal kingdom” if they want. If it was not intended this way then why let the players build it in the first place.
We need more control over out cities “our” being the option word. Flame me if you wish but I don’t recall you (who feel this way) giving our citizens any help in building our city. It was made out of our own blood sweat and tears.
