Thread: Cities with Faction Bases, Walls, Mazes & Dead Ends

I have seen some faction aligned cities built with a faction base inside them & with player houses lined up as walls, mazes and dead ends to deter enemy attacks. I have had other players tell me that there have been CSR complaints filed on cities that did this & that these type of player city designs were dismantled & deemed "exploitive" or "unfair".

Does anyone know of this actually happening or what the official stance is on structures in cities being places strategically to protect faction bases or turrets?

I've seen people use houses for walls. Never seen mazes or dead ends though. Kind of dumb since you can just memorize the setup.

We had some complainers with our cloning center because we placed a HQ with Dish turretsfacing thefront of the door. We had a CSR visit and he said as long asa person with common sence can leave your city, the setup is fine.

Well from my experience it doesnt matter if you have houses there or not, the players can fire through the walls. We have attacks all the time and they are able to shoot through the walls. Not all the time, but enough to be annoying.

They can't just tell you to move those 30 homes because little Jimmy herewants to walk straight through to your basecan they? I plan on having a mini racetrack as my city layout which would involve a good number of wall homes so this does somewhat affect me. Well just make sure you have a small alley that leads back to the entrance I guess and all will be well.

Well, if a person is on a speeder and starts out 1000m away from the "wall", the person might be able to get though it before it renders on his screen.

I don't see why there should be any kind of a problem with this... however a quick fix which I think everyone would think is pretty cool would be to actually have the ability to build actual walls for defensive purposes, however, these wallswould also be able to be destroyed... It would be similar to what was on the battlefields before they went offline for updating... If a city wants to close its walls to visitors, they have that right... However, those being blocked out should also be able to fight their way through... It could set up some pretty cool pvp battles and such... I'd also suggest the walls needing to be 2 or 3 meters beyond the city border, just to even things out a bit so militia members in the stronghold don't just have a picnic with the invading troops. Walls would also require maintenance (not alot) and the possibilities are endless... this would add in a use for shield generators, etc... turrets could be built into walls, there could be gates etc... the possibilities are endless, and I'd imagine the code not being very difficult considering this is all stuff that's already been in the game in battlefields... I'll stop here... laters

Noobian mediums and Corellian/Generics can be butted together to form a "wall" so no it can happen anywhere. If you do it properly it can make your town look like a real burb instead of just a grid-like collection of houses.

The preventative way that it blocks people out of areas is somewhat griefing but a simple solution would be to require 1 of the mediums getting replaced with a small or 2 with a large so you have an alleyway to get by. That is what a CSR should do rather then force large numbers of people to move if the original post is true.

Oh no, walk through minefields to attack a military installation! How preposterous!

No, it's either walk through a minefield setting off a TEF to get there or walk through a wall of homes. If you made streets out of mediums that is all well and fine since you aren't walling people out just making order. However if you are forcing people to enter a place by walking through this and jumping through these hoops just to make sure you're dead before you can make it through, however, is griefing. And I don't know about you but most army bases I've seen have paved roads heading to them so yes lining a road next to a nursery and orphaned baby puppy home with landmines is a little preposterous. However a CSR complimented it so whatever. Do as you will but personally I feel that the grief wall is stupid, meanwhile the lookperty wall is quite nice.

Thank you for all of the interesting replies. I wish we'd get an official response but I didn't really expect one here. I'm not sure I'd call the use of houses to make walls "griefing" since it's not an action you're performing against a player. I think the term "griefing" is much overused & loses it's true meaning & impact because of that. But anyway, still it's interesting that it sounds like on one server a CSR will call it an exploit & make sure things are rearranged & on another server they players will be complimented. lol

Of course it would be nice, however developers and TH more or less never post so why would you expect one? The wall "grief" has existed for a long time on my server with a rebel town on Naboo walling in a few bases and CSR's complimented the town on it's appearance (far too symmetrical for my tastes) even though you had to walk through minefields or a building in order to stage a raid.
