Well IMO no.

Basically the devs envisioned dedicated politicians who would campaign for mayor ships, and such. However as many of you all know this 9is simply not the case as once a mayor is elected is darn near impossible to oust him. The result bing that no one wants to sacrafice SP and/or drop skills for a profession that offers no real benefits.

THink why are we limited in SP? TO keep any one person from being completely self sufficient. However in the case of Politicain this is not the case as a politician achieves no personal gain and is overall unfun.

IMHO we would have a more dynamic political structure if anyone could be a politician without the use of SP

/agreed

with the addition of pilots in JTL, they are proving they can have professions without SP's.

This should have been talked about long ago/

Politican should NOT cost skill points. Currently, theres only one mayor and he/she gets elected and stays elected through force/coersion. No body even runs against the mayor because politicans are so few and far between anyway. And besides the incumbent mayor could always city ban the challanging mayor and make things miserable. This leads to the problem of "dictorial mayors" taking office and than quitting the game leaving the poor metropolis to crumble away with no way of leadership. You cant even oust inactive mayors it is ridiculouse. Why would someone waste skill points on mayor anyhow when they could let some other hologrinder do it and become a rich armorsmith or bounty hunter? Besides, in real life poltics is not"learn at a school" profession, hell, one look at BIll Clinton tells me any bimbo can be a politican. Just takes a bit of lying and some trustworthy advisors, why don't we mimic this in SWG? Not like the Galactic Empire allows free elections or anything like that but that isnt important considering this is Star Wars.

No. I'm sure most of us have stripped our poli tree to salvage some points. Once your city has it's basic arrangement, you hardly need the skill at all.

I'd rather have politician xp spent like faction points. 500xp to place a garden, 5000xp to place a shuttle, 100xp to place a trainer, 2500-5000xp for a specialization. Poli xp means nothing after you get to a certain level (which most of us are at).

So here comes the unpopular post...

I like it simply becuase is does keep every Tom, **edit** and Harry from trying to do things there own way. But then that isn't very political and fair is it? But again I am an Imperial Colonel...hehe

about time I come in here and cause some chaos

I agree that politicians should cost *less* skillpoints, but I don't agree that it should cost *no* skillpoints.

Greenmarine did say at the fanfest that they're looking into reducing our skill point requirements, perhaps by making our trees pyramid-shaped. I have no clue how that works, but I guess we'll see

Pappi why should politician cost SP? The hallmark of a democracy is the supposedly anyone can be elected provided they get the votes. However I am the only mayor I know of on CHilastra(I have not really asked around) who has been beaten(I was the first on for our town on patch day) and then re-elected after our mayor decided to quit. I would love to have competition, but very few people are willing to give up the sp to get politician and if they do they will get frustrated at the election process. We need to encourage people to run against us as most politicians have very little to do with politics.

Marco why should politician not cost SP? Now don't get me wrong I am very much in agreement that it should cost very little skill (how about 1 point per box PappI? Eh, eh?) but giving it away for free just doesn't sit well with me and frankly doesn't seem to do anything but give us mayors an extra profession we can master/dabble in.

Right now the only thing that truly hinders a mayor's replacement is apathy and differing play times of a large percentage of citizens, not the skill point requirement. Having politician be free would not change this so your dynamic environment where incumbents change every other month at least would not be achieved by this. All this would do is give us a lot more skill points. Well the devs have already said they are going to lower our requirements so that's what we are getting, just not as much as you all would like.

The mayor should get 10% of the totall revenue for the week. Then it would be a real proffession.

lets make it the base 15 SP for a beginning profession... and then may the exp work like FP... simple enough for me... simple enough for you?

While I agree that 'less' would be better (and easy to code so most likely the change we'll get),it doesn't change the essential problem.

We are still spending skillpoints on boxes which we use 1 time (maybe a couple times at most). How many times do you place a bank? shuttle? cloning? specialization?

There is no motivation to keep the skill boxes. Even if they cost less skill points, I will still drop down to basically 0120.The only skill I use on a regular basis is 'recruit trainer', so that is the only box I keep. If I need to do something else, I train up, place it, drop down (too bad it comes at the cost of dropping master pistol or one of my other hard to recover skills).

Spending poli xp like faction points would do a variety of things.Give us something to do with xp after we're established, and let us have competitive templates (mayors are people too! Ever seen a master bounty hunter/ master mayor? Why shouldn't that be possible?)

I know this is just a pipe dream and any change to the profession is in a galaxy far far away, but I can dream.

Politician is also the only profession that has zero advantages for the person with said skills. People do not take politican for their own benefit but for that of their town.
